Chapter 1 Introduction 1-1 Overview The 7047A-73/7047A-T is a high-end workstation comprised of two main sub- systems: the SC743TQ-1200B-SQ tower/4U chassis and the X9DA7/X9DAi dual Intel® Xeon® processor serverboard.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-1 Chapter 2 Installation 2-1 Overview This chapter provides a quick setup checklist to get your SuperWorkstation 7047A- 73/7047A-T up and running. Following these steps in the order given should enable you to have the system operational within a minimum amount of time.
2-2 S uper W orkstation 7047A-73/7047A-T User's Manual Choosing a Setup Location • Leave enough clearance in front of the rack to enable you to open the front door completely (~25 inches) and approximately 30 inches of clearance in the back of the rack to allow for suf fi cient air fl ow and ease in servicing.
Chapter 2: Installation 2-3 • Allow the hot plug SAS/SA T A drives and power supply modules to cool before touching them. • Always keep the rack's front door and all panels and components on the servers closed when not servicing to maintain proper cooling.

Rack installation requires the use of the optional rackmount kit. There are a variety of rack units on the market, which may mean the assembly procedure will differ slightly .
Chapter 2: Installation 2-5 Installing the Chassis Rails Y ou will need to remove the top cover and the feet to add rack rails to the chassis. First, remove the top and right covers (top and left covers when standing as a tower chassis) by fi rst removing the screws that secure them to the chassis.

Chapter 3: System Interface 3-1 Chapter 3 System Interface 3-1 Overview The control panel on the 7047A-73/7047A-T has several LEDs and two buttons. There are also two LEDs on each hard drive carrier . These LEDs keep you con- stantly informed of the overall status of the system and the activity and health of speci fi c components.

Chapter 4: System Safety 4-3 4-3 ESD Precautions Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is generated by two objects with different electrical charges coming into contact with each other . An electrical discharge is created to neutralize this difference, which can damage electronic com ponents and printed circuit boards.

Notes: • Always connect the power cord last and always remove it before adding, re- moving or changing any hardware components.

Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-7 W arning: Y ou can only install the CPU to the socket in one direction. Make sure that the CPU is properly inserted into the socket before closing the load plate. If it doesn't close properly , do not force it as it may damage your CPU.

However , if you do need to uninstall the heatsink, please follow the instruc- tions below to uninstall the heatsink to prevent damage done to the CPU or the CPU socket.

See the table on the right for pin de fi nitions. Power Button The connection for the power button is on pins 1 and 2 of JF1.

Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-23 TPM Header/Port 80 A T rusted Platform Module/Port 80 header is located at JTPM1 to provide TPM support and Port 80 connection. Use this header to enhance system performance and data security . See the table on the right for pin de fi ni- tions.
5-24 S uper W orkstation 7047A-73/7047A-T User's Manual SGPIO Header T wo SGPIO (Serial General Purpose Input/Output) headers are designated T -SGPIO1 and SGPIO2. These head- ers are used to communicate with the system's enclosure management chip.
Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-25 SPDIF_In/SPDIF_Out Headers The SPDIF In (JSPDIF_In) and SP- DIF Out (JSPDIF_Out) headers are located next to the LAN controller on the serverboard. Place a cap on each header for audio support. Y ou will also need to have a cable to use each connection.

Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-27 GLAN Enable/Disable Change the setting of jumper JPL1 or JPL2 to enable or disable the LAN1 and LAN2 Ethernet ports, respectively . See the table on the right for jumper settings. The default setting is enabled.

Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-3 6-2 Front Control Panel The front control panel must be connected to the JF1 connector on the serverboard to provide you with system status and alarm indications. A ribbon cable has bundled these wires together to simplify this connection.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-1 Chapter 7 BIOS 7-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMI BIOS Setup utility for the X9DA7/X9DA7. It also provides the instructions on how to navigate the AMI BIOS Setup utility screens. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a Flash EEPROM and can be easily updated.
7-2 S uper W orkstation 7047A-73/7047A-T User's Manual How T o Change the Con fi guration Data The con fi guration data that determines the system parameters may be changed by entering the AMI BIOS Setup utility . This Setup utility can be accessed by pressing <Delete> at the appropriate time during system boot.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-3 The AMI BIOS main menu displays the following information: System Date/System Time Use this option to change the system time and date. Highlight System Time or System Date using the arrow keys. Enter new values through the keyboard and press <Enter>.

