6 A M COAXIAL FM 75 FM 75 AM Getting Started Hooking up the system Do the following procedure 1 to 4 to hook up your system using the supplied cords and accessories. AM loop antenna FM antenna Right speaker Left speaker 1 Connect the speakers. Connect the speaker cords to the SPEAKER jacks as below.
7 Getting Started 3 For models with a voltage selector, set VOLTAGE SELECTOR to the position of your local power line voltage. 4 Connect the power cord to a wall outlet. The demonstration appears in the display. When you press ?/1 , the system turns on and the demonstration automatically ends.
8 Setting the time 1 Turn on the system. 2 Press c /CLOCK SET. When you set the time for the first time, skip to the step 5. 3 Press v / V repeatedly to select SET CLOCK. 4 Press ENTER/NEXT. 5 Press v / V repeatedly to set the hour. 6 Press ENTER/NEXT.
9 CD DOLBY NR VOLUME OFF Loading the CD 1 Press PUSH OPEN. The front cover opens. 2 Place a CD with the label side up on the disc tray. To insert additional discs, press DISC SKIP to rotate the disc tray. 3 Close the front cover. Playing the CD –– Normal Play/Shuffle Play/Repeat Play This unit lets you play the CD in different play modes.
10 Playing CDs without interruption –– Non-Stop Play You can play CDs without pausing between tracks. 1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “CD” appears, then load a CD. 2 Press NON STOP so that the indicator on this button lights up. 3 Press HX .
11 CD DJ Effects Looping and flashing part of a CD With the loop function, you can repeat part of a CD during playback. With the flash function, you can “ flash ” part of a CD sound during playback. Both functions let you create original recordings.
12 Tuner Presetting radio stations You can preset 20 stations for FM and 10 stations for AM. 1 Press TUNER/BAND repeatedly until the band you want appears. Each time you press this button, the band changes as follows: FM y AM 2 Press TUNING MODE repeatedly until “ AUTO ” appears.
13 Tuner MHz DOLBY NR VOLUME OFF Listening to the radio –– Preset Tuning Preset radio stations in the tuner's memory first (see “ Presetting radio stations ” on page 12). 1 Press TUNER/BAND repeatedly until the band you want appears. 2 Press TUNING MODE repeatedly until “ PRESET ” appears.
14 Locating a station by program type (PTY) You can locate a station you want by selecting a program type. The tuner tunes in the type of programs currently being broadcast from the RDS stations stored in the tuner ’ s preset memory.
15 Tape Loading a tape 1 Press A EJECT Z or Z B EJECT. 2 Insert a tape in deck A or B with the side you want to play facing forward. Playing a tape You can play any type of tape. TYPE I (normal), TYPE II (CrO 2 ), or TYPE IV (metal). The deck automatically detects the tape type.
16 Recording to a tape –– CD Synchro Recording/High Speed Dubbing/Recording Manually/ Program Edit You can record from a CD, tape or radio. You can use TYPE I (normal) or TYPE II (CrO 2 ) tapes.
17 Tape To Check the setting Cancel timer operation Notes • The system turns on 15 seconds before the preset time. • If the system is on at the preset time, the Timer recording will not be made. • When you use the Sleep Timer, Daily Timer and Timer recording will not turn on the system until the Sleep Timer turns it off.
18 Sound Adjustment Adjusting the sound To reinforce lower bass sound (SUPER WOOFER) Press SUPER WOOFER. Each time you press this button, the super woofer level display changes cyclically as follows: SUPER WOOFER FLAT t LOW t HIGH To select the super woofer mode Press SUPER WOOFER MODE while the super woofer is on.
19 Sound adjustment Frequency level Making a personal audio emphasis file –– Personal File You can create personal files of audio patterns (surround effect and graphic equalizer) and store them in the system ’ s memory. Later, you can call up an audio pattern when playing a favorite tape, CD, or radio program.
20 Notes • With some songs, vocals may not be canceled when you select “ MIX GUITAR/KARAOKE. ” • During MIX GUITAR/KARAOKE, equalizer and surround settings cannot be changed.
21 Other Features Press SLEEP once. SLEEP to select the time you want. SLEEP repeatedly until “ SLEEP OFF ” appears. Playing a guitar You can enjoy playing the guitar by connecting an electric guitar to the GUITAR jack on the front panel.

26 T roubleshooting If you run into any problem using this unit, use the following check list. First, check that the power cord is connected firmly and the speakers are connected correctly and firmly. Should any problem persist, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
