6 This Reference Guid e explains all you need to k now about you r new TomTom GO. If you want a quick r ead of the essentials , we recommend that yo u read the Get g oing chapter. This covers installation, switchi ng on, setting up an d planning your first rout e.

8 Installing in your car Use the supplied mou nt to install your Tom Tom GO in your ve hicle. Read the ins tructions about positioning your devi ce before you insta ll your GO. To install your GO, do the following: 1. Connect the suppli ed USB cable to th e mount.
9 You can also press the On/Off button for mo re than 2 seconds until you see the Sleep an d Turn Off buttons. Select S leep to make the devic e sleep. Tip : To send your navig ation device to sleep w hen the USB cable i s unplu gged or whenev er it is removed from the mou nt, go to Ba ttery settings in the Settings m enu.
10 Note : If you choos e not to send location informati on to us, you will no lo nger receive our services. This is because se rvices need to send th e location of your device to TomTom in order to receive the traffic informa tion related to w here you are.
11 About TomTom services TomTom services gi ve you real-time i nformation about traffic and sp eed cameras on your ro ute. To get TomTom services o n your GO you need to b e logged in to a MyTomTom account . The way you connect yo ur GO to TomTom se rvices depends on you r navigation device.
12 Important : You mi ght have additional costs wh en you use the inter net on your phone, es pecially if you are outside t he area covered by you r data plan.
13 Reconnecting your smartphone You do not need to do anything to recon nect your GO to yo ur phone. Your GO will rememb er your phone an d will find it auto matically when you have Personal Area Network (PAN) and B luetooth switched on a nd you are in range of your navigation device.
14 Unable to get a connection To check your con nection status to the inter net, select TomTom Services in the Main Menu. If your connection status is shown as offline, select Offline a nd follow the instructions.
15 The map view The map view is shown w hen you have no p lanned route. Yo ur actual location is shown as soon as your GO has found yo ur GPS location. You can use map view i n the same way as you might look a t a traditional paper ma p. You can move around the map usi ng gestures , and zoom using the z oom buttons.
16 1. Back button. This b utton returns the map to a n overview o f your whole route or, if no rout e is planned, moves th e map to put your current location at the cent re. 2. Switch view button . Select the switch vi ew button to change betw een the map vi ew and the guidance view.
17 When your GO starts a fter sleeping and yo u have a route plan ned, you are show n the guidance view with your current location. 1. Switch view button . Select the switch vi ew button to change between t he map view and the guidance view. 2. Zoom buttons.
18 7. Current location. This sym bol shows your curr ent location. Select th e symbol or the sp eed panel to open the quick menu . Note : If your GO ca nnot find your loca tion using GPS or other met h ods, the symbol appears grey. 8. Route bar. The route bar is s hown when you have plan ned a route.
19 the symbols. For a complete list o f incident types, see Traffi c incidents . The bottom of the rout e bar represents you r current locatio n and shows the distance to t he next incident on your rou te. In addition, you can choose to see the cur rent time if you swi tch the setting on.
20 Search Select this button to search for an address , a place or a Point of Inter est, then plan a ro ute to that locati on. Drive Home Select this button to drive to your home location . If this button is not included in your mai n menu, go to My Places to s et up you home locatio n.
21 My Routes Select this button to show your saved routes . Parking Select this button to find car parks . Petrol Station Select this button to find p etrol stations . Voice Control Select this button to start voice control . Tip : You can also say the wake-up phrase to start voice cont rol.
