25 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES How you begin your exercise progra m depends on your physical condition. If you have been in a ctive for several years or are severely overwe ight, start slowly a nd increa se your workout ti me gradually . Increa se your workout intensity gra dually , too, by monitoring your heart rate while you exercise.
