5 This Reference Guide explains all you need to know about your new Tom Tom GO navigation d e- vice. If you want a quick read of the essentials, we recom mend that you read the Get going ch apter. This covers installation, s witching on, setting up an d planning your first route.
6 Installing in your car Use the mount provided with your device to ins tall your TomTom GO device in your vehicle. Read the instructions about posi tioning your device before you install your device. To install your device, d o the following: 1. Connect the USB cable to the mount.
7 You can also press the On/Off button for more than 2 seconds until you see th e Sleep and Turn Off buttons. Select Sleep to make the de vice sleep. Note: If you have pl anned a route, the rou te is saved. Tip: To send your navi gation device to sleep when i t is removed from the mou nt, go to Battery settings in the Settings Menu.
8 The search screen op ens with the keyboard sho wing. 3. Use the keyboard to enter the name of the place you want to plan a rou te to. You can search f or an address but you can also sear ch for a town, city or pos tcode.

11 About TomTom services TomTom services give y ou real -time information about traf fic and speed came ras on your route. To get TomTom services on your GO you need a MyTomTom accoun t. The way you connect your GO to TomTom servic es depends on your navi gation device.
12 Personal Area Networks Your phone share s its internet connection by using the phone's Bluetooth and Personal Area Network (PAN) function s. Depending on your phone 's Operating S ystem, .
13 Bluetooth not connec ted. Bluetooth connecting. You r device is trying to autom atically connect to your phone. Bluetooth connected. Y our device is connected to your phone . If you want to connec t using another phone, you must turn on Per sonal Area Network (PAN) and Bluetooth on that phone , then let your device searc h for the phone.
14 Memory card slot Some TomTom navig ation devices have a memory card slot that is located on the side or bottom of the device. Before you use the mem ory card slot, make sur e that you have the lates t version of the application installed on your navi gation device by connecting to MyTomTom using a com puter.
15 4. Select the button to turn s ending of information on or off. Note : If you choose n ot to share this inf ormation, you will no longer re ceive our services. Thi s is because service s need to send the location of you r device to TomTom in or der to receive the traffic information r elated to where you are.
16 The map view The map view is sho wn when you start your navig ation device and you have n o planned route. Your actual location is sho wn as soon as your devic e has found your GP S location. You can use map view in t he same way as you migh t look at a traditional pape r map.
17 5. Selected location. Press and hold to sele ct a location on the map. Select the pop -up menu button to show options f or the location, or selec t the dr ive button to plan a route to the loc a- tion. 6. Main Menu button. Select the button to open the Mai n Menu .
18 When your navigation dev ice starts after it was turned of f and you have a route planned, you are shown the map view wi th your current location. 1. Switch view button. Select the switch view bu tton to change be tween the map view and the guidance view.
19 The route bar The route bar is shown when you have planned a rou te. It has a destination p anel at the top, and a bar with symbols un derneath. The destination panel sho ws the following informa tion: The estimated time that you will arrive at your de stination.
20 As you approach an e xit or junction, the lane you n eed is shown on the scre en and in the instru c- tion panel. Tip : To close the lane i mage, select anywhere on the screen or press the back button. To turn lane images off, se lect Setti ngs in the Main Menu, then se lect Appear ance .
21 All about gestures You need to use gestures to control your naviga tion device. This Reference Guide explains which gestures to us e throughout the guide but here is a complete list of all the gestures you can use. Double tap Touch one finger on the s creen twice in rapid suc cession.
22 Navigation buttons On the map view or guidance view , select the Main Menu button to ope n the Main Menu. The following navigation b uttons are available in the Main Menu: Search Select this button to searc h for an address, a place or a Point of Interest, then plan a route to that location.
23 Other buttons On the map or guidanc e view, select the Main Menu button to open the Main Menu. The following buttons are available in the Main Menu screen, in addition to the navigation buttons : Select this button to open the Settings Menu . Select this button to open the Help Menu .
24 Select this button to incr ease the brightness of the s creen and display the map in brighter colours. Volume control On the map or guidanc e view, select the Main Menu button to open the Main Menu. Select and slide the volume control to change the volume of voic e instructions and warnings.
25 About search To find a wide ran ge of places and then navi gate to them, you use searc h. Using search you can do the following: Search for a specifi c address, for example, 123 Oxfor d Street, London. Search for a partial addr ess, for example, Oxford st Lon.
