DESK/TABLETOP INST ALL ATION 1) Plug the A C adapter cord into the DC input jack on the back of the base, then place the A C adapter cord inside the molded strain relief. 2) Plug one end of the long telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the base, then place the telephone cord into the right molded channel cord holder .
4) Plug the A C adapter into a standard 1 20 V AC w all outlet. 5) Raise the antenna to a vertical position. W ALL INSTALLATION t Setting the Handset Retainer f or W all Mounting 1) Remo ve the handset r etainer on the base by sliding it upw ard. 5 HINT Before using y our phone, fully charge the Nick el- Cadmium battery pack for 1 5-20 hours.
2) Flip the handset retainer o ver so the tab is facing up. 3) Slide the handset retainer back onto the base. t Standard W all Plate Mounting This phone can be mounted on any standard telephone w all plate.
3) Plug the other end of the cord into the wall jack. (R emember , the phone must be fully c harged bef ore you can use it.) 4) Place the base on the two posts of the wall plate and slide it do wnw ard to secure. 5) Plug the A C adapter into a standard 1 20 V A C wall outlet that is not controlled by a w all switch.
t Direct W all Mounting If you don’t hav e a standard w all plate, you can mount y our phone directly to the w all. Befor e mounting your cor dless telephone, consider the follo wing: • Select a location away fr om electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location.

INSTALLIN G THE HANDSET BA TTER Y P A CK 1) Remo ve the handset battery cov er by pressing in on the co ver release and sliding it do wnwar d. 2) Plug the battery’s cable into the handset. 3) Slide the battery cover on until it snaps into place. 11 Use only the Uniden battery (BT-905) supplied with y our phone.
CHARGIN G THE BATTER Y P A CK t Initial batter y charging Befor e plugging the phone line into your new phone f or the first time, fully charge the r echargeable battery pack for 1 5-20 hours without interruption. 1) Place the handset on the base. 2) Mak e sure that status LED lights.
SETTING THE PULSE/TONE SWITCH Be sure the PUL SE/T ONE switch is in the T ONE position unless your local phone system uses pulse dialing. ADJUSTING THE RIN GER AND V OLUME CONTROLS t Handset Ringer T one and V olume Y our EXI 7960 lets you choose from two ring er tones, Type A and T ype B.
USING THE P A GE FEATURE 1) T o locate the handset when it is not on the base, press and release the page/find ke y. 2) The handset beeps for 60 seconds and the follo wing screen appears: 3) Once you hav e found the handset, pr ess any k ey to end the pag e.
Using YourNew Phone MAKING AND RECEIVIN G CALLS Handset On Base Handset Off Base T o answer a call Pick up the handset (AutoT alk) or press talk . Press any button (Autotalk) or press talk . T o mak e a call 1) Pick up the handset. 2) Press talk . 3) Listen for the dial tone.
STORING A PHONE NUMBER IN MEMOR Y 1) Remo ve the handset fr om the base. 2) Press and hold mem for tw o seconds. A short tone will sound and the follo wing screen appears. 3) Use the : and ; k eys or number keypad to choose the memory location where y ou would lik e to enter a number.
EDITING A PHONE NUMBER IN MEMOR Y F ollow these steps to edit a phone number that y ou have alr eady programmed into memory . 1) Remo ve the handset fr om the base. 2) Press and hold mem for tw o seconds. The display shows the Memory Store screen and any sav ed numbers.
9) Press select. The handset beeps and displays a confirmation screen. For example, if y ou store a name and number into memory location number one, then the handset shows Memory 1 Stored . 1 0) The display then returns to the Memory Store screen. Y ou may select another number to edit (return to step 3) or y ou may press mem to return to standby .
8) Press select . There is a confirmation tone, and the handset displays Memory 1 Deleted . 9) The display then returns to the Memory Store screen. Y ou may select another number to delete (return to step 3) or y ou may press mem to return to standby .
3) When you need to enter the special number , press mem fol l owed by the memory location (0-9). USING CALLER ID Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID from your phone com pany in order to use this feature . t Setting Up Caller ID Options There are thr ee Caller ID setup options available; Autotalk, CIDCW , and Area Code.
2) Use the : and ; k eys to mov e the cursor to the selection that you would lik e to change. Press the select k ey to toggle between On and Off for Autotalk and CIDCW . Press select and use the number k eypad to enter or change the ar ea code, then press select again.
t Reviewing Caller ID N umbers Y our phone stores the most recent 30 numbers in Caller ID memory . If the memory is full, a new call replaces the oldest number . T o review your Caller ID numbers, f ollow the steps belo w . 1) Press call id , and the Caller ID summary screen appears.
t Storing a Caller ID Number Into a Memory Location 1) Press call id , and the Caller ID summary screen appears. The screen shows the number of new callers and the total number of callers stored in Caller ID memory. 2) Press ; or : to find the number that you w ould lik e to store, then press mem to store the selection.
3) Press delete , and the follo wing screen appears. 4) Press select or delete . A confirmation tone sounds and the Caller ID screen returns with the next messag e displayed. 5) After you have deleted the Caller ID number , the display shows End . Press call id to return to standby .
USING REDIAL Press redial/p to call the last number dialed. The number redialed can be up to 32 digits long. If you pr ess redial/p befor e pressing the talk k ey , you can edit the number using the delete ke y. USING THE TONE FEA TURE If you ar e dialing in the pulse mode and need to enter tone digits, press tone to enter the digits.
TR A VELING OUT -OF -R ANGE During a call, as you begin to mo ve too f ar from y our base unit, noise increases. If y ou pass the range limits of the base unit, y our call will terminate within 20 seconds.
