2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Ma nual is an important part of your new lawn tractor. It will help you assemble, pr epare and maintain the unit fo r best performance.
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES WARNING: This symbol points out import ant safety instructions which, if not followed, could endanger the personal safe ty and/or property of yourself and others. Read and follow all instruct ions in this manual before attemptin g to operate this machine.

Disenga ge blade(s), set parking brake, stop en gine and wait un til the blade(s) com e to a complete stop before removin g grass catcher, emptying grass, unclogging chute, re moving any grass or debris, or making any adjustments.
5 CHILDREN 1. Tragic a ccidents c an occur if the oper ator is not alert to the presence of children. Children are often attracted to the ma chine and the mowing activity . They do not under stand the dangers. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw them.
6 3. Periodically check to make sure the blades co me to complete stop within approxima tely five (5) seconds after operat ing the blade disengagement control. If the b lades do not stop within th e this time frame, your unit should be serv iced professionally by a Toro Service Dealer.
7 SECTION 2: SAFETY LABELS Safety labels found on your lawn tracto r are illustrated below (3/4 actual size). Always follow their inst ructions and head their warnings. Th e label part number is listed below each. If you discover a safety label is scratched, damage d or missing, order a replacement immediately.

9 SECTION 4: TRACTOR SET-UP Gas and Oil Fill-up The gasoline tan k is located under the hood and has a capacity of 3 gallons . Do not overfill. WARNING: Use extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable an d the vapors are explosive.
10 Tire Pre ss u re WARNING: Maximum tire pressure unde r any circumstances is 30 psi. Equal tire pressure should be maint ained at all times. The tires on your unit ma y be over-inflated for shipp ing purposes. Reduce the tire pressure before operating the tractor.
11 Setting the Gauge Wheels Tools Required (2) 9/16" wrenc hes Select the height posit ion of the cutting deck by placing the deck lift lever in any of the six dif ferent cutting height notches on the ri ght fender. Adjust the deck whee ls so that they are between ¼-in ch and ½-inch above the gr ound as follows.

13 Thr ottle / Choke Control The throttle/cho ke control is located on the right side of the tractor’s dash panel. This lever controls the spee d of the engine and, when pushed all the wa y forward, the ch oke control also. When set in a given positio n, the throttle will maintain a uniform engine speed.
14 Systems Indicator Monitor / Hour Meter LCD Located in the center of the tra ctor’s cons ole, the systems indicator monitor reco rds, and displays on its LCD, hours of trac tor operati on whenever the ign ition key is rotated out of the STOP po sition.
15 SECTION 6: OPERATING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR Safety Interlock System This tractor is equipped with a safet y interlock system for the protection of the ope rator. Before each use, check the safety interlock system f or proper operation. If the interlock system should ever malfunction, do not operate the t ractor.
16 Starting the Engine WARNING: Do not operate th e tractor if the interlock system is malfunctioning. This system was designed f or your saf ety and protection. NOTE: Refer to the TRACTOR SET-UP on page 9 of this manual for Gasolin e and Oil fill-up instructions.
17 Setting The Cruise Contr ol NOTE: The cruise contro l feature should only be utilized while traveling in the forward direction. • Slowly depress the dr ive pedal until the desired speed is achieved.
18 SECTION 7: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Ne ver atte mpt to make any adjustments while the engine is running, Seat Adjustment To adjust the position of the seat, loosen the two knobs on the bottom of th e seat. See Figure 9. Slide the seat forward or rearward as desired.
19 Side to Side If the cutting deck appe ars to be mowing unevenly, a side to side adjustment ca n be performed. Adjust if necessary as follows: • With the tractor parke d on a firm, level surface, place the deck lift lever in the top notch (highest position) and rotate bo th blades so that they are perpendicu lar with the tractor .
20 Steering Adjustment If the tracto r turns tigh ter in one dir ection than t he other, or if the ba ll joints are being repla ced due to damage or wear, the s teering drag links may need to be adju sted.
21 SECTION 8: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR NOTE: Refer to Maintenance Chart on page 28 for a reference of recommend ed maintenance intervals. WARNING: Before performing any maintenance or rep airs, disengage PTO, set parking brake, st op engine and remove ke y to prevent unint ended starting.
22 Lubrication WARNING: Before lubricatin g, repairin g, or inspecti ng, always d isengage PTO, se t parking brake, st op engine and remove ke y to prevent unint ended starting. Engine Refer to Engine on page 21 for instruction regarding all engine-related lub rication.
23 SECTION 9: SERVICE Tire s WARNING: Never exceed the maximum inflation pressure sh own on the sidewall of the tire. The recommende d operating tire pressure is approximately 1 0 psi for the rear tires and 1 4 psi for the front tires. Do not overinf late.
24 IMPORT ANT : When replacing the bla de, be sure to install the blade with th e side of the blade marked ‘‘Bottom’’ (or with a part number stamped in it ) facing the ground wh en the mower is in the op erating position. IMPORT ANT : Use a torque wrench to tighten the blade spindle hex flange nut to be tween 70 lbs-ft.
25 • Pull the deck suppor t pin outward to rele ase the deck from the de ck lift arm. See Figure 20. Figure 20 • Repeat the ab ove steps on the tractor’s right sid e. • Move the deck lift lever into the top notch to raise the deck lift arms up and ou t of the way.

27 SECTION 10: OFF-SEASON STORAGE Clean and lubricate the tr actor as instructed in Section 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR on page 21 of this manual before sto ring for an extended period. Engine If the engine will be out of service for tw o months or more, use the followin g storage procedure: • Clean the exterior surfac es of the engine.