22 Select this button to return to the previ ous screen. Select this button to return to the map view or guida nce view . This symbol shows the sta tus of the Bluetoo th connection whe n you use a smartphone to co nnect to TomTom services . This symbol shows the power level of th e battery in yo ur GO.
23 This button shows that t he display is using night co lours. Select the butt on to increase the brigh tness of the screen and display t he map in brighter colours. Volume control On the map or guida nce view, select th e Main Menu button to op en the Main Men u.
24 Tap or select Tap a single finger o n the screen. Example of when to use this: Selecting an item in the Main Menu . Tip : To open a pop -up menu for an item o n the ma p, select and hold the item until the menu opens.
25 About TomTom Traffic TomTom Traffic is a u nique TomTom service providin g real -time traffic informati on. For more information about Tom Tom services, go to tomtom.
26 The arrival informati on panel shows the fo llowing information: The estimated ti me that you will arrive at your d estination. The length of time to drive to the destinatio n from your current location. A parking button i s shown near the destinati on flag when parki ng is available near your destination.
27 Tip : Select an incident o n the map to see mo re detailed information . 1. Traffic incident that a ffects your route in y our dire ction of travel. A symbol or number at t he start of the inci dent shows the ty pe of incident or the de lay in minutes, for exam ple 5 minutes.
28 To get more informati on about an incident , select an incide nt in the route b ar. The map opens zoomed in on the in cident and a pop -up opens showin g detailed information a bout the traffic incident.
29 Unknown incident Roadworks Lane closure Road closure Advanced Lane Guidance Note : Lane guidan ce is not available for a ll junctions or in all countries . Advanced Lane G uidance helps yo u prepare for motorwa y exits and junctions by showing the correct driving lane for your p lanned route.
30 Important : The sp eed limit shown in t he speed panel i s only an indicat ion. You m ust always obey the actual speed limit fo r the road you are on an d the conditions you ar e driving in.
31 About TomTom MyDrive TomTom MyDrive is the easy way to set a desti nation, share locati ons and favourites, and sa ve your personal navigatio n information. MyDrive sync hronises your TomTom GO wi th your My Drive account. You can use M yDrive in a web brows er on a computer or as a mobile app on a sma rtphone or tablet.
32 Tip : You can search for a d estination or you can mov e the map and sel ect a destinatio n. You can also select a desti nation from Recent Desti nations in the Main Men u or your My Places list. 3. Click on the locatio n, then open the pop -up menu a nd select Send to device .
33 Syncing My Places locations with MyDrive When you are logged in to MyDrive on yo ur GO, the locatio ns you hav e added to My Places are automatically synce d with your MyDrive accou nt. You can see your M y Places locatio ns and the POI place lists when yo u are logged in to MyD rive in a web brows er or when using t h e MyDrive app.
34 All imported POI p lace lists . Tip : MyDrive also syn cs your locations in My Places wit h your MyDrive account. You can see your My Places locations an d the POI place lists yo u have imported in My Drive on a web browser or o n the MyDrive app.
35 About search You use search to fi nd a wide range of places an d then navigate to th em. You can searc h for the following: A specific address, fo r example, 123 Oxfo rd Street, London. A partial address, for exa mple, Oxford st Lon. A type of place, for ex ample, petrol stati on or restaurant.
36 Tip : If you press and hol d a letter ke y on the keyboard, you get access to extra characters if they are availab le. For example, press and hold the letter "e" to a ccess characters 3 e è é ê ë and more. You can search for a PO I (Point of Interest) t ype, such as a restaurant o r tourist attracti on.
37 6. To see more informati on about the POI, s elect the POI on th e map and then sel ect the pop -up menu button. Select More Infor mation on the pop -up menu. You see more informati on about the POI suc h as the phone n umber, full address and email.

