English- 17 CONTROLS 1. Motion Control Levers The mach ine’s speed and dire ction are contin uously var iable using t he two s teering contro ls. The steeri ng controls can be moved forwar d or backwar d about a n eutral posi tion. Furth ermore, the re is a neutral p osition, which i s locked if the stee ring contr ols are moved outwar d.
English- 18 CONTROLS 2. Hour Meter The ho ur meter di splays the total oper ating time. It will flash CHG O IL (Change Oil) at 50 ho ur interval s. The f lash durati on is one ho ur before and one hou r after the inter val. The CHG OIL icon will co me on a nd shut off automati cally .
English- 19 CONTROLS 5. Blade switc h In orde r to engag e the mower de ck, pull the knob ou t; the mower blades are diseng aged when the k nob is depr essed. 6. Ignition Switch The ig nition k ey is pl aced on t he driver ’s panel and i s used to start and stop t he engine.

Throttle Control The thr ottle co ntrol r egulates the engine speed a nd thereb y the rat e of rotation of the blades , assuming the bla de switch is pull ed out, see Engagi ng the Mow er Deck. In orde r to inc rease or d ecrease the en gine speed, the contr ol is moved downward or upwa rd r e spe ctively .

Pum p rele ase val ves Pump r elease val ves are loca ted at th e pump s. They a re used t o releas e the syste m so the mach ine may be move d by hand when not ru nning.
English- 24 OPERATION Operation Read "S afety I nstruct ions" sec tion and fo llowin g pages, if you a re unfami liar with t he mac hine. T raining Zero tur n mowers ar e far mo re maneuver able than typical r iding mower s due to th eir unique steering capabili ties.
English- 25 OPERATION Roll bar and safety belt Opera te the unit with the roll ba r in the rai sed and loc ked positi on and use the seat b elt. There i s no rollover protectio n when t he roll bar is down. If it is necessary to low er roll bar , do not wea r the se at belt.

English- 27 OPERATION 7. If the en gine is cold, the choke c ontrol should b e pulled o ut to its e xtents. 8. Open the fuel v alve for the sele cted fuel tank.

English- 29 OPERATION T o start an engin e wit h a wea k battery If your battery is too weak to start the engine, it shou ld be recha rged. (See “Batter y" in the “Main tenance" se ction).
English- 30 OPERATION Running 1. Release the parking bra ke by mov ing the leve r forwar d. Y our mow er is equipped w ith a n operator presence system. When the e ngine is running , any attem pt by the o perator to leave th e seat with out first s etting the park brake will shut off the eng ine.
English- 31 OPERATION In order , f or example , to turn rig ht while moving fo rward, mov e the right c ontrol towards the neutr al positi on. The r otation of the rig ht wheel is red uced and the machine turns to the right.
English- 32 OPERATION Mowing Tip s • Observe and flag r ocks and o ther fixed objects to avoi d collision s. • Begin wit h a hig h cutting hei ght and reduce it u ntil the de sired m owing resul t is attain ed. The average lawn should be cut to 2 1/2" (64 mm) during the c ool seaso n and over 3" (76 m m) during the hot mont hs.
English- 33 OPERATION Stopping the Engine Allow t he engine to idle a m inute in or der to attain norm al operatin g tempera ture before stoppi ng it, if it has been work ed hard. Avoid idling the engin e for longer periods, a s there is a ris k of the spark pl ugs fouli ng.
English- 34 OPERATION Moving by Hand In orde r for the mac hine to b e moved wi th the engine turned off, the v ent screws on both hy draulic pumps mus t be opened 1/4-1/2 tu rn.
English- 35 MAINTENANCE Maintenance Maintenance Schedule The fol lowing is a li st of mainten ance proced ures that mus t be performed on the machi ne.

When ope rating w ith a heav y load or at high am bient tem peratu res, re plac e every 50 hours. 2) In dusty condition s, cleaning and r epla cement ar e requi red mo re oft en. 3) For daily use, the machine should be lubricated twice weekly .
English- 37 MAINTENANCE Battery Y our mow er is eq uipped wit h a mainte nance free ba ttery and doe s not need servici ng. However , peri odic chargi ng of the battery with an autom otive typ e battery charger w ill extend its life. • Keep batte ry and te rminals c lean.

