SAFETY NOTE: Overtoasting of thinly sliced breads, reduced fat diet breads, and packaged greasy toaster foods could cause them to catch on fire. T oast thin, diet light, or greasy slices only in lower settings of the T oast Color Control; for packaged toaster foods, follow toasting instructions provided by their manufacturers.
■ Do not install the T oaster directly in front of an electrical outlet, but be sure it is mounted within reach of an electrical outlet. ■ The T oaster is designed to be mounted directly next to any other Spacemaker* Optima TM product, with a clearance of at least 1 ” between the two products.
INST ALLING YOUR HORIZONT AL TOASTER T ools you will need for installation: • Drill and 1/4 ” drill bit • Phillips screwdriver • Hammer/Nail to start a drill hole • Adhesive tape • Eye Protection Goggles • Newspaper to cover counter tops (optional) First, determine if your cabinet has a flush bottom or overhang bottom.
remove the Mounting T emplate. (Figure C) 4. Cover the counter top to catch drilled wood chips. CAUTION: Suitable eye protection is recommended to prevent injury from shavings while using a drill. 5. Make a small starter hole by hammering a nail or using a smaller drill bit.
8. Press the Bracket inward and forward toward the front of the cabinet until it stops. T ighten the screw/nut assem- bly with a screwdriver until the Bracket just touches the bottom of the cabinet. (Figure G) The Bracket should move freely front to rear in the slot to fine tune the fit of the T oaster to the cabinet front.
MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR CABINET WITH OVERHANG If your cabinet has an overhang — a lip extending below the bottom of the cabinet shelf — follow these simple mounting instructions. 1. Empty your cabinet of its contents before starting to drill. Clean the underside of the cabinet to remove any grease or other residue.

11 6. Make a small starter hole by hammering a nail or using a smaller drill bit. Holding the drill straight and vertical at the hole marks, center and drill up through the bottom of the cabinet. (Figure K) 7. Insert a plastic washer on each screw with the flat side of the washer resting on the cabinet bottom.
8. If you determined you need Spacer Bars (See Step # 2, page 9), place the Spacer Bars on top of each Bracket so that the 2 small tabs on the bars fit into the notches on the Brackets. Slide the Mounting Bracket and Spacer Bars above the nuts through the U-shaped openings on the Bracket.
11. Drape the Cord toward an electrical outlet and use the Cord Hook to hold the Cord out of the way . Peel the paper off the adhesive back of the Cord Hook. For the most attractive appearance, place the Cord Hook at the back edge of the cabinet (on or next to the wall) over the outlet to be used.

15 Questions on Using the Horizontal T oaster 1. Can I toast thick slices of homemade breads ? Y es, as long as the slices don ’ t go over the MAX FILL LINE. Y ou can see the words MAX FILL LINE and the line when you pull open the door . It is not recommended to put foods in the toaster that exceed the MAX line.
16 3. Pull the handle down until the door is fully opened and latched. The Slide-Out Rack will come forward. Place the slices of bread or toaster foods on the Rack.
17 NOTE: Always unplug the cord from the electrical outlet and allow the T oaster to cool before cleaning. DO NOT IMMERSE TOASTER IN WA TER 1. The See-Through Glass Door should be cleaned with a damp, sudsy cloth. Dry thoroughly before using the T oaster .
NOTE: The Pull-Down Crumb T ray can be extremely hot. Allow it to cool completely before cleaning. 3. Check and clean the Pull- Down Crumb T ray often. (Figure R) Immediately wipe away any food crumbs or spills from fillings or toppings before next use.
The cord length of this Horizontal T oaster was selected to reduce safety hazards that may occur with a longer cord. If more cord length is needed, an extension cord may be used. It should be rated not less than 10 amperes, 120 volts, and should have Underwriters Laboratories listing.
Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc. warrants this product against any defects that are due to faulty material or workmanship for a two-year period after the original date of consumer purchase or receipt as a gift. This warranty does not include damage to the product resulting from accident or misuse.