41 8. Show/hide keyboar d . Select this button to show or hide the keyboard . Tip : Select the Shift k ey once to make th e next letter you type upper case. Double tap t he Shift key to use Caps-Lock where all the lette rs you type are u pper case. Select the Shif t key once to quit Caps-Lock.
42 If you show the resu lt on the map, you can use the pop-up menu to adding a locati on from My Places or search near this location. If a route is already planned, you can a dd the locati on to your current route. Note : The best sea rch results are show n on the map.
43 Every location on Eart h, including those in t he sea lik e islands a nd oil rigs, can be represent ed by a mapcode. Mapcodes ar e short, and easy to r ecognise, rememb er and communicate. Th ey are precise to a few met res, which is good e nough for every -day use.

47 Planning a route to an address using search Important : In the interest of saf ety and to avoid distractions while yo u are driving, you shou ld always plan a rout e before you start driv ing. To plan a route to an address using searc h, do the following: 1.

49 Planning a route to a city centre Important : In the interest of saf ety and to avoid distractions while you are drivi ng, you should always plan a rout e before you start driv ing. To plan a route to a city centre using sear ch, do the following: 1.

The city centre location is shown on the ma p. 7. Select Drive . A route is planned an d then guida nce to your destina tion begins.

61 A pop-up menu s hows a list of o ptions. 3. Select Remove Starting P oint . Your route is replanne d with your curr ent location as the starting point. Changing the starting point into a stop 1. Select the starting point on the route in t he map view.
62 The map opens showing t he locations of car pa rks. If a route is planne d, the map shows car pa rks near your destinati on. If a route i sn't planned, the map shows car pa rks near your curr ent location.
63 A pop-up menu opens o n the map showi ng the name of th e car park . 4. To plan a route to yo ur chosen car park , select the drive butto n: A route is planned an d then guidance to yo ur destinatio n begins. As soon as you sta rt driving, the guidance view i s shown automatica lly.
64 If a route is planne d, the map shows petrol sta tions along your rout e. If a route isn't planned , the map shows pet rol stations near yo ur current locatio n. You can change t he screen to show a list o f petrol stations by press ing this button: You can select a petro l station from the list to locate it on the map.
65 4. To plan a route to yo ur chosen petrol sta tion, select the drive b utton: A route is planned an d then guidance to yo ur destinatio n begins. As soon as you sta rt driving, the guidance view i s shown automatica lly. Tip : You can add a pet rol station as a s top on your route by using the pop-up menu.
66 The Current Route Menu When you have plan ned a route or track, s elect the C urrent Route b utton in the Mai n Menu to open the Current Rout e Menu. The following buttons ar e available in the me nu: Clear Route or Track Select this button to clear the currently p lanned route or track .
67 Add Stop to Route Select this button to add a stop to your c urrently planned rout e. You can also add a stop to your route directly from t he map . Add to My Routes If you plan a new ro ute that has not alr eady been saved, yo u see this button. Select this button to sav e this route as part of your My Routes list.
68 2. Select Avoid Bloc ked Road . A new route is f ound that avoids t he blocked road. You may get s hown up to tw o alternatives depending on the ro ad network betw een you and your destination . The new route is s hown on the map view with t he difference in t ravel time in a balloo n.
69 Zoom in on the map , then press and hold to se lect a location. In the pop -up menu, se lect Add to Current Route . Select Search and search for a locati on. When you hav e found a location, se lect the Add Stop to Route button. Your route is reca lculated to include your stop .
70 About My Routes My Routes provides a n easy wa y to create saved route s with optional stops, some times known as an itinerary. You can use M y Routes to save, retriev e and edit ro utes.
71 Navigating using a saved route To navigate using a p reviously saved route, do th e following: 1. In the Main Menu , select My Routes . 2. Select a route from yo ur list. The route is shown on t he map view. 3. To navigate to the sta rt of the saved rout e, select Drive .
72 3. Select the pop-m enu button to open th e menu. 4. Select Manage Stops . 5. Select Add Stop to Ro ute . 6. Select your new sto p on the map. Tip : If you know the name of your new stop, yo u can use Se arch to select you r stop instead o f using the map.
73 About voice control Note : Voice control is not supported on all devices or in all languages. Instead of selecti ng items on the screen to control your Tom Tom GO, you can use your voi ce to control your GO. You can use voice cont rol to control many of the navigati on features on your GO, or to c hange settings.
74 Orange means you r phrase might work. Green means your p hrase is good. 4. Select Hear it to liste n to your wake -up phrase. 5. Select Done then Yes to save your wak e-up phrase. Your new wake- up phrase is ready to use. Start Vo ice Control and try it .
75 Some tips for using voice control You can help your GO understand what yo u are saying by following thes e tips: Mount your GO about a n arm's length i n front of you, awa y from speakers or air vents. Reduce backgroun d noise such as voices or t he radio.
76 "Navigate to", "Loo k for" or "Nearest" instead of "Driv e to" when you want t o drive to a petrol station. "Cancel" or "Delete" i nstead of "Clear" w hen you want to clear your current rout e.
77 For some commands , your GO repeats w hat you say and asks for confi rmation. 3. If the command is co rrect, say "Yes." If the command is in correct, say "No" and repeat the command afte r you hear "I'm listeni ng".
78 About Map Share You can report ma p corrections using Map Sha re. These map correctio ns are then shared with other TomTom users when t hey receive a ma p update. There are two ways to report a map corr ection: Select a location o n the map and creat e the correctio n report immediately.
79 Note : If you want to report a map corr ection of a type not show n in the menu, use th e Map Share Reporter at tomtom.com . 5. Follow the instructio ns for your chosen type of ma p correction. 6. Select Report . 7. Connect your GO to MyDrive to sen d your map correct ion report to TomTom a nd receive map corrections from oth er TomTom users.

