Connection 19 The final connection path should be like that shown in the following diagr am: Many notebooks do not turn on their external video ports when connected to a projector . Usually a key combo l ike FN + F3 or CRT/LCD key turns the e xternal display on/off.
Connection 20 Connecting a monit or If y ou want to view yo ur presentation cl ose-up on a monit or as well as on the scr een, you can connect the D-SUB OUT signal output sock et on the project or to an external monit or with a V GA or V GA to DVI-A cable by following the instru ctions below.
Connection 21 Connecting Video sourc e dev ices This section d escribes how t o connect the project or to V ideo sour ce devices usin g video cables. V ideo cable c onnections are r ecommended f or Vide o presentations.
Connection 22 Connecting a DVI sourc e dev ice The pr ojector pro vides a DVI inpu t socket that allows you to connect it to a D VI sourc e device like a DVD playe r , or a V G A output device lik e a notebook or desktop computer . There ar e three types of DVI connect ors: DVI-A, DV I-D , and DVI-I.
Connection 23 In the unlikely event that you connect the projector to a DVD player via the projector’ s DVI-D input and the projected picture displays wrong colors, please change the color space to YUV. See "Changing Color Sp ace" on page 31 for details.
Connection 24 Connecting an S-V ideo source d e vice Examine y our Video source device t o determine if it has an unused S-V ideo output socket avai lab le: • If so, you can continue with this procedure. • If not, you w ill need to reassess which me thod you can use to connect to the device.

Operat ion 26 Operation Star ting up the projecto r 1. Plug the po wer cor d into the project or and into a wall socket. T urn on the wall sock et switch (where fitted). Check that the Po we r i n d ic a t o r on the projector lights orange after power ha s been applied.
Operation 27 Us i n g t h e m e n u s The pr ojector is equip ped with On-Screen Dis play (OSD) me nus for making various adjustments and settings. Below is the overview of the OSD menu. T o use the OSD menus, please set the OSD menu to y our familiar language first.
Operat ion 28 Securing the projecto r U sing a secur ity cable lock The proj ector has to be installed in a safe p lace to pr event st ealing. If not, pur chase a lock, like K ensington lock, to secure the projector . Y ou can locate a K ensington lock slot on the rear side of the projecto r .
Operation 29 Setting a password Once a passwor d has been set and the p ower on lock is activated, the projector cannot be used unless the correct p assword is entered every time the projector is st arted.
Operat ion 30 Entering the password r ecall procedure Press and hold AUTO on the project or or remote control for 3 seconds. The pr oje ctor will display a coded number on the screen. W rite down the number and turn off your projector . S eek help from the local BenQ ser vice cent er to decode the number .
Operation 31 Though the password function is disabled, you need to keep the old password in hand should you ever need to re-ac tivate the p assword function by entering the old password. S w itching input signal The pr ojector can be co nnected to m ultiple devices at the s ame time.
Operat ion 32 A djusting the projected image A djusting the projection angle The projector is equipp ed with 1 quick- release adjuster foot and 1 rear adjuster foot. Thes e adjusters change t he image height and proj ection angle. T o adjust the project or: 1.
Operation 33 Corr ecting keysto ne K eystoning refers to the situation where the proj ected image is notic eably wider at either the top or bott om. It occurs when the projec tor is not perpendicular to the screen.

Operation 35 4. Rea l : The image is projected as its original resolution, and r esized to fit within the displa y area. F or input signals with lower resol utions, the projected image w ill display smaller than if resized to full screen.

Operation 37 Adj u st i n g C o l or High light Color in the PICTURE menu and adjust the values by pr essing / on the proj ec tor or re mo te co nt rol. Low er setting pr oduces less saturated col ors; setting to the minimum value mak es the image black and white.
Operat ion 38 3D Color Management In most installatio n situations, color mana gement will not be necessary, s uch as in classroom, meeting room, or lounge room situations where ligh ts remain on, or where building exte rnal w indows allo w daylight into the room.

Operation 41 Hid in g t he im ag e In order t o draw the audience's full att ention to the presenter , you can u se BLANK on the projector or remote control to hide the screen image. The word ' BLANK ' appears in th e corner o f the screen while the image is hidden.
Operat ion 42 U tilizing F A Q function The INFORMATION menu contains possible solutions to problems enc ountered by users regarding imag e quality , installation, special featur e operation and serv ice info rmation. T o get the F AQ info rmation: 1.
Operation 43 Oper at ing in a h ig h altitu de en v ironment W e recommend you use the H igh Altitude Mo de when your en v ironment is between 1500 m –3000 m above sea lev el, and temperature is between 0°C–35°C. Do not use the High Altitude Mode if your al titude is between 0 m and 1500 m and temperature is between 0°C and 35°C.
Operat ion 44 A djusting the sound The sound adjustments made as below will have an effect on the projector speake r . Be sure you have made a correct connec tion to the projector audio in put. See "Connection" on page 18 for how the audio input is connected.

Selecting On enables the function and projector cooling time will be shor tened from a normal 90- second dura tion to approximately 30 seconds .

Maintenance 53 Maint enance Care of the pr ojec tor Y our pr ojector needs litt le maintenanc e. The only thi ng you need t o do on a regu lar basis is to keep the lens clean. Nev er remov e any parts of the pr ojector ex cept the lamp . Contact y our dealer if other parts need replaci ng.
Maintenance 54 Lamp information Getting to kno w the lamp hour Whe n the project or is in operation , the duration (in hours ) of lamp usage is au tomatically calculated by the built-in timer .
Maintenance 55 T iming of replacing th e lamp Whe n th e Lamp indicator lights up red or a message appears suggesting it is time to replac e the lamp , please install a n ew lamp or con sult your d ealer . An old lamp may cause a malfunction in the projector and in some insta nces the lamp may e xplode.
Maintenance 56 R eplacing the lamp • T o reduce the risk of electrical shock, alway s turn the projector off and disconnect the power cord before changing the lamp. • T o reduce the risk of severe burns, allow the pr ojector to cool for at least 45 minutes before replacing the lamp.

U se the handle to slo wly pull the lamp out of the projector . • Pulling it too quickly may cause the lamp to break and scatter broken glass in the projector . • Do not place the lamp in locations where water might splash on it, children can reach it, or near flammable ma terials.
