1 - 2 The battery and SIM card THE BATTERY AND SIM CARD If your Vertu phone was pu rchased at a Vertu store, the battery and SIM card should have been installed already. Otherwise, follow the procedure below to instal l your SIM card and battery. The SIM card and its contac ts are easily damaged.
1 - 3 Vertu phone keypad > Insert the battery ( 07 ) t op end first. E nsure that the contacts on the top end of the battery align with the contact points ( 08 ) inside the battery compartment. > Ensure that the battery and SI M card are seated correctly before replacing the bac k cover .
1 - 4 Switching on yo ur Vertu phone SWITCHING ON YOUR VERTU PHONE If your battery requires charging, a battery low message is displayed when you first switch on your Vertu phone. Refer to for more information. Contact with the antenn a affects call quality and may cause the ph one to operate at a hi gher power level than otherwi se needed.
1 - 5 Display icons and indicators If the hour you entered was not in 24-hour format, you are prompted to confirm if the time entered is AM or PM: To set the date: To change time an d date settings refer to “Setting up your agenda” on page 3-31. 1 - 6 Making calls MAKING CALL S Y OUR FIRST CALL ANSWERING CALLS When you receive an incoming call, by def ault, a ringing tune is played and a call message is displayed. If enabled, your Vertu pho ne also vibrates. ADJUSTING VOLUME ENDING OR REJECTING CALLS LAST NUMBER RED IAL > Check the signal strength in dicator.
1 - 7 Emergency calls CALLING Y OUR VOICE MAILBOX Voicemail is a network service for re ceiving voice messages that may be offered by your s ervice provider. To use the VOICEMAIL ke y to listen to your voice messages, the voice mailb ox number must be stored in your Vertu phone.
1 - 8 Keypad lock KEYPAD LOCK You can lock the k eypad on your Vertu phone to prevent the keys being operated accide ntally, for example when it is i n your pocket or bag. LOCKING THE KEYPAD RECEIVING A CALL Your Vertu phone keypad lock is automatically suspended when you rece ive an incoming call .
1 - 9 Vertu Concierge VERTU CONCIERGE Vertu Concierge is an exclusive service for peop le who believe that qual ity matters. Our aim is to bring you only the very best, w hether it be music, art, travel or food.
2 - 1 Memory types 02 THE DIRECTORY The directory acts as a personal phone boo k with a potential capacity for up to 1,000 entries. MEMORY TYPES Names and numbers can be stored in both the phone memory and the SIM card memory, but only one memory can be used at a time.
2 - 2 Setting up your di rectory SETTING UP YOUR DIRECTORY Your Vertu phone allows you to add multip le items to directory entries, and allows you to change how your directory displays the entries.
2 - 3 Setting up your di rectory MUL TIPLE ITEMS IN A DIRECTORY ENTRY (Phone memory only) The first number added to an entry in the directory is automatically set as the default number. When you select an en try from the directo ry to make a call or send a message to, this default number is always used.
2 - 4 Setting up your di rectory A DDING TEXT TO AN ENTRY To add a text item to a directory entry: C HANGING THE DEFAULT NUMBER The first number added to a name in the directory is automatically set as the default number.
2 - 5 Using your directory SET TING THE DIRECTORY VIEW Your Vertu phone can display the entries in your directory in two ways. name list displays three names at a time, name & number displays one name at a time along with its default number.
2 - 6 Using your directory To search for an entry and call a number other than the default number (phone memory only): SENDING TEXT MES SAGES You can send a text messa ge to someone using the options i n the directory menu. For more information on sending text messages, see “Writing and send ing text messages” on page 3- 3.
2 - 7 Using your directory BUSINESS CARDS The business card fu nction allows you to send and receive a perso n’s contact in formation as a text message.
2 - 8 Organising you r directory ASSIGNING NUMBERS TO THE SPEED DIAL LIST The directory allows you to program your speed dial list easily usin g the speed dial opt ion in the options submenu.
2 - 9 Organising you r directory C OPYING INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES You can also cop y individual directory entries between the phone memory and SIM card memory directly fr om the list of names in your directory. To copy individual entr ies: Either > Press select .

3 - 1 03 THE MENUS Your Vertu phone offers an extensive range of functions that are organ ised in a series of submenus as listed below. *For more information refer to "Chapter 06 Security in formation ". Some of the features or functions on your Vertu phone are only available at the discretion of your service provider.