82 About speed cameras The Speed Cameras s ervice warns you abo ut the following camera locations: Fixed speed camera locati ons. Mobile speed came ra locations. Mobile speed came ra hotspots. Average speed came ra locations. Speed enforcement zo nes.
83 Symbol shown on map Symbol shown in route bar Description Fixed speed camera - this type of came ra checks the speed of pas sing vehicles and i s f ixed in one place. Mobile speed camera - this type of camera checks the speed of pas sing vehicles and ca n be moved to different loca tions.
84 Changing the way you are warned To change the way yo u are warned about s peed cameras , select the Sounds and Wa rnings button in the Settings me nu. You can then set how yo u want to be warn ed for the different types o f cameras and safety ha zards.
85 2. Select Report Spee d Camera . You see a message tha nking you for adding t he camera. Tip : If you make a mista ke when reporting a camera, select Cancel in th e message. The speed camera is s aved on your GO automati cally and also se nt to other users.
86 About danger zones and risk zones The Danger Zones se rvice warns you about dang er zones and risk zo nes on your route when you a re in France. Since 3rd January 2 012, it has been il legal to receive warnings a bout the position of fixed or mobile speed cameras whe n you are driving in France .
87 Danger zone and risk zone warnings Warnings are given 10 seconds before yo u reach a danger zo ne or risk zone. You a re warned in several ways: A symbol is shown i n the route bar and on yo ur route on the ma p. Your distance to t he start of the zo ne is shown in the route bar .
88 Reporting a risk zone If you pass a new t emporary risk zon e that you were n ot warned about, you ca n report it instantly. Note : To report a risk zone, you must be connected t o TomTom services a nd logged in to your MyTomTom account .
89 About My Places My Places provides an eas y way to select a locati on without the n eed to search fo r the location each time. You can use My Places to create a co llection of useful or favo urite addresses. Tip : The terms "favo urite" and "place" mean the same thing - favourites are p laces that you go to often.
90 Zoom in on the map at the location yo u want to select. Press a nd hold to select the loc a- tion, then select t he home or work location sym bol. Select the Searc h button and search for a location. Select a location to s et as home or wo rk.
91 1. Open the pop- up menu and select Add to My Places . 2. In the name bar, enter the name "Ho me". Note : "Home" must have a capital lette r H. 3. Select Add . Your home location is changed to the n ew location. Adding a location from My Places 1.
92 Adding a location to My Places u sing search 1. In the Main Menu , select Sear ch . 2. Search for a location . 3. Select the locatio n then select Show on map . 4. When the map view s hows the location, sele ct the pop -up menu button . 5. Select Add to M y Places .
93 Appearance Select Settings in the Main Menu, th en select Ap pearance . On this screen, you ca n change these setti ngs: Display Select Display to change the app earance of the display. Route bar Select Route bar to change the informati on you see in the route bar.
94 Select Switch to nig ht colours when dar k to automa tically switch to night co lours when it gets dark. Size of text and b uttons Select Size of text an d buttons to change the size of the t ext and the buttons y ou see on the screen. Note : This feature is only available on devic es with a 6 inch / 15 cm or larger screen.
95 When the wide rout e bar is shown, you see more informati on about your route. Fo r example, you see time and dis tance to traffi c queues and more.
96 Select this setting to see stops on your route . Rest areas Select this setting to see rest areas on you r route. Guidance view Select Settings in the Main Menu, then select Ap pearance . Show current street name This setting displays nam e of the street you driving along on the guida nce view.
97 If you need a comp uter voice and your lang uage is unava ilable, then you are asked to c hoose from a list of installed comp uter voices ava ilable for the country you are in .
98 Changing the map Select Change map to change the map that you are us ing. You can choose from maps stored eithe r in internal memory or m emory cards if yo ur GO has a memory card slot . Note : Although you ca n store more than on e map on your GO , you can only use o ne map at a time for planning and nav igation.
99 Warning type Warning type You can choose t he type of warnings you wa nt to hear whe n you are driving: Read-aloud warning s Hear spoken warnings a nd warnings sounds. Warning sounds Hear only warning sou nds. None No warning sounds are given.
100 Screen touch sounds Select Settings in the Main Menu, th en select Sounds & Warnings . Switch on Screen to uch sounds to h ear a click when you select an item or to uch a button. The c lick sound means that yo ur selection or touch has b een understood.
101 System Select Settings in the Main Menu, th en select System . On this screen, you ca n change these setti ngs: About This is an information scr een rather than a s etting and shows you information about yo ur TomTom GO.
102 Help Select Help from t he Main Menu or t he Settings me nu. On this screen, you ca n see the following i nformation: Voice control Note : Voice control is not supported on al l devices or in all languages.
103 Finding product certification information on your device To find product c ertification information, suc h as the ICASA -approve d certification numb er, do the following on your GO: 1. Select Settings in the Main Menu. 2. Select System . 3. Select About .
104 About MyDrive Connect MyDrive Connect is a d esktop -based application that helps you manage the co ntent and services o f your TomTom GO . For example, you can use MyDrive Connect to get map updat es, software updates or manage your MyTom Tom account.

107 Keep your seat be lts on. Keep a safe dista nce from the vehic le in front. Before setting off on a motorbike, fasten you r helmet correctly. When riding a moto rbike, always wear protective clothing and e quipment. When riding a mot orbike, be extra v igilant and always ride defensively.
