2 Inst allation Hardware Installation W ARNING: Prior to installation, please ensure that all computers and KVM switch(es) are po wered down. Console Connection The SVxxxDUSBU series of KVM switches are designed to use USB console connections only . A USB compatible ke yboard and mouse and VGA monitor must be used f or the local console.
3 Cascaded congurations NO TE: The Master KVM switch must ha ve equal or more PC ports than that of the Slav e KVM switches. F or example , if an 8-por t switch is the Master , an 8-por t or 4-por t s witch can be a Slave , but not a 16-port switch.
4 NO TE: A device (computer or KVM s witch) at any ‘PC x’ por t can be changed at any time after initial pow er-up . If you change any one of the PC 1 to PC 8 por t connections from a computer to a Slav e KVM switch or vice versa, or replace the de vices of a por t, the OSD will update this change the next time it is activ ated.
5 Operation Y ou ma y select a computer by pressing the front panel push button directly , by issuing hot-ke y commands or by activating the OSD window . The front panel indicator changes to reflect the computer por t selected (red) and whether the por t is connected to a powered computer (green).
6 OSD (On Screen Display ) Operation By hitting the left < CTRL > ke y twice within two seconds, y ou may see the ’Hotke y Menu’ if it is enabled (an OSD option).
7 The color of a device name is g reen if it has power and is ready f or selection (its corresponding front panel indicator is green). The color is white if it has no power . The OSD menu updates when it is activated. Use the < UP > and < DO WN > arrow keys to highlight a computer and the < ENTER > ke y to select it.
8 Function key <F3>: T o lock a de vice (a computer or a Slave) from unauthorized access, use Security . Secur ity is effectiv e for only one de vice (a computer or a Slav e). T o lock a device , use the < UP > and < DO WN > arrow keys to highlight it, then press < F3 >.
9 When Auto Scan detects an y keyboard or mouse activity , it suspends the scanning till activity stops; it then resumes with the next computer in sequence. T o abor t Auto Scan mode, press the left < CTRL > twice , or , press any front button. Scan T ype and Scan Rate set the scan pattern.
10 CH Display: Auto Off: After y ou select a computer, the channel address and name of the computer will appear on the screen for 3 seconds then disappear automatically . Alwa ys On: The channel address and name of a selected computer and/or OSD status display ed on the screen all the time.
11 NO TE: It is unnecessar y to s witch the Sun mark ON or OFF if an authentic Sun ke yboard is being used on the console. In other words, you must ensure that the Sun-mark ed por t has not been selected if you are already using a Sun ke yboard.

13 Manual Scan enables y ou to manually switch bac k and forth between the powered computers: Left <CTRL>, left <CTRL>, F2 Press the < UP > arrow k ey to select the pre vious computer and the < DO WN > arrow key to select the ne xt computer .
14 Sun/Mac Keyboar d Mapping The KVM Switch emulates a Sun K eyboard when a computer is marked with a Sun, in the OSD menu b y Function K ey < F5 >.
