For the best results, please read this manual through carefully as it is your guide thr ough the contr ol menus and operation.

Always place the projector on a leve l, horizontal surface during operation. - Do not use if tilted at an angle of more than 10 degrees left to right, nor at angle of more than 15 degrees front to back. 17 Connection Connecting a mo nitor If you want t o view your presentation close-up on a monit or as well as on the screen, y ou can connect the D-SUB OUT sig nal out put so cket on the p rojec tor to a n ex ternal mon itor w ith a V GA or V GA to DV I-A c able by following the instructions below .
18 Connection Connecting Video sour ce dev ices This section describes how to connect the project or to V ideo source devices using video cables. Video cable connections are r ecommended for V ideo prese ntations.
19 Connection Connecting a D VI-D sourc e dev ice The project or provides a DVI-D input socket that allow s you to connect it to a D VI-D source device lik e a DVD play er . DVI- D format is used to dir ectly carry a digital signal to a digital display without signal conv ersion.
20 Connection Connecting a Component V ideo sourc e dev ice Examine your V ideo source device to det ermine if it has a set of unused Component V ideo output sockets available: • If so , you can con tinue with this procedure. • If not, you will need to reassess which method you can use t o connect to the device.
21 Connection Connecting an S-Video or a composite V ideo source device Examine your V ideo source device t o determine if it has an unused S-V ideo or Video ou tput socket available: • If it has both sock ets, use the S-V i deo output socket for connection as the S-V ideo terminal provides better picture quality than the Video terminal .
22 Operation Operation Star ting up the projecto r 1. Plug the po wer cor d into the pr ojector and into a wall socket. T ur n on the wall s ocket switch (where fitted). 2. Pr ess the main power switch to the I posi tion. Check that the POWER indicator light on the pr ojector lights orange after power has been applied.
23 Operation U sing the On-Screen Displa y (OSD) menus The projector is equipped with On-Screen Displa y (O SD) menus for making various adjustments and setting s. Below is the ov er view of the OSD menu. T o use the OSD menus, please set the OSD menu to y our familiar language first.
24 Operation U tilizing the password function For security purposes and to help prevent unauthorized use, the pr ojector includes an option for setting up password security .

26 Operation S w itching input signal The project or can be connect ed to multiple devices at the same time. H owever , it can only display one full screen at a time.

28 Operation Cor rect ing ke ystone K eystoning refer s to the situation where the projected image is noticeably wider at either the top or bottom. It occurs when the projector is not perpendicular t o the screen.
29 Operation Selectin g the as pect ratio The 'aspect ratio' is the r atio of the image width to th e image height. Most anal og TV and computers ar e in 4:3 ratio, and digital TV and DVDs are usually in 16:9 ratio .
30 Operation Optimizing the i mage Us i n g W a l l C o l o r In the situation where y ou are projectin g onto a colored surface suc h as a p ainted wall which ma y not be white, the W a ll Color feature can help c orrect the projected picture ’ s color to pr event possible color diff erence between the source and projected pictures.
31 Operation Setting the User 1/User 2 mode There ar e two user -definable modes if the current availabl e picture modes are not s uitable for your need. Y ou can use one of the pictur e modes (ex cept the User 1/2 ) as a start ing point and customize the set tings.
32 Operation A djusting Brilliant Color Hi ghligh t Brilliant Color in the PICTURE menu and select by pressing / on the projector or remote contro l. This feature utilizes a new color -proc essing algorit hm and system level enh ancements to enable high er bri ght ness while providing truer , more vibrant colors in picture.
33 Operation Please refer t o the illustration to the right for how the colors rela te to each oth er . For e xample, if you select R ed and set its range at 0, only pure red in the pr ojected picture will be selected. Incr easing its range will include red close to y ellow and red close t o magenta.
34 Operation 6. Pr ess to highlight Timer Audible Reminder and decide if you want to activat e the sound reminder by pr essing / . If y ou select On , a double beep sound will be heard at the last 30 seconds of c ounting down/up, and a triple beep sound will be generated when the timer is up.
35 Operation Hid in g t he im ag e In order to dr aw the audienc e's full a ttention to the prese nter , you can use BLANK o n th e pr oj e c to r o r re mo te c on t ro l to hi d e t h e s c re e n im a ge . The wor d ' BLANK ' appears in the c orner of the screen while the image is hidden.
36 Operation Locking control k eys W ith the control k eys on the projector locked, y ou ca n prevent y our projector setting s from being changed accidentally (by children, for e xample). Whe n the Panel Key Lock is on, no control k eys on the projector will opera te except Power .
37 Operation Cr eating your o wn star tup screen In addition to selecting the project or preset star tup sc reen fr om among BenQ logo, Black or Blue screen , you can make y our own star tup screen that is a picture projected fr om your computer or video source.
38 Operation P ersonalizing the On-Screen Displa y (OSD) menus The On-Screen Display (OSD) menus can be set ac cording t o your prefe rences. The following settings do not affect the projection settings, operation, or performance.
39 Operation On-Screen Displa y (OSD) M enus Me n u s t r u c t u re Please note that the on-screen displa y (OSD) menus vary accor ding to the signal type selected. Some functions are a vailable only when certain input signals are in use. The menu items are a vailable when the projector detects at least one valid signal.
40 Operation The default values listed in this man ual, especially on pages 41 - 43 , are for refer ence only . They may var y from the projectors due t o the continuous improv ement to the products.

44 Maintenance M aintenanc e Care of the pr ojector Y our project or needs little maintenanc e. The only thing you n eed t o do on a r egular basis is to keep the le ns clean. Nev er remov e any parts of the pr ojector ex cept the lamp. C ontact your dealer if othe r par ts need replacing.
45 Maintenance Extending lamp life The projection lamp is a consumable it em that norma lly can last up to 2000-3000 hours with proper usage. T o keep the lamp life as long as possible, y ou can do the following settings via the OSD menus. • Setting Lamp Mode a s Economic U sing Economic mode reduces system noise and power consumption.
46 Maintenance Re p l a c i n g t h e la mp • T o redu ce the risk of electrical shock, always turn t he projector off and disconn ect the power cord before changing the l amp. • T o reduce th e risk of severe burns, allow the proje ctor to cool for at least 45 minutes b efore replacing the lamp.
47 Maintenance 6. As sh own in the figure, hold the new lamp and align the two locators on the lamp with the holes on the projector , and then insert the lamp all the way into the pr ojector . 7. Tighten the screw that secures the lamp. Loose screw may cause a bad con nection, which could result in malfunction.
