11 Thro tt l e Co n tro l Leve r The throt tle con trol leve r is loca ted on the r ight side of the tracto r ’ s dash panel. Thi s leve r contro ls the sp eed of the e ngine. When s et in a gi ven pos ition, t he thrott le will main tain a unif orm engin e speed.
12 Systems Indicator M onitor / Hour Meter Your tr actor is equippe d with four i ndicator lights and an hour meter located on the left side of the dash panel. See Figu re 7. Figure 7 If the Brake light or PTO light illu minates whe n attempting to start the unit, pr oceed as follo ws: Brake — Engage the pa rking br ake.
13 Deck Lift Lever Found on your tra ctor ’ s righ t fender, th e deck li ft lever is used to chan ge the height of the cuttin g deck. To use , move the lev er to the left, then place in the notch best suite d for your applicati on.
14 WARN ING: Keep hands and feet away from the dischar ge opening of the cutt ing deck. NOTE: The deck wh eels ar e an anti- scalp fe atur e of the de ck and are not designed to su pport the weigh t of the cutti ng dec k. Refer to Leve ling the De ck on page 17 of this man ual for more detai led inst ructio ns regar ding variou s deck adjustme nts.
15 • Watch for hol es, ruts , bumps, rock s, or other hidden o bjects. Unev en terr ain co uld o verturn the mach ine. Tall gr ass c an hide obst acles. • Avoid turns when dr iving on a s lope. If a turn m ust be made, turn down the sl ope. Turnin g up a slop e greatly increas es the chan ce of a roll over.
16 • Keep the bl ades shar p and repla ce the blades when wor n. Refer to Cutt ing Bl ades on page 23 of this manual for proper blade sharpeni ng inst ruction s. Operat ing The Headlights To turn the tracto r ’ s headlig hts on: • Start the engine follo wing the i nstruct ions earl ier in this section.
17 • Replace hex n ut and lock wa sher a nd reti ghten the jam nut af ter proper adj ustment is achieve d. NOTE: T hreadin g the ball j oints t oo far onto th e drag links wil l cause the front tires to "toe- in" too far. Prop er toe-in is betwe en 1/16" and 5/16".
18 Deck Roller Height Adjustment (Units with 50-inch Deck s) To adjust the he ight of the rol lers on the rea r of the mowing dec k, proceed as follows: • Place th e dec k lift l ever in the b ottom notc h (lowes t position ).
19 Air Clea ner Service th e pre-cl eaner, if s o equipped, an d cart ridge/ air cleaner el ement as ins tructed in the B riggs & Stratton Oper ator /Own er Man ual (or Kohler eng ine ’ s Owner ’ s Ma nual) pac ked with you r unit. Spark Plug s The spark plugs shou ld be cleane d and the gap reset once a season .
20 • After cl eaning the ba ttery and ter minals , apply a light c oat o f petrol eum jel ly or g rease to bot h terminals • Always keep the rub ber boot pos itioned ov er the positiv e terminal to pr event sho rting.

22 • Reroute th e new upper dr ive belt as shown in Figure 16. Lower Drive Belt NOTE: Proper remova l of the lower drive b elt requ ires the remov al of sever al tractor compo nents. Read through the following proc edure prior to attempting i t to determin e if you feel you could s uccessful ly compl ete it.
