10 A. CENTER OF BALANCE The point where this chair will tip f orward, back, or to the side depends on its center of balance and stability . How your chair is set up , the options you select and the changes you mak e , ma y affect the risk of a fall or tip-ov er .

Mov e your chair as close as as y ou can to the seat you are transf erring to . If possible, use a transfer board. 5. Rotate the front casters until they ar e as far forward as possible.
16 E. F ASTENERS Many of the scr ews, bolts and nuts on this chair are special high-str ength fas- teners. Use of improper fasteners ma y cause your chair to fail. 1. ONL Y use fasteners provided by an authorized Quickie supplier (or ones of the same type and strength, as indicated by the markings on the heads).
18 VI. W ARNINGS: F ALLS & TIP-O VERS ▲ ! M. MODIFIED SEA T SY STEMS Use of a seat system not appr oved by Quickie ma y alter the center of balance of this chair . This ma y cause the chair to tip over . 1. Do not change the seat system of your chair UNLESS y ou consult your authorized Quickie supplier first.
20 C. CLIMBING A CURB OR SINGLE STEP Follow these steps to help the rider climb a curb or single step g oing FOR W ARD: 1. Sta y behind the chair . 2. Face the curb and tilt the chair up on the rear wheels so that the fr ont casters clear the curb or step .
22 IX. SET UP & ADJUSTMENT Note: The Shadow ST/DT is shipped fully assem- bled except for the following items which ma y need to be attached or adjusted before final adjust- ments are made. Setting the chair on a flat surface (such as a workbench or table) helps mak e these procedur es easier .
25 H. CAMBER TUBE The most important adjustment on your Shadow Rigid wheelchair is the position of the camber tube. the center of gravity is determined by the camber tube. The cen- ter of gra vity is determined by the camber tube adjustment. Use a torque setting of 100 in.
26 IX. SET UP & ADJUSTMENT I. WHEEL LOCKS Note: Use a torque setting of 100 in.-lbs. when setting up wheel locks. 1. Low-Mount Scissor Wheel Locks: Loosen scre ws on top clamp. Slide assembly towar d rear wheel until clamp embeds into tire to pr event wheel mov e- ment, when in locked position.
29 XI. MAINTENANCE A. INTRODUCTION 1. Proper maintenance will impr ove perf ormance and extend the useful life of your chair . 2. Clean your chair r egularly . This will help y ou find loose or worn parts and mak e your chair easier to use. 3. Repair or r eplace loose , worn, bent or damaged parts before using this chair .
XII. QUICKIE LIMITED W ARRANTY A. FOR LIFETIME Quickie warrants the frame and quick-r elease axles of this wheelchair against defects in materials and w orkmanship for the life of the original pur chaser . The expected life of this frame is fiv e years.