X Boot Features Quiet Boot This feature allows the user to select bootup screen display between POST mes- sages and the OEM logo.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-5 Interrupt 19 Capture Interrupt 19 is the software interrupt that handles the boot disk function. When this item is set to Enabled, the ROM BIOS of the host adaptors will "capture" Interrupt 19 at bootup and allow the drives that are attached to these host adaptors to function as bootable disks.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-7 Hardware Prefetcher (A vailable when supported by the CPU) If set to Enabled, the hardware prefetcher will prefetch streams of data and in- structions from the main memory to the L2 cache to improve CPU performance. The options are Disabled and Enabled .

X CPU Power Management Con fi guration This submenu allows the user to con fi gure the following CPU Power Manage- ment settings.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-9 CPU C7 Report (A vailable when Power T echnology is set to Custom) Select Enabled to allow the BIOS to report the CPU C7 State (ACPI C3) to the operating system. CPU C7 State is a processor-speci fi c low C-State. The options are Enabled and Disabled.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-1 1 Port 1B Link Speed Select GEN1 to enable PCI-Exp Generation 1 support for Port 1B. Select GEN2 to enable PCI-Exp Generation 2 support for Port 1B. Select GEN3 to enable PCI-Exp Generation 3 support for Port 1B. The options are GEN1, GEN2 , and GEN3.
7-12 S uper W orkstation 7047A-73/7047A-T User's Manual QPI (Quick Path Interconnect) Link Speed Mode Use this feature to select data transfer speed for QPI Link connections. The options are Fast and Slow . QPI Link Frequency Select Use this feature to select the desired QPI frequency .
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-13 Perfmon and DFX Devices A PerfMon device monitors the activities of a remote system such as disk us- age, memory consumption, and CPU load which will allow an IT administrator to maximize the performance of each computer within the network.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-15 All USB Devices This feature enables all USB ports/devices. The options are Disabled and Enabled . (If set to Enabled, EHCI Controller 1 and Controller 2 will appear .

SA T A Port0~SA T A Port5 : The AMI BIOS displays the status of each SA T A port as detected by the BIOS.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-17 RAID Mode The following items are displayed when RAID Mode is selected: PCH RAID CodeBase Select Intel to use Intel PCH RAID settings for onboard RAID support. The default setting is Intel . Port 0~5 Hot Plug Select Enabled to enable hot-plug support for the particular port.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-19 X Super IO Con fi guration Super IO Chip Displays the Super IO chip type. X Serial Port 0 Con fi guration The submenus allow the user to con fi gure the following settings for Serial Port 0: Serial Port Select Enabled to enable a serial port speci fi ed by the user .
7-20 S uper W orkstation 7047A-73/7047A-T User's Manual T erminal T ype This feature allows the user to select the target terminal emulation type for Con- sole Redirection. Select VT100 to use the ASCII Character set. Select VT100+ to add color and function key support.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-21 Recorder Mode Select Enabled to capture the data displayed on a terminal and send it as text messages to a remote server . The options are Disabled and Enabled. Resolution 100x31 Select Enabled for extended-terminal resolution support.
7-22 S uper W orkstation 7047A-73/7047A-T User's Manual Bits Per Second This item sets the transmission speed for a serial port used in Console Redirec- tion. Make sure that the same speed is used in the host computer and the client computer . A lower transmission speed may be required for long and busy lines.
Chapter 7: BIOS 7-23 High - The processor is running hot. This is a 'caution' level since the CPU's 'T em- perature T olerance' has been reached (or has been exceeded) and may activate an overheat alarm. The system may shut down if it continues for a long period to prevent damage to the CPU.
