Setting Up and Adjusting YourPhone SETTING UP DESK/TABLETOP INST ALL ATION 1) Plug the A C adapter cord into the 9 VDC input jack on the back of the base. Place the power cord so that it does not create a trip hazard or become c hafed and create a fire or electrical hazard .
W ALL INSTALL ATION ▼ Standard wall plate mounting This phone can be mounted on a standard A T&T or GTE wall plate. T o attach the wall mount adapter to the base: 1) Slide the wall mount adapter into the notches at the top of the base. 2) Pivot the w all mount adapter down and snap into place.
▼ Direct W all Mounting If you do not hav e a standard w all plate, you can mount your phone directly on a w all. Before doing this, consider the follo wing: • Select a location away fr om electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location that could cause a hazard when inserting screws into the wall.
INSTALLIN G THE HANDSET BATTER Y P ACK 1) Press in on the battery cover r elease and slide the battery compartment cove r d own . 2) Put in the recharg eable Nick el-Cadmium batter y pack. The battery pack f its with the electrical contacts touching. The label side on the battery pack should be facing up.
Charging the Battery Pack continued ▼ Low batter y indicator When the battery pack is ver y low and needs to be charged, the phone is programmed to eliminate functions to save po wer . If the phone is not in use, the talk LED flashes ever y 3 seconds, and none of the buttons will operate.
ADJUSTING RIN GER CONTROLS ▼ Ringer tone and volume With no call in progress, pr ess ringer . The phone has 3 ringer tones with 2 volume lev els - one sof t and one loud. Each time you pr ess ringer , the ringer tone chang es. Each time you pr ess volume , the ringer v olume changes.
RINGER ON OR OFF The ringer is on when the switch is in the RING ON position. T o turn off the ringer , move the switch to the B A TT SA VE position. No w , when a call comes in, the talk LED will flash but the ringer will be silent. P A GE/FIND T o locate the handset while it’s off the base, press page on the base.

CHAIN DIALING On certain occasions, af ter dialing a number , you may be requested by the party or service y ou are calling to enter a special access code, such as an account number . Y ou can enter this number into a memory location. 1) Store the access code into one of the memory numbers.
Programming YourPhone’s Memory VOICEDIAL PROGRAMMING HANDSET SPEAKER PHONE The handset speak er phone lets you conv eniently listen to the voice pr ompts through the handset speak er phone rather than the earpiece.
V OICE MEMORY ENTR Y TIPS V oiceDial is “speak er (voice) dependent” - it’s designed to recognize the v oice that programmed the name. If you program a memory location for “pizza delivery” and another person tries to V oiceDial “pizza delivery ,” the phone may not recognize the new v oice.
STORING A PHONE NUMBER IN MEMOR Y With V oiceDial, programming is easy . Just follow the preprogrammed v oice prompts. 1) Remo ve the handset from the base. 2) Press store . The talk LED blinks and the monitor LED lights. Y ou will hear: F or example: Press 0, then 1 .
STORING A MIXED MODE NUMBER If your phone service is set up f or pulse dialing, you can stor e a mixed mode number to easily access automated services (such as banking) that require tones within their systems. 1) Remo ve the handset from the base. 2) Press store .

REVIEWING NUMBERS IN MEMOR Y 1) Press rev . The talk LED flashes. 2) Y ou will hear: F or example: Y ou’ve programmed John Smith’s phone number , 555-5555, into memory location 0 1. Press . Y ou will hear: 3) T o dial the announced number , simply pr ess talk befor e you hear the last digit.
Using the Integrated Answer Device USING ANSWER THE INTEGR ATED ANSWERING DEVICE The EXV 958 has a built-in answering system that answ ers and recor ds incoming calls.
SETTING THE CLOCK The clock on the EXV 958 Answering System starts when pow er is applied to the base. Follo w these steps to set the clock to the correct time: 1) Press and hold cloc k until a beep sounds. 2) Press skip/repeat until the correct day is announced.
5) Press cloc k again to select the correct hour . 6) Press skip/repeat until you hear the corr ect minute setting. The numbers 0 through 59 display on the base as each minute is announced. 7) Press cloc k again to select the correct minute. The AM/PM setting is announced.

SETTING Y OUR OUTGOING MESSA GE (OGM) When you r eceive a call, the answering system automatically plays a preset messag e or your own personal outgoing message. ▼ Preset messages The follo wing message is pre-r ecorded at the factory: “Hello, no one is available to take your call.
SELECTING MESS A GE TIME Y ou can set your answ ering system to recor d messages up to one or four minutes long. One minute option: mov e the REC TIME switch to 1. F our minute option: move the REC TIME switch to 4 . MEMO The Memo function allows the user to r ecord a message on the base.
SELECTING A PIN CODE T o play your messag es from a remote location, y ou will need to enter a two-digit P ersonal Identification Number (PIN) code (00-99). T o select a PIN, perform the f ollowing steps: 1) On the base, press and hold the pin button.
SETTING THE TOLL S A VER SWITCH The ringtime/toll saver switch allows y ou to set the number of rings the caller hears befor e your answ ering system plays your outgoing messag e. Y ou can set the switch to answer after two rings or af ter four rings.
Using the Integrated Answering Device USING ANSWER PL AYIN G Y OUR MESSA GES The base LED shows the number of total messag es on the display . If the display is blinking, then there are new messages w aiting for y ou. The EXV 958 is designed to play your new messag es first.
REPEATIN G A MESSA GE 1) Press play/stop to review your messag es. The number of stored messages is announced. 2) After a message has played f or a few seconds, press repeat to replay the message. 3) Press play/stop at any time to stop reviewing your messag es and return to standby .
SKIPPING A MESS A GE 1) Press play/stop to review y our messages. The number of messages is announced. 2) Press skip at anytime to skip to the next message. 3) Press play/stop at any time to stop reviewing messages and r eturn to standby . The message counter LED shows the total number of messages still on the system.
DELETING A MESS A GE 1) Press play/stop to review y our messages. 2) If you decide to delete a message, pr ess and release delete anytime during the message. The system beeps and immediately goes to the next message. T o delete all messages, press delete from standby and hold for 2 seconds.
REMOTE A CCESS A W AY FR OM HOME Y ou can operate your answ ering system from a remote location using any touch-tone telephone. Use this function to check for r ecorded messages, to play or delete messag es, or even to r ecord a new outgoing message. 1) Call your telephone number .