26 You can search f or an address but you can also s earch for a town, city or pos tcode. In addition you can search for a POI (Point of Interest), such as a restaurant, pe trol station or tourist attra c- tion or you can enter the n ame of a specific POI , for example, "Rosie's Pizzeria".
27 Entering search criteria Select Search in the Main Menu to s tart searching for address es and POIs. The search s creen opens showing the keybo ard and the following but tons: 1. Back button. Select this button to g o back to the previous screen. 2.
28 stations. When prompted, enter the type of loca tion and then select it in the right-hand colum n to carry out the searc h. Near destination When a route has be en planned, you can select this option to use your destination as the ce ntre for your searc h.
29 When you select an addr ess from the list of s earch results, you can choose to show it on the map, add a crossroad or pl an a route to that chosen loc ation. If you show the result on the map, you can use the pop-up menu to add the location to My Places or search near this locatio n.
30 Planning a route using search Important : In the in terest of safety and to re duce distractions while you are driving, you should always plan a route bef ore you start driving. To plan a route usin g search, do the following: 1. Select the Main Menu but ton to open the Main Menu: 2.

32 . 2. When you have found your destination on the map, select it by pressing and h olding the screen for about one s econd. A pop-up menu sho ws the nearest address. 3. To plan a route to this des tination, select the drive button: Your navigation devic e plans a route then starts t o guide you to your de stination.
33 Tip: You can add a s top to a route that you h ave already planned. Planning a route using My Places To navigate to one of My Places f rom your current location, do the f ollowing: 1. Select the Main Menu but ton to open the Main Menu: 2. Select My Places .
34 Finding a car park To find a car park, do the following: 1. Select the Main Menu but ton to open the Main Menu: 2. Select Parking . The map opens showin g the locations of car parks. If a route is planned, the map shows car par ks near your destination.
35 If you want to chan ge how the search is done, select the button to the right of the searc h box. You can then change where the search is car ried out, for example, to search ne ar you or the whole map. 3. Select a car park from the map or the list.
36 Tip: You can add a car p ark as a stop on your rou te by using the pop -up menu . Finding a petrol station To find a petrol station, do the following: 1. Select the Main Menu but ton to open the Main Menu: 2. Select Petrol Station . The map opens showin g the locations of petrol stations.
37 If you want to chan ge how the sear ch is done , select the button to the r ight of the search box. You can then change where the search is car ried out, for example, to search ne ar you or the whole map. 3. Select a petrol station fro m the map or the list.
38 The Current Route Menu When you have planned a route, select the Current Route but ton in the Main Me nu to open the Current Route Menu. The following buttons are available in the Current Ro ute Menu: Clear Route Select this button to clear the currently planned rout e.
39 Types of route Select Change Route Ty pe to change the type of route planned to your current destination. Y our route is recalculated using the new route type. You can select the foll owing types of route: Fastest route - the f astest route to your destination.
40 2. Zoom in on the map, then press and hold to select a location. 3. Select the pop-up menu button. 4. Select Add to Current Ro ute . Your route is recal culated to include your stop. Delete a stop from your route 1. Press the switch vie w button to sho w the map.
41 About TomTom Traffic TomTom Traffic is a uni que TomTom service provid ing real -time traffic inf ormation. For more information about TomTo m services, go to tomtom.com/service s . In combination with IQ Ro utes, Traffic helps you p lan the optimum route to your destination taking into account the curre nt local traffic conditions.
42 The route bar The route bar is shown when you have planned a rou te. It has a destination p anel at the top, and a bar with symbols un derneath. The destination panel sho ws the following informa tion: The estimated time that you will arrive at your destination.
43 Tip: Select an incident on the map to see more de tailed information. 1. Traffic incident that affe cts your route in your directi on of travel. A symbol or number a t the start of the incident sh ows the type of incide nt or the delay in minutes, for example 5 m inutes.
44 To get more information about an incident, select an incident in the route bar. The map opens zoomed in on the inci dent and a pop -up opens showing detailed inf ormation about the tr affic i n- cident. The information shown in cludes: The type of traffic i ncident - general, accide nt, road works or lane cl osure.

46 About speed cameras Note : TomTom servic es are not available in all coun tries or regions, and not al l services are available in all countries or regions. You may be abl e to use TomTom ser vices when travelling abroad. For more infor mation on available services, go to tomtom.
47 Changing the way you are warned - speed cameras To change the way your TomTom GO navigation device warns you a bout speed cameras, sele ct the Sounds and Warni ngs button in the Settings Menu . You can then set ho w you want to be warned for the different types of came ras and safety zones.
