The product parts and accesso ries are packed together in th e accessories box. T o avoid damage, see the instructions on the following pages before setting up and using Cinti q or the C intiq stand.
Unpacking your Cintiq Page 10 SETTING UP THE CINTIQ STAND Place the stand on your desktop or work surface. Make sure the stand is stable and will not tip or fall when the pen display is mounted on it. Then familiarize yourself with the stand components.
Unpacking your Cintiq Page 11 UNPACKING AND MOUNTING THE CINTIQ PEN DISPLAY Remove any packin g materials from the back of the display unit an d cabling. Mount Cintiq on th e stand: • Make sur e the stand is placed in a stable position on your desktop or ot her work surfac e so that it will not tip or fall when Cintiq is mounted on it.
Unpacking your Cintiq Page 12 ADJUSTING THE DISPLAY INCLINE T o adjust the dis play incline, face the front of the Cintiq pen display and grasp it on the left and right side at approximately the same height as the Cintiq stand adjustment levers .
Unpacking your Cintiq Page 13 ADJUSTING R OTATION T o adjust rotation, grasp Cintiq by the main body and rotate the unit to the desired position; it will move on the be aring hub. Cintiq can be rotated on the display stand when the incline is less than or equal to 25 degr ees.

The display and tablet sen sor functio n as an integr ated output and in put device.
Your Cintiq interactive pen display Page 15 REAR VIEW Important: Always store the interactive pen display on the Cintiq display stand or in its original packing carton when not in use. Do not store the display unit on a su rface that w ould excessively bend or crimp the ca ble.
Your Cintiq interactive pen display Page 16 PEN FEATUR ES Important: Only use a pen that is compatible with C intiq, such as the pen th at shipped with the unit, or pens from the Intuos4 product line which h ave a part number endin g in “-01”. Other pen s may not function properly .
Installation Page 17 INSTALLATION The computer trea ts the interac tive pen display a s two separa te devices (t he display and the pen tablet). Ther efore, the installa tion proces s is completed in two stages: • First install as a display . • Then insta ll as a pen tablet .
Installation Page 18 STEP 1: DISPLAY INSTALLATION In this step, Cintiq is installed a s a display on your system. Important: Never c onnect or disconnect the video or power cables while your compu ter or pen display are powered on. This can damage the display or video card.

Installation Page 20 7. Next, tur n on your computer . For Windows : The interactive pen disp lay will automatically install as a default monitor . T o identify the unit as a pen display and ins t all.
Installation Page 21 8. As necessary , configure the display cont rol panel settings for the proper size and color resolution. See the “Pr oduct specification s” on page 68 for details about the maximum (native) r esolution and other resolution sizes that can be used with Cintiq.
Installation Page 22 STEP 2: PEN TABLET INSTALLATION In this step, Cintiq is in stalled as a pen tablet. USB CABLE INSTALLATION Plug the USB conn ector into an available USB port on your compu ter or into a USB hub attached to your computer . Next, install the pen tablet soft ware.
Installation Page 23 SOFTWAR E INSTALLATION Important: Y ou MUST install t he W acom driver so ftware for correct pen-on-screen functionality . Save your work and close all open applications. T emporarily disable any vir us protection programs. • Insert the Installation C D into yo ur computer’ s CD-ROM drive.