3 - 7 Messages P REDICTIVE TEXT INPUT Predictive text reduces the number of key presses required to key in a word. As you key in characters , predictive text attempts to match the characters to a word in the built-in di ctionary. Before you can use predictive text input, you must select the language for predictive text.
3 - 8 Messages To insert the desired word into your text message and add it to the predictive text dictionary: To confirm a word by inserting a space: To confirm a word wi thout inserting a space: To confirm a word by inserting a sy mbol, for example a full stop, comma or currency symbol: > Press spell .
3 - 9 Messages P REDICTIVE TEXT INPUT OPTIONS When writing o r editing a t ext message using predictive text input, the options are the same as for basic text in put, with two add itions.
3 - 10 Messages M ESSAGE READING OPTIONS While reading a text message stored in the inbo x folder, outbox fold er, ar chive folder, or any personal folders in the personal folders folder, several options are availab le and are accessed as follows: erase Erase the text mess age.
3 - 11 Messages > If the name in your directo ry has multip le numbers associated with it, scroll to the desired number and press ok . > Repeat the last three steps for all remaining recipients. > Press done when you have finished. 3 - 12 Messages T EXT MESSAGE FOLDERS All text messages stored in your Ve rtu phone are organised in fo lders. I NBOX Text messages are automatically stored in th e inbox folder wh en they are first re ceived, and remain in th e inbox folder until you move or d elete them.
3 - 13 Messages A RCHIVE The archive fold er is a place to store text message s that you want to save for a long time. The archive folder holds your text messages unti l you erase them. To access the arc hive folder: T EMPLATES The templates folder contains a l ist of pre-written standard messages for sendin g or replying to text messages.
3 - 14 Messages P ERSONAL FOLDERS You can create your own folders for storing and organising text message s, and then rename or erase them as required. To access the personal folders submenu: The first time you access the personal folders submenu, the fol der will be empty and add folder is the only option availab le.
3 - 15 Messages E RAS ING MULTIPLE TEXT MESSAGES You can erase all text messages you have read from any of the st andard or personal folders, or from all the folde rs at once. MESSAG E SETTIN GS When you write or repl y to a text message, your Vertu phone uses a default message profile.

3 - 17 Call register CALL REGISTER The call register feature allows you to view information about calls that yo u have missed, recei ved and made. To access the call register feature: Several options .
3 - 18 Call register When viewing calls in t he missed c alls , re ce iv e d calls and dialled num bers call lists, several options are available and are accessed as follo ws: time of call V iew the time and date of the call. > Press opt ions . time of call is highli ghted.

3 - 20 Profiles PROFILES The pr ofiles feature allows you to set up different audible alerts. Six profiles are availabl e on your Vertu phone. PROF ILE ICONS To help you identify which profile is active, one of the followin g icons appear in the stand-by display, below the signal streng th indicator.
3 - 21 Profiles ringing tune Set the ringing tune your V ertu phone uses to alert you of an incoming call. > Scroll t o ringing tune . > Press select . > Scroll through the ringing tunes, pausing at each name to hear the tune. > Scroll to the des ired ringing tune.
3 - 22 Profiles RENAMING A PROFILE automatic answer Set whether calls are answered automatically when the headset is connected. Only available i n the headset profile. > Scroll t o automatic answer . > Press select . > Scroll t o on or off . > Press ok .
3 - 23 Settings SETTINGS The settings feature allows you to set up your Vertu phone to your preference. ALARM CLOCK You can use the alarm cloc k function to s et an audible alert at a specified time during the next 24 hours. The alarm will sound, provided the time has been set on your Vertu phone and the battery is sufficiently charged.
3 - 24 Settings To unset the alarm at a ny time: CLO CK The clock is used on the stand-by display, and in several other fe atures on your Vertu phone , such as messages , call register , alarm clock and agenda . To show or hide the clock on the stand- by display: C HANGING THE TIME > From the stand- by display, press menu .
3 - 25 Settings S ETTING THE TIME FORMAT CALL SET TINGS The call settings submenu allows you to set up the way your Vertu phone operates when making and receiving calls. To access the call settings submenu: Several options are avail able and are accessed as follow s: > From the stand- by display, press menu .
3 - 26 Settings PHONE SET TINGS The phone settings submenu allows you to set up the language used on your Vertu pho ne, change the screen saver delay time and manage the way it interacts with the network.
3 - 27 Settings . scr een saver delay (mm:ss) The scre en saver is automati cally displayed aft er after a period of keypad inactivity . T o set the screen saver delay time: > Scroll t o screen saver delay (mm:ss) . > Press select . > Enter the d elay time in minutes and secon ds.
3 - 28 Settings COMMUNIC A TION SETTINGS The communication settings submenu allows you to set up some of the network services which may be offered by your service prov ider. To access the communic ation settings submenu: Several options are available and are accessed as follows: > From the stand- by display, press menu .
3 - 29 Settings SECURITY SET TINGS The security settings submenu allows you to set up the security features on your Vertu phone. For more information refer to “06 Security information” on page 6-1. RESTORE DEF A UL T SETTIN GS Reset all me nu settings that you have c hanged to the default settings set by Vertu at the manufacturing faci lity.
3 - 30 Call divert CALL DIVERT (Network service) The call divert feature redirects your incoming calls to another number, for example your voice mailbox number.
3 - 31 Agenda To set the delay for the divert if not available option: To cancel call divert options: AGENDA The agenda feature acts as a personal organiser that allows you to view a calendar and set reminders for forthcoming events or dates.
3 - 32 Agenda Several options are available and are accessed as follows: set the date Set the current date. > When you access the settings submenu, set the date is highlighted. > Press select . > Key in the date. > Use the SCROLL keys to toggle between the figures.
3 - 33 Agenda AGENDA OPTIONS In your agenda you can create new notes, set up how your agenda appe ars on the display and move easily to any date. To access the agenda feature: Several options are avai.
3 - 34 Agenda If you want an audible alert to sound before the agenda note time: If you want an audibl e alert to sound at the ag enda note time: If you do not want an audible alert to sound for the agenda note: C ALL AGENDA NOTE To create an agenda note to remind you of a call you are due to make at a specific time: > Press options .

