12 Turning on for the first time To turn on your tablet, press an d hold the powe r button for tw o seconds. You will then be asked so me questions before you ca n use your tablet. To start, tap to select yo ur langua ge, then tap Sta rt . Foll ow the rest of the instructions as they a re displayed.
13 Using the touchscreen any services. Your tablet will lock automati cally if it is not used after a whil e. To change the delay, tap Apps > Se ttings > Screen > Timeout . Waking your tablet If the screen is off and the tablet does not react to any taps on the screen, then it has been locked an d is in sleep mode.
14 The Home screen When you start your tablet, or wake it from power saving, it will display the Home screen. This screen gives you qu ick access to information and simple controls with widgets or sh ortcuts. These display info rmation such as the time and favorite bookmarks, or provide addi tional controls and direct access to applications.
15 The Home screen Home Tap this icon to g o dire ctly to the Home screen. Recent Tap this icon to see recently opene d appl icat ions. Tap an appl ication to ope n it, or tap anywhere on the screen to return to the Home screen. Settings This icon is disp layed in some ap plic ations.
16 The application menu The applicatio n menu displays appl ications installed on your tablet. Two categories are available All an d My apps . All displays all applic ations that are installed on your tablet; My apps d isplays appl ications that you ha ve installed f rom th e Android Market .
17 The Home screen Tap the status icons to view more stat us information and a summary of events. Tap the status area again to view more controls. While view ing a notification, tap the summary to see more information , if available. So me event summaries include controls, such as media controls if music is playing.

19 The Home screen Personalizing the Home screen You may personalize your Home screen by adding or removing application shortcuts or widg ets, and by changing the wallpaper. Adding or removing s hortcuts or widgets To add shortcuts or widgets op en the Add to Home screen: tap the plus sign next to Apps in the top-right corner of the Home screen.
20 Adding shortcuts from the Application menu You can add shortcuts to the Home scre en directly from the application menu. Open the Application menu then tap and hold an icon until an image of the Home screens appears. Drag the icon to a Home screen to creat e a shortcut.
21 The onscreen keyboard settings . These sett ings include Auto -correction and keyb oard sounds and vibratio n. Predictive text or auto correction The Android keyboard can p rovide pre dictive text in put.

24 Connecting devices to your tablet Connecting to AC power See “Charging your t ablet” on page 11. Inserting a micro SD card (optional) You may install a micro SD card to expand your device's storage space. Note: Your tablet only supports microSD cards that use the FAT or FAT32 file system.
25 Connecting a USB device to your ta blet This allows you to tran sfer your personal dat a to, or from, your PC, using your PC’s file explorer. Plug the micro US B co nnector t o your tablet, and plug the other end of the USB cable in to a USB port on your PC.
26 Tap Find nearby devices to sca n for availa ble devices. Note: Please check for updates to the tablet's software that may add support for additional Bluetooth devices.
27 Managing Wi-Fi connections Going online Managing Wi-Fi connections If you did not connect to a Wi-Fi network when you first star ted your tablet, or want to connect to a new netw ork, tap Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings to manage your co nn ection settings.
28 You may open multiple tabs . When a page is open, press the small tab with a plus sign. Simply tap one of the tabs ac ross the top of the screen to switch pages. New tab Pinch to zoom in or o ut of pages. Tap and hold an item on a page to open a contextu al menu.
29 Setting up the Email app lication Setting up the Email application The Email application enable s you to access emai l from most popular email providers. Most account s can be set up in two steps. Open th e applic ation menu and then tap Email to start set ting up your email access.
30 Acer SocialJogger Acer SocialJogger combines your social network updates in one l ocation, allowi ng you to quickl y follow what your fri ends are doing across several platforms. From the application menu, tap Acer SocialJogger to l aunch the program.
31 Online applications You can b rowse the ma rket by cat egory or tap the sear ch icon to search for a specific applicati on. Once you have selected an application, tap the DOWNLOAD button to download and i nstall the appl ication. You will be told wh ich services (contact information, wireless access, GPS, etc.
32 Using downloaded applications Once you’ve downloaded an d installed an ap plication, you may find it in the My apps or All sections o f the Application menu. Certain appli cations also pro vide widgets, or o nly provide a widg et (with no ap plication icon).
33 Using the content folders Acer content folders Your tablet includes content f olders th at allow you to easily organize and access your favorite a pplications. Choose one of the fo ur categories on the Home screen or app lication menu: eRea ding , Games , Multimedia or Social .
34 Selecting a content folder The fold er shortcu ts on th e home screen or Applicat ion menu giv e you direct access to any of t he four c ategori es. If you have opened a category, you can easily change ca tegory by swiping th e screen to the left or right.
35 Multimedia playback Playing music and video Multimedia playback Your tablet comes suppli ed with a var iety of programs that you ca n use to enjoy multimedia content. Acer clear.fi With Acer clear.fi , you ca n browse and stream remote multimedia content from, or to, other devices wi th Acer clear.
36 Drag the bar on left side for more viewing options. clear.fi photos Tap the photo album to view the thumbnails. Tap and hold an album or photo thumbnail to view the menu panel. You can view ph otos found on any o f the connected devices and save them.
37 Multimedia playback Note: The Acer clear.fi video player only plays MP4 files. Pleas e check for updates to the tablet's software whic h may add support for other types of video. See “Updating your tablet ’s operating system” on page 59.
38 nemoPlayer Open nemoPlayer from the application menu to pl ay media you have stored on your tablet. nemoPlayer enables you to listen to musi c, view video cl ips and pictures i n all the formats suppor ted by your tablet. See “Multimedia” on page 63.
39 Managing contacts Your tablet features an address book th at allows you to save contacts to the internal memory, SIM card or your Goog le account. Tap Con tacts from the application menu to view your contacts.
40 You may now ed it the new contact entry. Editing a contact If you have opened an new o r existing contact you can enter information about the contact: Simply tap on a box and type the approp riate information. Click on the arrow next to the name entry to se e op tions, such as add ing a name prefi x or phonetic name.
41 Tap on an entry (such as an email addre ss) to open the appl ication linked to that type of ent ry. For example, tap an email address to open the Gmail application. To add or change i nformation, tap the pen cil icon. Tap Do ne to save changes, or Cancel to discard them.
42 Using the camera Your tablet features two cameras: a 5-megapixel digital camera and flash mounted on the rear and a 2-megapixel digital camera mounted on the front. This section will take you thro ugh all the steps in taki ng photos and vi deos with your tablet.