Working with your Cintiq Page 25 Tips: If the rotation lock sc rews are attached to the back of Cintiq, they mus t be removed before Cintiq ca n be rotated.
Working with your Cintiq Page 26 USING THE GRIP PEN The pen is cordless, batter y-free, and senses the amo unt of tilt and pressure you exert upon it. HOLDING THE PEN Hold the pe n like you would a normal pen or pencil.
Working with your Cintiq Page 27 POSITIONING CLICKING T o position the screen cursor , move the pe n slightly above the Cintiq display s creen without touc hing the sc reen surface. Press the pen tip on the display screen to make a selection. Note: Y ou must calibrate the pen display t o correc tly align the screen cursor with the pen tip.
Working with your Cintiq Page 28 DRAGGING USING THE SIDE SWITCH The pen is e quipped with a DuoSwitch. This switch h as two programmable functions th at can be selected by rocking the s witch in either direction. Y ou can use the Du oSwitch when ever the pe n tip is within proximity (5 mm (0.
Working with your Cintiq Page 29 USING THE PEN HOLDER An integrated pen holder is loca ted at the back of the pen dis play . The pen ho lder is a handy f eature for those times when it is inconvenient to use the desk top pen stand. Note: The pen holder is not available for use when routing the cable to exit through the top cable opening.
Working with your Cintiq Page 30 PEN DISPLAY CONTR OLS T o improve your workflow in graphi cs or othe r applications, the Cintiq pen display features Expr essKeys and T ouch Stri ps. While using the pen with your dominant hand, you can simu ltaneously use your other hand to opera te the Exp ressKeys or T ouch Strip.
Working with your Cintiq Page 31 USING THE EXPR ESSKEYS Press individual keys to perform frequently use d functions o r keystrokes. ExpressKeys c an also be used to modify y our pen or other input tool properties as you work. The ExpressKeys can also be operated in combination with on e another .
Working with your Cintiq Page 32 Here are a few ideas for using the ExpressKeys: • Set a pair of keys to commonly used ke ystrokes, such as [ and ] to decrease and in crease your brush size in Photoshop. • Set a key t o a commonly u sed keyboard shortcu t in order to open files o r start an applica tion.

Customizing Page 36 CALIBRATING CINTIQ Y ou must calibrate the pen display to align the screen cur sor with the position of the pe n on the display screen. This is required to compensate for viewing angle, and to adjust f or parallax caused by the display screen cover glass.
Customizing Page 37 ADJUSTING PITCH AND PHASE (VGA ONLY) Some computers a nd video cards may not allow the auto-sy nc function to fully work when C intiq is first connected.
Customizing Page 38 ADJUSTING THE DISPLAY FACTORY PR ESETS, AUTO-SYNC, AND USER SETTINGS Factory presets : For optimal display quality , set your video car d to the maximum (native) r esolution that can be use d with Cintiq. See the “Product specif ications” on page 68 for details.
Customizing Page 39 Menu options are available when you open the On Screen Display (OSD). OSD P OSITION options include: •V ERTICAL . Adjusts the vertical positi on of the OSD menu window . •H ORIZON TAL . Adjusts the horizontal position of the OSD menu window .
Customizing Page 40 S CALING options include: F ULL . Resizes the image to fill the whole scr een. A SPECT . Resizes the image to fill as much of the sc reen as possible while maintaining the c orrect aspect ratio. 1:1. Displays the image at the actual resolution.
Customizing Page 41 POWER SAVING Cintiq conforms to VE SA po wer saving guidelines. When used with a Display Power Management Signa ling (DPMS) compliant comput er or video car d, the display will automatically comply with the below power saving parameters.
Troubleshooting Page 42 TROUBLESHOOTING Most of the t ime your interactive pen d isplay will wo rk flawlessly . But if you are having trouble, W acom recommends you do the fo llowing: 1. If the W acom driver failed to load pr operly , first perform the reco mmended action in any err or message that may appear on you r screen.
Troubleshooting Page 43 3. V erify th at the tablet por tion of Cintiq and t he Grip Pen are working: • Press the pen tip again st the displa y and verify that the stat us LED lights blu e. • If the LED doe s not light, ver ify that the Cin tiq USB cable is plugg ed into an active USB port.
Troubleshooting Page 44 T ESTING CONTR OLS AND INPUT TOOLS If the Grip Pen, or the Cint iq ExpressKeys or T ou ch Strips do not work as you expect, it is a good idea to first check th e assigned functions or r eset them to their default co nditions.
Troubleshooting Page 45 T ESTING THE T OUCH STRIPS 1. With the D IA GNOSTICS dialog box open, observe the T ABLET I NFO column as you test each T ouch Strip. If you ha ve more than one Cint iq unit co nnecte d to your system, be sure you have selec ted the unit you are testing from the T ABLET I NFO column.
Troubleshooting Page 46 T ESTING A PEN 1. While observing the P OINTING D EVICE I NFO c olumn, bring your pen within 5 mm (0.2 in ch) of the display screen. A value for P ROXI M IT Y , the D EVICE N AME , D EVICE T YPE , an d a D EVICE S/N (serial number) should be displayed.

