TOSHIBA M50 3-5 Getting Started Connecting the AC adapter Attach the AC adapter when you need to char ge the battery or you want to operate from AC power . It is also the fastest way to get started, be cause the battery pack will need to be charged before you can operate fr om battery power .
TOSHIBA M50 3-6 Getting Started Opening the display The display panel can be rotated in a wide range of angles for optimal viewing. 1. Push the display latch on the front of the computer . Opening the display 2. Lift the panel up and ad just it to the best viewing angle for you.
TOSHIBA M50 3-7 Getting Started Tu r n i n g o n t h e p o w e r Starting up for the first time When you first turn on the power , the compu ter's initial screen is the Windows ® XP Startup Screen Logo. Follow the on-scr een directions for each screen.

User’ s Manual 4-1 TOSHIBA M50 Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter gives informa tion on basic operat ions including using the T o uchPad, optical disc drives, the in ternal modem, LAN and wireless LAN. It also provides tips on caring for your computer and on heat dispersal.
TOSHIBA M50 4-2 Operating Basi cs The T ouch Pad has similar functions to a two-button mouse with a scroll wheel. For some functions, you can tap it instead of pressing a button. Using the internal modem This section describes how to setup the modem and use it to connect to other computer systems.

TOSHIBA M50 4-6 Operating Basi cs LAN The computer is equipped with networki ng har dware that supports Ethernet LAN (10megabits per second, 10BASE-T) and Fast Ether net LAN (100 megabits per second, 100BASE-TX). This section describes how to connect/disc onnect to a LAN.
TOSHIBA M50 4-7 Operating Basi cs Disconnecting the LAN cable T o disconnect the LAN cable, follow the steps below . 1. Pinch the lever on the connect or in the computer's LAN jack and pull out the connector . 2. Disconnect the cable f rom the LAN hub in the same manner .
TOSHIBA M50 4-8 Operating Basi cs B. Disable/Enable the W a ke-up On LAN feature Once configured as described above, you can disable/enable this fea ture through the following steps: 1. Within Windows, click [Start]->[Co ntr ol Panel]->[T oshi ba HWSetup] and then select the [LAN] tab.

Expre ss Media Player offe rs a 'quick play' f eature that e nables users to playback CD and DVD content without havi ng to use the main Windows operating system.

TOSHIBA M50 4-22 Operating Basi cs When writing or r ewriting Note the following when you write or rewrite a CD-R or CD-RW . ■ Always copy data fr om the hard disk drive to the CD. Do not use cut- and-paste as the original data will be lost if there is a write error .

Be careful to check the di sc for dirt or damage before you use it. ■ The actual number of r ewrites to CD-R W or DVD-RW /+RW/-RAM is affected by the quality of the disc and the way it is used.
