Assembling 11 T o install the SIM or USIM card and battery , If the device is on, press and hold the P ower/L ock key and 1 select Po wer o → OK t o turn it o . Remove the back co ver . 2 Be careful not to damage y our nger nails when you remov e the back cover .
Assembling 12 Inser t the batter y . 4 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba ttery Before using the devic e for the rst time , y ou must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a tr avel adapt er or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable .
Assembling 13 When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w battery message. The battery icon will also be empty . I f the battery level becomes too low , the device will automatically power o . Recharge your battery to continue using your device.
Assembling 14 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter into a pow er 2 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charg ing, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the touch screen ma y ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 15 Plug the other end of the PC data cable into a USB port on 2 a PC. Depending on the type of PC data cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charg ing begins. When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is no 3 longer moving), unplug the PC data cable fr om the device and then from the PC.
Assembling 16 Remove the back co ver and batter y . 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing down. Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the battery and back cover . 4 Remov e the memor y car d › Before r emoving a memor y card, rst unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memor y card › F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select Applications → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .

Getting star ted 23 Use the t ouch screen Y our device ’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions to use the touch screen. T o avoid scra tching the touch screen, do not use ● sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen t o come into contact ● with other electrical devices.
Getting star ted 24 Y our device turns o the touch screen when y ou do ● not use the device for a specied period . T o turn on the screen, pr ess the P ower/Lock key or the Home key . Y ou can also adjust the backlight time. In Idle mode, ● open the application list and select Settings → Display → Screen time- out .

Getting star ted 28 Organise applications › Y ou can reorganise the applica tions in the application list by changing their order or g rouping them into categories to suit your pr efer ences and needs. In the application list, press [ 1 ] → Edit → OK .
Getting star ted 29 Ac cess rec ent applications › Pr ess and hold the Home key to open the list of 1 applications you ha ve accessed recen tly . Select an application to access. 2 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitasking device. It can run more than one application at the same time .
Getting star ted 30 T urn on or o the touch tone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Sound → A udible selec tion . Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › Pr ess the V olume key up or down to adjust the ringtone volume .

Getting star ted 33 Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device b y ac tivating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L o cation and security → Set up SIM card lock → Lock SIM card .
Getting star ted 34 Enter t ext using the Swype keyboard › Select the rst charac ter of a wor d and drag your nger 1 t o th e sec on d c ha ract er wi th ou t r ele asi ng th e nge r fr om the screen. Continue until y ou have nished the wor d.

Getting star ted 36 Enter t ext using the Samsung keypad › Select 1 → P or trait k eypad types and selec t a text input method. Y ou can select one of key input methods (QWERT Y or traditional keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing on 2 the screen.

Getting star ted 38 Download applica tions from Andr oid Market Based on the Android platf orm, your device ’ s func tionality can be extended by installing additional applications. Android Market pro vides you an easy and quick wa y to shop for games and mobile applications .
Getting star ted 39 Download les fr om the web When you do wnload les or web applications from the web , your device sa ves them in a memor y card. F iles you download from the w eb can include viruses that will damage your devic e. T o lessen your risk , only download les from sour ces you trust.
Getting star ted 40 Set up a ser ver acc ount › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Add ac count → an account type.
Communication 41 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. Make and answ er a call › Y ou can use the buttons or the touch scr een when you make, accept, end or r ejec t calls.
Communication 42 Answ er a c all 1 When a call comes in, drag right. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag lef t. T o send a message when you reject incoming calls , select Reject c all with message .

Communication 45 Use additional f eatures › Y ou can use various other call-relat ed featur es, such as auto rejection, F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode, or call diverting or barring. Set auto rejection Use auto r ejec tion to reject calls from certain numbers automatically .
Communication 46 Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will r estric t outgoing calls, ex cept for the numbers stor ed in the FDN list. T o ac tivate FDN mode , In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → C all → Additional settings → F ix ed D ialing Numbers → Enable FDN .

Communication 48 Messaging Learn to cr eate and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages y ou have sen t or receiv ed. Y ou may incur additional charges f or sending or receiving messages while outside y our home ser vice area.
Communication 49 Add r ecipients of your message. 3 Enter phone numbers or email addr esses manually , ● separating them with a semicolon or a c omma. Select phone numbers or email addresses from the lists ● by selecting . When you ent er an email address, the device will conv er t the message as a multimedia message.
Communication 50 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls t o be diver ted to the voic e mail ser ver , callers may leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls .

Communication 53 When you ar e nished setting up the email account, the email messages are downloaded t o your device. Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 3264 x 2448 pix els (8 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 1920 x 1080 pixels . The camera automa tically tur ns o when you do not ● use it for a specied period.

Entertainment 62 Captur e a photo in Car toon mode › Y ou can take photos with cartoon eects. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camer a to turn on the camera. Select 2 → Shooting mode → Cartoon . Make any necessary adjustments.
Entertainment 63 Option F unction Eects Apply a special eect, such as sepia or black and white tones . Resolution Change the resolution option. White balance Adjust the colour balanc e according to lighting conditions . ISO Adjust the sensitivity of the camera imaging sensor .
Entertainment 64 Record a video › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Camera to turn on the camera. Drag the slider to the camcor der to switch to the 2 camcorder .
