10 3 At a glance Controls Car care Repairs Technical Data Index ABS enhances active safet y b y helping to pr ev ent the wheels from locking under braking . When the fr ont wheels slide, the driver loses steering control ov er the vehicle . T raction loss at the rear wheels can cause the r ear end to break int o uncontrolled o ver steer .
10 4 Disc brakes furnish optimum decelera- tion and braking control as well as greater fade resistance under heavy use. Limited vehicle use, extended periods with the car parked or in storage and light loading will increase the tendency for corrosion to form on the rotors, and dirt to accumulate on the pads.
10 5 At a glance Controls Car care Repairs Technical Data Index Failure of one brake circuit Pedal travel increases, more pressure is required at the pedal. The remaining circuit continues to pro- vide good braking response. a In the event of any malfunction in the brake system, consult the nearest BMW Retailer as soon as possible.

10 7 At a glance Controls Car care Repairs Technical Data Index A special luggage system is available as an option for your BMW. Please observe the precautions included with the installation instructions. Because roof racks raise the center of gravity of the car when loaded, they exercise a major effect on its handling and steering response.

Any BMW Service station will gladly provide information on the purpose of technical modifications to the car, the legal position and the manufacturer's recommendations.
111 At a glance Controls Car care Repairs Technical Data Index Information for your safety The factory-approved radial tires have been selected to provide optimum safety and driving comfort on your vehi- cle. In a very real sense, both tire life and your own safety are riding on correct tire specifications and inflation pres- sures.
11 2 To maintain good handling and vehicle response, use only tires of a single tread configuration from a single manu- facturer. a Do not use retreaded tires, as oth- erwise driving safety may be impaired.
11 3 At a glance Controls Car care Repairs Technical Data Index Tires and wheels Use only BMW-approved tires. Due to the high speeds which this vehi- cle can reach, the use of specific brands, specifications and dimensions is mandatory. Consult any BMW Retailer for details.

Although all-sea- son M+S tires pr ovide better winter traction than st andard summer tires with H , V , W and ZR speed r atings, they generall y fail to pr ovide the same lev els of performance as standard snow tires in winter driving.
