8 DVD Recorder Basi cs DVD Recorder Basics “What can I expect f rom DVD recording? ” is a natural questio n for a nyone new to t he experi ence. This sec tion expl ains the b asic steps i nvolved wi th DVD recordi ng. There are other differences besides just being rewritable/non-re writable.
9 DVD Recorder Basics Step 3: Digital recording Record a programme. When using the timer , you’ll f ind familiar , con venient features as found on con ventional VCRs, such as Sho wV iew/VIDEO Plus+ and PDC/VPS. Y ou can also dub the contents of connected video equipment such as a video camera.

32 Guide to Displa ys Title List The record er use s list displa ys for so me operations . The most frequently u sed is the Ti tle List menu. The Title L ist menu appears wh en you press TITL E LIST or when you sel ect “T ITLE LIST” from the Syste m Menu, and displays all of the title s on the disc.
33 How to Use the Displays Operating the Recorder Sub-menu The sub-menu appears when you sel ect an item from the disp layed list menu and pre ss ENT ER. 34 How to Enter Cha racters How to Enter Characte rs You ca n l abel a title , disc , p rogra m, or chan ne l by enter ing characters. You can enter up to 64 cha racters for a title /disc/ program n ame, but the act ual number of characters di splayed i n the menus such as the Ti tle List will vary.

36 Before Record ing About recordi ng formats When you i nsert an unused disc, the recorder automat ically starts formatting. Since a vailable fun ctions diffe r dependin g on the disc typ e, select the di sc that best suit s your needs usi ng the chart below.
37 Before Reco rding Recording/Timer Recording Checking the availa ble disc space (Disc Info ) When recordi ng on a used disc , make sure that there i s enough disc space for recording . With DVD-RWs or DVD+RWs, you can free up disc space by erasing t itles.
38 Recording TV progra mm es To free up disc space using the Disc Map display (DVD-RWs in Video mode, DVD+RWs only) The Disc Map displa y in the Tool menu allows you to che ck the disc status and e rase titles on the d isc. 1 Press TITLE LIST wh ile the disc is in the recorder.
39 Recording TV progr ammes Recording/Timer Recording d Press Z to c lose t he dis c tray. Wait until “LOAD” disap pears from the front panel displ ay. If you use an unused DVD, formatting starts automatically. When using an unused DVD-RW, select the recording format, VR or Video .
40 Recording TV progra mm es To cancel the Quick Timer Press z REC repeat edly until the counter a ppears in the fron t panel display. The recorder return s to normal recording mode.

55 Selecti ng a Record ed Title o n a Disc Playback To change the title order (Sort) You can sort the title s according to date, number, o r title. 1 Press < while the Title List menu is turned on. The Sort buttons ar e selected. 2 Press M / m to select date, number, or title, then press EN TE R.
56 Searching for a Title/ Chapter/Tr ack Sear chin g for a Tit le/ Chapter/Track You can search a DVD by title or chapter, and a CD by track. Since titles and t racks are assigned uniq ue number s on the disc, you can select the d esired title/c hapter/track b y entering its number.
57 Chec king the Play Informati on and Pla ying Tim e Playback Checking the Pl ay Information and Playing Time You can check the playing t ime and remaining ti me of the current title, cha pter, or track. Also, y ou can check the disc nam e recorded on the disc.

62 Adj ustin g th e P lay ba ck P ictur e and Sound ◆ C NR (chro ma noise reduction) Reduces noise contained in the colour element of the video si gnal. ◆ BNR (block n oise reduct ion) Reduces “block n oise” or mosaic like patterns in the pict ure.
63 Before Edi ting Editing a DVD Editing a DVD This sec tion introd uces the ba sics of DVD editi ng, and explai ns both edit functions for the rec ording on a disc, and t he edit functi ons for t he entire disc. Befo re Ed iting This recorder offers various edit options.
64 Before Editi ng Edit options for DVD-RWs (VR mode) You have two options for a DVD-RW (VR mode): ed iting either the origin al recording (called the “Original”), or the playback information created from the Original (ca lled a “Playl ist”).

84 Feat ures Sett ings ◆ DTS (D VD VIDEO o nly) Selects whe ther or no t to outpu t DTS signals. Note When you use the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL) jack to liste n to MPEG audio signa ls and set “MPEG ” to “MPEG” in Audio Setup, no sound will come from your speakers if you selec t one of the TVS mo des.

89 Troubles hooting Additional Informati on TV channels cannot be changed. , Switch the input selector t o TV. , Connect th e aeri al cable correct ly ( pag e 16) . The picture from equipment connected to the recorder’s input jack does not fill the screen.