3 - 36 Agenda A NNIVERSA RY AGENDA NOTE To create an agenda no te to remind you of an annual event, for example an anniversary or a birthday: If you want an alert to remind you before the day of the agenda note: > From the stand- by display, press menu .
3 - 37 Agenda If you want an alert to remind you on the day of the agenda note: If you do not want an audible alert to so und for the call: After you create an a nniversary agenda no te, your Vertu phone displays the date and title of the agenda note.
3 - 38 Agenda edit Change the details of the agenda note. > Press options . > Scroll t o edit . > Press select . Edit the agenda note as required. move Move the agenda note to another date and erase it from the selected date. > Press options .
3 - 39 Agenda send not e Send the agenda note to another phone. > Press options . > Scroll t o send note . > Press select . T o send the agenda note to another V ertu phone’s agenda: > Scroll t o as agenda note . > Press select . Either > Key in the reci pient ’ s number.
3 - 40 SIM services For more information on ed iting agenda notes see “Creating agenda not es” on page 3-33. A GENDA NOTE ALARMS At the specified time, an audible alert sound s and the alarm time and display lights flash , unless you have switched off warning tones.
4 - 1 Speed dialling 04 ADVANCED CALL FUNCTIONS Your Vertu phone co ntains advanced func tionality to use while maki ng calls. SPEED DIALLING Speed dialling al lows you to dial a number quickly and easily by pr essing and hold ing a single NUMBER key between 2 and 9 .

4 - 3 Speaker phone SPEAKER PHONE The speaker phone use s the internal speaker in your Vertu phone to allow you to have a hands-free phone call or allow people around y ou to participate in conversation.
4 - 4 Call waiting USING CALL WAITING When you have a ca ll in progress and you receive an incoming call, an audibl e alert can be heard. SWAPPING BETWEEN CALLS To switch between the active ca ll and the held call: ENDING ONE OF THE CALLS To end one of the calls: ENDING BOTH CALLS To end both calls at the same time: > Press options .
4 - 5 In call functions IN CALL FUN CTIONS While you are in a call, several functions are available from the options submenu: CALL HOLDIN G (Network service) Call holding al lows you to put a cal l on hold. The call remains active, but no communication can take place until you un hold the call.
4 - 6 In call functions MAKING MUL TIPL E CALLS You can make a call when you a lready have a call in progress. To make anoth er call while in a call: SWAPPING BETWEEN CALLS To switch between the active ca ll and the held call: ENDING ONE OF THE CALLS To end one of the calls: ENDING BOTH CALLS To end both calls at the same time: > Press options .
4 - 7 In call functions CONFERENCE CALLS (Network service) The conference call functio n can connect up to six calls, allowing e ach person to participate in a single co nversa tion.
4 - 8 Pause and wait commands PAUSE AND WAIT COMMANDS Pause and wait co mmands allow you t o automa te NUMBER key presses after a call has been connected, for example when navigating menus in an automated switchboard or accessing an answer phone system.

