4 Instruction 3015-4256 Suggested Location of Sampling Point At the point of a refr igerant leak the g as is nearly pure. As the refr igerant is dispersed into the air, th e gas molecules diffuse causin g a dilution of the or iginal conc entration. Th e HGMSZ measures the refri gerant concentration at the p oint the sample is col lected.
Installation Installation Considerations Warnings and Cautions WARNING: Drilling holes in the HGMSZ enclosure will void the warranty. Please use knockouts provided for electrical connections. WARNING: Do not mount the HGMSZ in an area that may contain flammable liquids, vapors or aerosols.
6 Instruction 3015-4256 Mounting Instructions The HGMSZ should be ins talled plumb and level and securely fasten ed to a rigid mountin g surface. The enclosur e utilizes keyh ole mounting brack ets designed for #12 pan head s crews. Locate the four screws as shown in the diagram below and leave the screw h eads protruding approximat ely 3/16".
Instruction 3015-4256 7 Tubing Considerations ¼" outside diamet er (0.040" wall) fl ex tubing is used for a ll air lines (P/N 304 -2743) or equ ivalent. The tubing should be clean a nd free of moisture or other contamina nts. The tubing should be cut cle anly with a sharp knife and care should be tak en not to distort the tubing end.

Instruction 3015-4256 9 Electrical Wiring The HGMSZ uses a universal power supply that is capable of accepting inp uts of 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The monitor’s power consumption is 15 Watts. It is high ly recommended t hat the monitor be connected directly to the AC power source, preferably on its own ci rcuit.
10 Instruction 3015-4256 Connecting External Alarms Overview The HGMSZ includes four SPDT relays whose contacts are rat ed 3 A at 240 VAC. These relays ar e used for the connectio n of external a larm devices that are acti vated when the re lay is energized.
Instruction 3015-4256 11 Typical External Alarm Relay 1 Wiring Jumper the ‘Neutral’ line of an external power source or the monitor’s AC input to the ‘Comm on’ terminals on the relay connector. Connect one end of the strobe or horn to the ‘NO’ terminal of whichever level of alarm is a ppropriate for the application.

Instruction 3015-4256 13 Operation Front Panel Display and Controls General Operation Once the HGMSZ has been installed, set up, and powe red ON, it will make measur ements in the area being sampled for r efrigerant gas w ithout further o perator intervent ion.
14 Instruction 3015-4256 If a system fault occurs (see F ault Code list on Pag e 19), the monitor resp onds by turning ON the fro nt panel SYSTEM FAULT (yello w) light and en ergizing the fault rela y. If the intern al audible alarm is turned ON, it too will acti vate.
Instruction 3015-4256 15 Function Screens The Function screens are used to display stored dat a and to set up the monitor. From the Data Display s creen, press any Keypad button to displa y the first Function Menu screen.
16 Instruction 3015-4256 DIAGNOS – Enters the diagnostic fu nction. Press the Up Arrow Keypad button to toggle betw een the monitor’s two dia gnostic screens.
Instruction 3015-4256 17 AUDALRM – Allows the monitor’s internal audible alarm to be associated with any function o f the monitoring syst em. Factory defaul t is OFF. Use the Keypad to select the d esired audible alarm function, and then press ENTER to save that value and return to the previo us screen.
18 Instruction 3015-4256 Working with Gas Alarms Functional Overview If the refrigerant l evel in the area being m onitored exce eds its preset Leak, Spil l, or Evacuate Alarm level (Page 17), the HGMSZ will d etect this alarm condit ion and turn ON the front panel ALARM light.
Instruction 3015-4256 19 Viewing the Fault Log From the Data Display s creen, use the Keypad buttons to place the arr ow (>) on the display next to t he FAULTS fu nction. Then press EN TER to display the fault log. Immediately after selecting the FAULTS funct ion, the most recent fault event is disp layed.
20 Instruction 3015-4256 Clearing the Stored PPM Log, Alarms & Faults Data Up to 200 refrigerant gas ppm measurements, and 30 al arm an d fault event s are stored by th e monitor. To clear stored data, first display the data t o be cleared by using the PPM Log , Alarms or Faults function (Pages 15).
Instruction 3015-4256 21 Working with the DIAGNOS Function Overview The DIAGNOS function displays sensor data and status in form ation useful to a service t echnician for troubleshooti ng various fault condit ions. Explan ations of the data shown in t hese screens are given b elow.
22 Instruction 3015-4256 Working with the P-CHK Function Overview The P-CHK function (Pressure Check Function) (Page 17) is useful to a servic e technician for troubleshooti ng a flow fault probl em. The monitor w ill trigger a flow fau lt if the pressure drop from ambient is less than 0.

CAUTION: When working inside the monitor, be very careful not to dislodge any electrical wiring or pneumatic tubing. The HGMSZ contains sensitive electronic components that can be easily damaged.