48 shown, instead of your current speed. When you are in the spee d check zone, the visual w arning continues to be shown in the route bar . Speed enforcement zo ne - these zones can con tain mul tiple speed cameras. You are warned at the star t and end of the speed enf orcement zone.
49 About danger zones Since 3rd January 20 12, it has been illegal to receive warnings about the posi tion of fixed or m o- bile speed cameras wh en you are drivin g in France. To be compli ant with this change in Fre nch law, speed camera loca tions are no longer repor ted but instead areas of danger are indicated as zones.
50 Changing the way you are warned To change the way your TomTom GO device warns you about danger zones, sele ct the Sounds and Warnings butt on in the Settings Menu. You can change set tings for whether you want to be warned or not. For example, to change h ow you are warned when you approach a danger zone, do the followin g: 1.
51 About My Places My Places provides an e asy way to select a loc ation without the need to se arch for the location each time. You can use My Places to create a collection of useful addresses. The following items are al ways in My Places: Home - Your home loca tion can be somewhere you often visit, such as your of fice.
52 Change your home location 1. In the Main Menu, select My Places . 2. Select Home . Your home location is shown on the map, with a pop -up menu. 3. Select Edit this Locatio n . 4. To select a new home location, do one of the f ollowing: Zoom in on the map at the location you want to sele ct.
53 Fli ck - to scroll the map a long way, flick the tip of a finger across the scr een. Tip: For a complete list of gestures, see Using gestures . 2. Press and hold to select the location. 3. Select the pop-up menu button. 4. Select Add to My Plac es .
54 Delete a location from My Places 1. In the Main Menu, select My Places . 2. Select Edit List . 3. Select the places you wan t to delete. 4. Select Delete .
55 Appearance Select Settings in the Main Menu, then select Appearance . On this screen, you can change these settin gs: Switch to night colo urs when dark Select this setting to make the device automatically s witch to night colours whe n it gets dark.
56 Destination panel Select Settings in the Main Menu, then select Appearance . Select Destination pa nel to change the followin g settings: Show remaining distance Select this setting to show the remaining distance lef t to travel in the destinatio n panel during navigation.
57 Read aloud road sign information Use this setting to control whether road sign inform ation is read aloud as p art of navigation i n- structions. Read aloud street nam es Use this setting to control whether street names are read aloud as part of navig ation instru c- tions.
58 Always take the fastest route Ask me so I can cho ose Don't ask me Always plan this ty pe of route The types of route y ou can choose from are as follows: Fastest route - the r oute which takes the least time. Shortest route - the shortest distance between the locations you se t.

60 Keyboards Select this setting to choo se from a list of available keyboards. You use the keyboard to enter names and addresse s, such as when you plan a route or search for the name of a to wn or a local restaurant. Units Select this setting to choo se the units used on your device for features such as r oute plann ing.
61 Guided tour Select this option to use the guided tour. The tour is short and includes basi c information to help you get going wi th your new device.
62 Help menu options The following options are available in the Help Menu : Guided Tour Select this option to get a short tutorial on how to us e your navigation device. About Select this option to see in formation about your device appl ication version, map, copyr ights and licences.
63 About MyTomTom MyTomTom helps you m anage the contents and ser vices of your TomTom G O navigation device, as well as giving you acce ss to the TomTom com munity. You log in to MyTom Tom on the TomTo m website. It is a good idea to frequently connect your navigation device to MyTomTom to ensure you always have the latest upda tes.
64 4. You may have to sel ect your country to c ontinue. 5. On the left hand side, click Download MyTomTom. Your browser downloa ds the MyTomTom suppor t application, which you ne ed to install on your computer in order to connect your device to M yTomTom.
65 Important Safety Noti ces and Warnings Global Positioning S ystem (GPS) and Global Navi gation Satellite System (GLON ASS) The Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Na vigation Satellite System ( GLONASS) systems are satellite-based s ystems that provide loc ation and timing infor mation around the globe.
66 Battery This product uses a Lithium-Ion ba ttery. Do not use it in a humi d, wet and/or corrosive e nvironment. Do not put, store or leave your pro d- uct in or near a heat sour ce, in a high tempe.
67 Promptly dispose of use d batteries in accordance with local regulations. Battery usage by childr en should be supervised. Avoid dropping the devic e. If the device is dr opped, especially on a hard surf ace and the user suspects damage, take i t to a service centre for i nspection.
