Thank you for purchasing a THIEL SmartSub ® system. I t has been engineered to provide a ver y high level of performance and also incorporat es inno vative (pat ent pending ) concepts in its design t o solve the several special problems subwoofer systems usually exhibit.
THIEL SmartSubs are ver y high performance, innovative subwoofer systems that provides exceptionally deep, uniform, dynamic and low distortion bass reproduction. I n addition, they provide near-ideal performance with any room placement and when used with any type of main loudspeaker .
5 T emperature Correction These SmartSub models contain unique circuitr y (patent pending ) that corrects for compression dist ortion due to heating of the drivers’ voice coils. W ithout this c orrection subwoofer output levels could decrease by as much as 5 dB and the response altered at times of high demand.
LFE Configuration The SmartSubs can be used in four ways depending on your requirements: 1. As a stand-alone unit. 2. W ith a passive crossover . 3. W ith the SmartSub I ntegrator in augment mode. 4. W ith the SmartSub I ntegrat or in crosso ver mode.
7 In this configuration the subwoofer is used to reproduce both the subwoofer channel and the deep bass portion of the left and right channels and achieves near-perfect blending of the main channel bass with the main speakers. T ell the processor the main speakers are large, even if they are not.
Do you require a crossover? W ithout a crossover the subwoofer will pro vide very high quality reproduction of the Low F requency Effects (LFE), or “point 1”, channel of a multi channel sound system.
If the subwoofer is used only for LFE reproduction, it can be placed almost anywhere. I f more than one subwoofer is used, placing them in different locations tends to even out possible room resonance irregularities.
Hookup If the subwoofer is being used with a passive crossover or SmartSub I ntegrator , a balanced XLR interconnect cable is connect ed from the unit’s subw oofer output to the subwoofer ’ s N ormal I nput .