Troubleshooting Page 48 An ‘out of range’ m essage appears briefly on your display screen. • The input s ignal frequency is inc orrectly set or not compatible with Cintiq. Set th e refr esh rate to a ver tical frequ ency that is compatible with Cintiq.
Troubleshooting Page 49 VGA PROBLEMS The display ripples or flickers. • Open the OSD menu an d select the A UTO A DJUST option. Then, if neces sary , manually adjust pit ch and phase. • V erify that the displa y adapter or video c ard matches the specifications for Cintiq.
Troubleshooting Page 50 PEN TABLET TR OUBLESHOOTING If you encount er problems with the tablet portion of your Cintiq, see the following ta bles. Y our problem may be described here, and you can try the solutio n offer ed. Be su re to see the Cintiq Read Me file for th e latest information.
Troubleshooting Page 51 The eraser selects everything or will not stop eras ing. Open the W acom T ablet control panel and go to the E RASER tab. Move t he E RASER F EEL slider toward F IRM , or select the D ETAILS ... button and increase the C LICK T HRESHOLD setting.
Troubleshooting Page 52 The pen side switch does not work. Be sure you are using the pen t hat origina lly came with your interactive pen display , or an Intuos4 pe n which has a part number ending in “-01”. Othe r pens may not function properly on th e pen display .
Troubleshooting Page 53 The line you ar e drawing does not line up with the location of the scree n cursor . T o function properly , some applications require that the pen is set to P EN mode.
Troubleshooting Page 54 WINDOWS-SPECIFIC PROBLEMS Y ou su spect the Cintiq preferences may be corrupted, or want to make certain that all settings are at their factory defa ults. Use the W acom T ablet Preference File Utility to work w ith your prefer ences.
Troubleshooting Page 55 MACINTOSH-SPECIFIC PR OBLEMS At startup, a dialog box appears telling you that either the driver failed to load or the pen display pref erence s have not yet been crea ted. The tablet portion of the pen display was not detect ed at startup.
Troubleshooting Page 56 Ink does not work correctly with t he pen display . There may be a problem with the Ink preferences. Remove the damaged pr eference files as follows. They will be re-c reated when y ou enab le handwriting r ecognition. 1. Open the S YSTEM P RE F ERE N C ES pane, choose S HOW A LL and select I NK .

Troubleshooting Page 58 OBTAINING DRIVER DOWNLOADS W acom periodically updates the softwa re driver for th e tablet portion of t he interactive pen display to maintain compatibility with new products.

CARING FOR CINTIQ Keep the Grip Pen a nd the Cint iq LCD screen surface clean. Dust and dirt particle s can stick to th e pen and cause excessive wear to the dis play screen surface.
Appendix Page 60 REPLACING THE PEN TIP The pen tip (nib) will wear with normal use. Excessiv e pressur e will cause it to wear sooner . If your interactive pe n display has a coated surface a worn nib may cause damage. T o avoid this, periodic tip rep lacement is r ecommended.
Appendix Page 61 OPTIONAL DISPLAY CONFIGURATIONS After mounti ng the pen d isplay unit on the Cintiq st and, you ca n rotate the pen di splay to a va riety of positions. If you do not p lan to rotate the Cin tiq and want to fasten it more secur ely to the sta nd, install the rotation lock scr ews as shown below .
Appendix Page 62 USING AN ALTER NATE MOUNT OR STAND Cintiq can be atta ched to any mount a rm or stand conforming to the VESA 100 sta ndard. Mounting screws that are 4 mm wide with a 0.7 mm pitch (M4 Regular), with a s crew cl earance depth fr om 13 – 18 mm are r equired.
