With the f or ward clutch ca ble on th e inside of th e handl ebar, See Fig, 3-2, position the ha ndleb ar ends on th e out side of the t wo mo unting tabs s hown in Fig. 3 - 1 o n the transmissi on top cover . NOTE: T he cur ved ha ndleb ar heig ht adjustm ent bracket appe ars as show n in Fig.
Inser t the c able i nto the slot on the contr ol pane l and f it the threa ded asse mbly into the h ole in the s lot. Be su re that the f lat side o f the thread ed assem bly is ali gned wi th the f lat side o f the hol e. Slide the h ex nut up th e cable a nd tighten it se curel y .

Engaging the Drive & Tines For for war d motion of th e whee ls and tine s: Pull one o r both of the For w ard Clutch Control Levers up an d hold th em agains t the handl ebar s. T o s top the for w ard motio n of the whe els and tin es, releas e the lever s.
With the ti ller ba lanced, p ush sideways on th e handl ebar to move the till er in the dir ec tion of the turn. S ee Fig. 5 - 4. Af ter comp leting th e turn, sl owly lower the ti nes into the soil a nd increas e the engin e spe ed.
Suggested tilling pa t terns When p repar ing a see dbe d, go over the s ame path t wice in the f irs t row , th en overlap on e -hal f the tille r width on th e rest of t he passes . See Fig . 5-5. When f inis hed in o ne direc tio n, make a seco nd pass at a right ang le as shown in Fi g.

Adjustments Wheel Gear Cable When th e Whee l Gear Lever is i n DISENGAGE, the whe els will r oll fre ely (fre ewhee l). The whe els shou ld not ro ll free ly whe n the lever is in ENGAGE . If the whe els ro ll fre ely whe n the Whe el Gea r Lever is in ENGAGE, the wh eel g ear cabl e nee ds to be adjus ted as descr ibed b elow.
Follow the se steps if t he for ward cl utch control ne eds adjust ment. Befo re adjus ting the b elt, shut o f f engin e, allow the en gine and muf f l er to cool dow n, disconne c t the spark p lug wire, and rem ove the ignitio n key on ele ctr ic sta r t mode ls.
Revers e belt te nsion adjus tment s are done w ith the revers e clutch cable a djuster l ocated o n the lef t s ide of the machine n ear the engi ne. Use t wo ⁄ ” ope n- en d wrench es to loose n the t wo adjuste r jam nuts a f ew turns. S ee Fig.
Belt Replacement Forward Clutch Belt Stop the engin e, allow it to cool a nd disconne c t the spark plug w ire bef ore work ing nea r the bel ts. Remove the t wo nut s and rem ove the belt cover . Re fer to Fig. 6 - 8 in the Mai ntenance & Adjustm ents Se ct ion.
Slip the b elt of f th e front of th e transmissio n pulley. See Fig. 7-4. Work the be lt out fr om bet we en the pull ey and the f rame, aroun d the transmissi on cover spring , then up and o ut of the machin e.
Inser t the b elt dow n into the fro nt of the transmissi on housin g. Slip the top ha lf of the b elt onto the r everse id ler arm pul ley . Pull the be lt downward a nd loo p the bot tom hal f of the bel t around th e front gro ove of the transmiss ion pull ey .
Replacing a Singl e Tine Remove the t wo screw s and nuts t hat att ach a singl e tine to the tine ho lder. If need ed, us e pene trating oil to h elp fre e the nuts . See Fig . 7 -9. When i nstalli ng a singl e tine, be sur e to positio n it so that its cut tin g edge w ill enter the so il f irs t as the tiller m oves for ward .
