4 Do not operate where aerosol ( spra y ) products are being used or where o xygen is being administered. Doing so could cause a fi re. Use an A C 220 to 240 V power source.
5 Do not repair , disassemble or modify except what is mentioned in the instruction manual. Doing so could cause an electric shock, a fi re or an injur y . Do not drop or insert any f oreign objects into any openings such as opening space when y ou remove the face cover and / or the outer casing space of bobbin case.

11 Bef ore use • Using the presser f oot pressure adjustment knob Ú Equipped only with model XXX34 By tur ning the presser f oot pressure adjustment knob at the top of the sewing machine , the amount of pressure applied by the presser f oot can be adjusted.

13 Prepare the f oot controller . Inser t the power cord connector into the ter minal bo x. Inser t the power plug into the outlet. The pow er is tur ned on. 1 2 3 • Connecting the po wer Do not touch the po wer plug with wet hands. Doing so could cause an electric shock.
14 • Installation of batter y f or winding the low er thread 3 1 Open the batter y holder cov er in the direction of the arrow . 2 Install the batter y while confi rming polarity of it. Attach batter y holder cov er . Note: Refer to page 48, 49 when purc hasing or changing batteries.
15 • Winding the lo wer thread Use a T O Y O T A-exclusiv e bobbin. The e xclusive motor driv en by a batter y winds the low er thread. 1 3 Pull the thread from the thread spool. Suppor t the thread on the sewing machine with one hand, using the other hand pass the thread around the thread guide as shown in the diag ram.
16 6 7 4 F rom the inside, pass the thread end through the hole in the bobbin, as sho wn. Place the bobbin on to the thread winding spindle so the groo ve will meet the shaft projection. Hold the thread end, and push the thread winding s witch to the left to star t winding.
17 4 • Threading the lo wer thread Caution Before inserting the bobbin, remove the po wer plug from the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . 1 T ake off the bob bin case cov er by sliding it tow ards yourself . Pull bobbin case co ver f orward and lift to remov e.
18 • Threading the upper thread Caution Before threading the upper thread, remove the power plug fr om the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . 1 T ur n the handwheel tow ard you to r aise the take-up le ver to its highest position. The line on the handwheel should be at the top , as shown.
19 6 P ass the thread between the thread guide plate and the upper thread tension dial. 7 P ass the thread along the groo ve of the thread guide plate, as the arro w in the diagram. P ass the thread through the take-up le ver . 8 P ass the thread through the right side needle thread guide.
20 • Using the needle threader Caution Before using the needle threader , remove the power plug fr om the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . 1 T ur n the handwheel so that the line is at the top , as shown in the illustration. 2 3 Raise the presser f oot lev er .
21 6 Loosen the tension on the thread, and slowly return the needle threader lev er f orward as much as possib le. After checking that the thread has passed through the ey e of the needle, release the needle threader le ver while releasing the end of the thread.
22 • Pulling up the lo wer thread 1 2 Pull up the upper thread and the loop of the low er thread will come out. Pull out this low er thread. 3 Align the upper thread and low er thread, and thread through the groo ve of the presser f oot. Pull back about 15 cm.

25 2 • Changing the presser f oot Caution Before c hanging the presser foot, remove the power plug fr om the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . Remov al 1 3 Press the presser f oot holder le ver in the direction of the arro w to release the presser f oot.

27 2 • Changing the needle Caution Before c hanging the needle, remo ve the power plug from the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . Be sure to dispose of broken needle in a saf e manner . Not doing so could cause an injur y . 1 T ur n the handwheel tow ards yourself to raise the point of the needle higher than the needle plate.
28 • Relationship between the needle , thread and f abr ic , and adjusting the thread tension The quality of the sewing fi nish will improv e if the needle and thread are changed to match the type of f abr ic. F ollow the directions in the tab le below .
29 • Straight stitching and re v erse sewing Caution Straight stitch 1 3 2 P osition the fabric under the presser f oot, and then lower the presser f oot lev er . Step on the f oot controller to begin sewing. 56 Zigzag sewing f oot T ur n the handwheel tow ards yourself to r aise the needle.
30 Thread cutter on the presser bar Line up the two threads , and then cut them with the thread cutter on the presser bar . Re verse se wing is perf or med while pressing down the re verse se wing lev er . • Stitch 1 cm from the edge of the f abr ic to pre vent unr av eling at the star t of sewing.

33 14 15 1 2 • Zigzag sewing There are v ar ious zigzag applications, such as applique and ov ercasting. 3 P osition the fabric under the presser f oot, and then lower the presser f oot. Step on the f oot controller to begin sewing. Zigzag sewing f oot T ur n the handwheel tow ards yourself to r aise the needle.

35 • Buttonhole se wing Caution Before c hanging the presser foot, remove the power plug fr om the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . Buttonhole sewing to match the siz e of the button is possib le. F or stretch fabric or thin f abric, it is recommended to use a stabilizer f or a better buttonhole fi nish.
36 7 4 5 6 Raise the needle to the highest position, set the patter n dial to “4”, and sew 5 to 6 bar-tack stitches . Raise the needle to the highest position, set the patter n dial to “1”, sew the left side and stop at the line marked on the f abr ic.
37 8 Caution Use the buttonhole cutter to cut the center , making sure not to cut the stitches. Note: If a marking pin is put in the bar-tac k area it helps to prevent cutting the bar-tac k with the buttonhole cutter . • Use the b uttonhole adjustment screw to adjust the balance between the stitches (rear side).
38 10 15 • Ov ercasting This is a sewing method that pre vents unra veling at the edge of the f abr ic. 1 Zigzag sewing f oot 2 Right needle entr y point Raise the needle to its highest position, and then tur n the pattern selection dial to select stitch number 10 or 15.
39 • Zipper inser tion Caution Before c hanging the presser foot, remove the power plug fr om the outlet. Not doing so could cause an injur y . 6 Attach the zipper f oot. (Refer to “Changing the presser foot” on page 23.) Raise the needle to its highest position, and then tur n the pattern selection dial to select stitch number 6.
40 4 Sew until just bef ore the presser foot makes contact with the slider , and then stop the sewing machine . 5 T ur n the handwheel tow ards yourself to low er the needle into the fabric. Raise the presser f oot. Mov e the slider to the rear of the presser f oot, and fi nish the se wing.
41 1 2 • Blind hem stitching In this sewing method the stitch cannot be seen on the front of the f abr ic. F old back the cloth so that the f olded area protrudes by about 5 to 7 mm.
42 5 3 4 P osition the fabric so that the needle slightly catches the f old when the needle mov es to the left. Low er the presser foot and star t sewing. The par t of the stitch that catches the f old will be visible from the right side of the fabric.

45 2 • F eed dog and hook maintenance If the sewing machine mak es a loud noise or rotates slowly , or there could be thread waste or dust in the hook or f eed dog. P erform maintenance on the hook and the f eed dog. Do not use detergent, bleach, benzine, or thinner chemical c loths.
46 3 Attaching the Bobbin Case 1 Inser t the bobbin case from the front. The red mark a on the bobbin case should be in the position, as shown in the diagram. 2 Align the red mark a and b , and attach the needle plate with the projection c on the bobbin case positioned as sho wn in the diagram.
47 4 • Changing light b ulb W arning Before c hanging the light bulb, remove the power plug from the outlet and wait until the b ulb cools. Not doing so could cause a burn or electric shock. 1 Loosen the screw with a “+” screw driv er of your o wn, and take off the f ace cov er in the direction of the arrow .