45 Shooting a video Note: Zoom is only availa ble in certain resolutions. Supported formats Viewing photos and videos After you have tak en your phot o or video, it is automatically s aved; normally to internal memory. After taking a photo or video, you can view it in the Gallery by tappin g the thumbnail in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
46 Reading an eBook or pdf LumiRead The LumiRead application al lows you to purchase, st or e and read books on your tablet. Tap the LumiRead shortcut in the Application menu, or the eR eading content folder, to open the LumiRead application. The bookshelves The contents of your tablet are shown on the screen as a series of bookshelves .
47 LumiRead Recently read The first shelf (at the top) displays books you have recently read. This list will change to reflec t your activity. Favorites / tags As you add books to your tablet, you may find it d ifficult to find the bo ok you need.
48 Warning: Certain vendors may use copy right p rotection systems that cannot be opened by your tablet. Please check which DRM (Digital Rig hts Management ) system is us ed. LumiRead supp orts books protected with Adobe ID. In order to read certain books, you must activate your tablet with an Adobe ID.
49 LumiRead To add books to your tablet’s internal memory or to a micro SD card, copy the books to the Lumi Books folder, see “Transferring files betwe en a microSD card and your PC“ on page 24 or “Conn ecting to a PC as a USB storage device“ on page 24 .
50 Your Adobe ID Some books available for purchase ar e protected with Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Manageme nt). Befor e you can re ad them, you must enter an Adobe ID to activate your tablet. Only one activation is required, as it covers all purchases.
51 Installing a SIM card (only for Wi-Fi+3G models) Using a cellular data network (only for Wi-Fi+3G models) ‘3G’, or data o ver a cellu lar network, is only availabl e on models eq uiped with a SIM card slot, or through a separate 3G modem (not supplied - available from your mobile I nternet provider , check for compat ibility).
52 Important: Depending on yo ur settings, you may be required to enter your PIN each time you switch on the cellular data function. SIM card lock Your tablet may come with a SIM card lock , i.e., you will only be able to use the SIM card provided by your network operator.
53 Internet sharing Disable data when roaming You can prevent your tablet from transmitti ng data over other carriers’ mobile networks when you a re trave ling and le ave an a rea that i s covered by your carrier’s networks. This is useful for c ontrol ling expenses if your mo bile data contract doesn’ t include data roaming.
54 Wi-Fi hotspot You can tu rn your tabl et into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot to share your m obile Internet connection with up to eight client s. 1. Tap Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks > Tethering & portable hotspot . 2. Tap Portable Wi-fi hotspot and Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings.
55 Sound Advanced settings Access Settings from the Application menu. Tap Apps , then Settings . Sound Adjust the volume of your tablet using the volume buttons on the side of the tablet. Alternatively, you can adjust your tablet so und settings by tappi ng Apps > Settings > Sound .
56 Putting your tablet in Airplane mode You can enter Airp lane mode (als o known as flight mode) to turn off network and Bluetooth function s and use your ta blet during a flight.
57 Adjusting Bluetooth sett ings Adjusting Bluetooth settings You can use Bluetoo th to exchange info rmation between your tablet and other mobile devices. Bluetooth connections For all Bluetooth settings, tap Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth settings .
58 Some applica tions, such a s Gma il and Calendar, h ave their own synchronizat ion settings. Ope n the application and tap the Menu button (four bars) and then tap Accounts . Auto-sync To have your tablet auto-sync, make sure Background data and Auto-sync are enabled.
59 Changing language and text options Changing language and text options Set your locati on and language input preferences by opening the application menu and going to Apps > Settings > Language & input . Managing applications You can allow p rograms from Unknown sources to be installed and Manage applications .
60 Clean boot A clean boot will restore your tablet to the factory settings. Warning! This will erase all your pers onal information, any cont acts stored on your tablet and any program s you installe d.
