Installation 2 - 11 9. Connect the yellow wire to the vehicle' s ignition swit ch. If you do not plan on using the Ignition Sens e feature, connect the yellow wire to the vehicle’ s positive power source. 10. Ensure the wiring connections created are suf ficiently insulated from each other .

Attach the keyboard bracket s to both sides of the VC5090, using the cap screws with captive washer s.

Installation 2 - 23 Installing the Uninterruptable Power Supply T o install the UPS: 1. Place the Ma in Power switch o n top of th e vehicle co mputer to the o ff position. 2. Remove and d iscard the eight screws securing the U PS/S torage Card door on the back of th e vehicle computer .

Installation 2 - 25 Installing a Secure Digital Card A Secure Digital (SD) card provides secondary non-volat ile storage. The card holder is located on the back of the VC5090. T o install the SD card: 1. Place the Ma in Power switch o n the top of the vehic le computer to the off position.

Installation 2 - 29 The switch must be rated at 5V , 10 mA and it should have a operat ing temperature, sealing and life cycle applicable for the environm ent that it is used in. The mechanical switch must be a Normally Open type of switch. The supply voltage for the solid state switch is 5 VDC (500 mA max.

Y ou should use either COM1 or COM2 port for serial ActiveSync or the USB Client port for USB ActiveSync.

Chapter 3 Operating the VC5090 Chapter 3 Operating the VC5090 Introduction This chapter expl ains the buttons, status icons an d contro ls on the VC5090 and provide s basic instructions for using the VC5090, inclu d ing powering on and resetting. It also incl uded instruc tions for ent ering and capturing data.

The Microsoft SIP looks and fu nctions like a standar d keyboard. The VC5090 SIP loo k s and func tions like the optional keyboard or the half-scree n configuration’ s built-in keyboard.

Operating the VC5090 3 - 11 Using a Headset Y ou can use a stereo headse t for audio communication wh en an a udio enabled application is u s ed. Symbol recommends headset, p/n 50 -1 1300-050 and ada pter cabl e p/n 2 5-80634-01R. Plug the headset jack into the mating connector on th e adapter cable.
3 - 12 VC5090 Vehicle Comput er Product Reference Guide Methods of Suspension VC5090 operation can be suspende d in three ways: • Manual suspension : the operator presses the Power button when the vehicle co mputer is on. • API suspens ion : the application requests a susp end via an API call.
Operating the VC5090 3 - 13 Calibrating the Screen Using the Display This section describes how to calibrate the VC5090 touch screen. If the current calib ration does not allow for easy touch screen input or you want to reca librate the screen at any time, refer to Using the Keyb oard on p age 3-14 .

Wireless Applications 4 - 19 T ransmit Power The T ransmit Power drop-down list conta ins differe nt options fo r Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure mode. Automatic (i.e., use the current AP settings) and Power Plu s (use h igher than the curr ent AP settings) are availa ble for Infrastructure mode.

Wireless Applications 4 - 21 Manage Profiles Application The Manage Profiles window provides a list of user-configured wirele ss profiles. Define up to 32 profiles at any one time. T o open the Manage Prof il es window , tap the Signal Strength icon > Manage Profiles .

This window updates every two seconds. T o open the Current Profile window , tap Curre nt Profi le in the Wireless St a tus window .
Wireless Applications 4 - 27 IPv4 Status Window The IPv4 St atus window displays the curr ent IP address, subnet, and other IP related informa tion assigned to the vehicle computer . It also allows renewing the addr ess if the profile is usin g DHCP to obtain th e IP information.

Save the log to a file or clear the log (within this instance of the application only).