5 - 1 Headset 05 ACCESSORIES This section shows how to use accessories with your Vertu phone: > Headset > Charger and battery > Data cable (available separately) To optimise the performance and lif etime of your accessories, and protect your warranty coverage, observe the foll owing handling and usage precautions: > Keep dr y .
5 - 2 Charger CHARGER The charger recharges your Vertu phone battery quickly and safely by means of a powered AC outlet. The charger supplied with your Vertu phone should be appropriate for your region. However, you should always check that el ectrical rating of the AC outlet is appropriate for the charger before you attempt to p lug it in.
5 - 3 Data cable If not charging is displayed or ch arging has failed, try the foll owing: > Disconnect the c harger from the AC outlet. > Check that the electrical r a ting of the A C outlet is compatible with your c harger. > V erify that the AC outlet has power and that i t is switched on.
5 - 4 Battery INST ALLING V ERTU DA T A SUITE Vertu Data Suite allows you to back up and restore phone data, such as the directory and agenda, using a compatible computer. You can even synchronize with widely used ag enda and contact management applications such as Microsoft ® Outlook ® .
5 - 5 Battery > Gently pivot th e battery ( 04 ) from the bottom and lift it upwards and outwards from your V ertu phone. > If you do not re-insert the battery or insert another battery rig ht aw ay , insert the plastic placeholder ( 05 ) orig inally supplied wit h your V ertu phone before replacing the cover .
5 - 6 Battery info rmation BATTERY INFORMATI ON Your Vertu phone is powered by a rec hargeable battery. The full performance of a new battery is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. T he battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out.
6 - 1 Security features 06 SECURITY INFORMATION The security features on y our Vertu phone help prevent unauthorised use of your phone and SIM card. SECURITY FEATURES You can activate a nd change some security features yourself. T hese are marked “User code” in this chapter.
6 - 2 Security features call barr ing serv ice (Network service) Restrict incoming and outgoing calls. C all barrin g service has six settin gs. Select outgoing c alls to bar all outgoin g calls. Select international calls to bar all in ternation al calls made from yo ur home country .
6 - 3 Security code SECURITY CODE (User code) The security code helps protect your Vertu phone from unauthorised use. You need to key in the security code before you can do the following: > Switch on th e phone when a new S I M card is inser ted . > Erase the contents of your directory .
6 - 4 Security level SECURITY LEVEL (User code) The security level function allows you to spe cify when you will be required to key in the security code. CHANGING THE SECU RITY LEVEL l PIN CODE (User code) The PIN code helps protect you r SIM card against unauthorised use.
6 - 5 PIN code ACTIV A TING THE PIN CODE CHANGING THE PIN CO DE To change your PIN code: > From the stand- by display, press menu . > Scroll t o settings . > Press select . > Scroll t o security settings . > Press select . PI N code request appears.
6 - 6 Call barring service CALL BARRING SERV ICE (Network service) The call barring service allows you to restrict the incoming and outgoi ng calls that you specify. SET TING UP THE CALL BARRING SERVICE To set up the call barring service: To cancel call barring opti ons: You need to key in the barring password to set up the call barring service.
6 - 7 Fixed dialling FIXED DIALLING (Network service) The fixed dialling feature allo ws you to restrict outgoing calls to numbers you specify. SET TING UP FIXED DIALLING To set up fi xed dialling : CLOSED USER GROUP (Network service) The closed user group feature allows you to specify a group of people you can call and who can call you.
7 - 1 Short-cuts 07 SHORTCUTS, ICONS AND SCREEN SAVER SHORT-CUTS Use the foll owing keypad short-cuts on your Vertu phone to accelerate access to common functions and reduce multiple keypad presses to a singl e button.
7 - 2 Display icons DISPLAY ICONS Display icons help you id entify at a glance the status of your Vertu ph o ne. Some of the features and functions descri bed below are network dependent. BA T TERY AND SIGNAL ICONS The battery charge and signal strength icons appear at the top of the display.
7 - 3 Display icons A LARM CLOC K ICON The alarm clock icon appears on the right of th e display when y ou have set an alarm using your Vertu phone’s alarm clock. A CTIVE LINE ICONS Active line ic ons only appe ar if your SIM car d has two lines enabl ed.
7 - 4 Display icons T EXT INPUT ICONS One or more of the following icons may appear when you are keying in text, for example when writing a text message or adding a dire ctory entry. PROF ILE ICONS The followi ng profile ic ons appear besid e the profile names, to h elp you identify whi ch profile to choose.
7 - 5 Screen saver SCREEN SAVER The screen saver is designed to maintain the quality of your Vertu phone's displ ay throughout its lifetime. It ensures that t he contents of your di splay are regularly updated and av oids leaving any pixels (such as those that form the charge or signal strength icons) in a constant ly acti ve state.

8 - 1 Safety information 08 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SAFETY INF ORMATION T RAFFIC SAFETY Do not use a hand-held telephon e while driving a vehicle. If using a hand -held phone park the vehicle before using the phone in any way. Do not place the phone on the passenger seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop.
8 - 2 Specifications Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases or explosive materials in the same compartment as the phone, its parts or a ccessories.
8 - 3 Care and maintena nce CARE AND MAIN TENANCE Your Vertu products have been crafted from some of the finest materi als and care should b e taken to keep them in good condition. CERAMICS AND SA PPHIRE Ceramics and sapphire are very hard materials bu t are also brittle and c an be scratched by harde r materials or objects.
