5 Getting started Getting star ted Assembly Before you start u sing your phone , you need to i nsert a SI M card and the battery. To insert the SIM card 1 Remove the battery cover. 2 Slide the SIM card for ward (1), and then backwards under the holder (2) - with the gold -coloured contacts facing down .

20 Calling To add a call list number to contacts 1 From standb y press and scroll to a tab. 2 Scroll to the number and s elect Save . 3 Select New cont act to create a new contact or select an existing co ntact to add the num ber to. Speed dial Speed dialli ng lets you select nine contacts that you can dial q uickly.
21 Calling 4 Follow the instructio ns that app ear. Wait for the tone and say the command to recor d. The voic e command is playe d back to yo u. 5 If the recording sounds OK, select Yes . If not, sel ect No and re peat s teps 3 and 4. Voice dialling You can hear your recorded contact name when you receive a call from tha t co ntac t.
22 Messaging To activate voice answ ering and record voice answ er commands 1 From standb y select Me nu > Settings > the General tab > Voice cont rol > Voic e answer > Activat e . 2 Follow the instruct ions that appear and select Cont.
23 Messaging Create message s with text and symbols only, to send as text messages (SMS). Add pictures, v ideo, sounds and more to me ssages to send a s picture me ssages (MMS) .You can send picture messa ges to a mobile phone or an email address. You can also create a nd use tem plates for your message s.
24 Messaging A message automati cally converts fro m bein g a text mess age (S MS) to a pi cture message (MMS) if yo u use toolbar options such as add ing pictures, sounds or more. If you use text only , the message stay s as a text message. To copy and paste text in a message 1 When you write your message select Options > Copy & paste .

39 Troubleshooting Phone mode Before synchronising or using your phone as a modem you must install the optional Sony Ericsson PC Suite soft wa re o n you r co mp ute r. Thi s version of the V 640i product does not contain the Sony Ericsson PC Suite softwa re.
40 Tr oubl esh ooti ng I cannot charg e the pho ne or battery capacity is low The charger i s not proper ly connected or the battery connection is poor. Remove the ba ttery and cle an the con nect or s. The batte ry is worn out and needs to be replaced .
41 Troubleshooting I canno t synchronise or trans fer data betw een my phon e and my comput er, when using an optional USB cable. The cable or so ftware that came wi th your phone has not been properly installed.
