6 Features & Functions 1 . Page icon button (P AGE): Press to page the handset. The handset will ring for about 25 seconds then end the paging automatically . 2 . Charger indicator LED: Lights up when handset is placed on the base for charging. (RED) 3 .
7 Features & Functions 6. Lighted keypad: The keypad stays lit up for 15 seconds after removing the hand- set from the base. T o reactivate the feature while in standby , press the or the “ MEMO ” button. T o activate while the phone is in use, press any key .

9 Features & Functions ERROR message: The CALLER ID display is unable to identify the caller ’s name and/or number . The LCD will show ERROR , this does not mean that there is a fault with your phone. IN ST ANDBY mode: In this mode the LCD display will show the handset number , date and real time (See diagram #4).

1 1 Installing Batteries Handset batteries MUST be connected before beginning initial charging! (Diagram #6) – Installing the batteries 1. Remove battery compartment cover by sliding it downwards.
12 Battery Life Fully charged batteries provide an average talk time of about 4 hours, or standby time of about 8 days. T alk time & standby time may vary depending on operating conditions.
13 Area Code Setting Y our BellSouth A50 allows you to dial from your CALLER ID memory and your phonebook. When you use your phone for the rst time or if you have moved to a different area code, you need to enter your area code into the phone.

15 Caution : When the “ AUTO AMPLIFY ” switch is set to ON , the handset volume will be set to loud. T o protect people who do not experience a hearing loss, we suggest setting the switch to OFF . Y ou may turn the extra amplication feature back ON by pressing the “ AMPLIFY ” button.

Once the handset is too far away from the base, an out of range warning tone will be sounded indicating the user should move closer to the base. If not, after about 20 seconds, the handset will automatically disconnect and your phone will be left off the hook.
17 Basic A50 Operation Answering A Call 1. If the handset is off of the base, press the button to receive the call. -Or- 1. If the handset is in the base, lift the handset to receive the call. 2. Adjust your V olume and T one settings if needed (See page #16 for information on adjusting Volume & T one controls).
18 Using The Pause Feature For Dialing The “ R/P ” button is used to insert a temporary pause during a dialing sequence. Program- ming in a pause will cause the phone to wait two (2) seconds before dialing additional numbers.
19 NOTE : When you plug the headset into the HEADSET JACK , it automatically mutes the microphone and speaker of the cordless handset. Unplug the headset to return the handset to normal use.
20 -Or- Save numbers and names from the CALLER ID to phone book 1. Begin with the phone in the standby mode, press the or arrow button repeatedly to find the CALLER ID number you want to add. 2. If the number has the caller ’s name, press the “ MEMO ” button to store.
21 Deleting all records from phone book 1. In standby mode, press the “ MEMO ” button, and then the LCD shows the total number of records. 2. Press the “ F ” button twice (2), and then all of the records will be deleted.
22 Deleting a single CALLER ID number 1. In standby mode, press the or arrow button, then the LCD display shows the total number of CALLER ID numbers and new numbers ( A L L 0 0 NEW 00 ). 2 . 23 T echnical information This cordless telephone uses radio frequencies to allow mobility . There are certain dif- culties in using radio frequencies with a cordless telephone.