English- 41 MAINTENANCE Checking the Engine's Cooling Air Intake Check that the engi ne’s cooling a ir intake is free fr om leave s, grass, and dirt. If the cooling air intake is clogged , engin e cooli ng deterior ates, whic h can le ad to engine dam age.
English- 42 MAINTENANCE Air filter maint enance If the eng ine seem s weak or runs unev enly , the air fil ter may be clogged . If running with a dirty air filter , the spark plug s can become fouled.
English- 43 MAINTENANCE Filter r eplacement 1. R emove th e end cover . 2. Remove the main filter (out er filter) by pulling it out by h and. 3. Remove the inn er fil ter by pul ling i t out by hand. 4. Clean ins ide of the filter hous ing. Wip e dry only .
English- 44 MAINTENANCE Replacing the Fuel Fil ter Replac e the line -mounted f uel filter e very 100 hour s (once p er season) or more o ften if it beco mes clo gged. Replac e the filte r as follows: 1. M ove the ho se clamp s away fr om the filter .

English- 46 MAINTENANCE Pump belt Check belt ever y 100 hou rs for ex cessive wear . T o r eplace bel t. Reliev e tension on the deck belt and remove deck belt fr om clutch. See “Deck be lt” on page 45 . Loosen b olt on the clutch ti e down and rotate o ut of the way .
English- 47 MAINTENANCE Blade r eplacement : • Remove blade bol t by turnin g counte rclockwise . • Install new or re- sharpened blade with stamped "GR ASS SIDE " facing tow ards ground/gras s (down) or “THIS SIDE UP ” facing de ck and c utter housi ng.
English- 48 MAINTENANCE Adjusting th e Mower Dec k Leveling 1. P osition the mowe r on a level, pr eferab ly concre te, surfa ce. 2. Check the pressu re in all f our tire s. See “T echn ical Data” o n page 65. 3. Rotate blades to align fr ont to bac k.
English- 49 MAINTENANCE T o adjust anti-scalp rollers Anti-sc alp rollers are properl y adjusted when they ar e just slight ly off of the gr ound when the d eck is at t he desired cutting he ight in th e operati ng posit ion. A nti-scalp rollers then keep th e deck i n the proper positio n to help prev ent scal ping i n most te rrai n condit ions.
English- 50 MAINTENANCE Cleaning and W ashing Regular cleaning a nd washin g, espec ially under t he mower dec k, will incr ease the machin e’s lifespan. Ma ke it a ha bit to clean the m achine di rectly after use (after it is cooled ), befor e the dirt sticks .
English- 51 LUBRICATION Lubrication Lubrication Schedule General Remove the igniti on key to prevent uni ntentiona l moveme nts during lubri cation. When lubricati ng with an oil can, it must b e filled w ith eng ine oil. When lubricatin g with gr ease, un less oth erwise stated, u se a h igh grade mo lybdenum disu lfide greas e.
English- 52 LUBRICATION Lubricating the Cables If poss ible, greas e both end s of the c ables and mo ve the controls to end stop position s when lub ricating. Refit the rubber covers on the cable s after lubricat ion. Cable s with sh eaths wil l bind if they are not lubrica ted regular ly .
English- 53 LUBRICATION 3. Engine Oil, Kohle r Engine Changing the Engine Oil Change oi l after every 100 hours of oper ation (more fr equently under sev ere conditi ons). Refill with serv ice clas s SG , SH, S J or higher oil as specified in the Viscos ity Grade s tab le on p age 55.
English- 54 LUBRICATION Checking the Oil L evel The im portance of checki ng and m aintaining the p roper oil level in the cra nkcase cannot be over emphasi zed. Check oil before e ach use a s follows: 1. Make sur e the eng ine is s topped. level, and co ol so the oil has had time to drain into th e oil pan.
English- 55 LUBRICATION Oil Recommendations Using t he proper ty pe and wei ght of oil in the crankc ase is e xtremely i mportant. So is check ing oil daily an d changin g oil regul arly . Fail ure to use t he co rrect oil , or using dirty o il, cause s prematur e engine we ar and failu re.
English- 56 LUBRICATION 3. Engine Oil, Ka wasaki Engine Changing the Engine Oil The en gine oil shall be chang ed for the first time after 8 hours of op eration. Thereafter , it should be ch anged eve ry 100 ho urs. 1. Place th e machin e on a fl at surface .
English- 57 LUBRICATION The oi l level sh all lie between the marking s on the di pstick. If the l evel is approachi ng the “ADD” mark , top up the oil to the “F ULL” mark on the di pstick. Never fill above t he “FULL” mark. The oi l is filled th rough the hole for the dip stick .
