4 Getting Started Getting S t arted This User guide describe s how to set up and use BlackBerry® service on yo ur phone. There are two versions of BlackBerry se rvice available; one for corporate users (using Blac kBerry® Enterp rise Server) and one for W eb mail users (using BlackBerry® Internet Service).
Using BlackBerry Connect 5 Using BlackBerry Connect BlackBerry Enterprise Soluti on, BlackBerry Internet Service, and System Inbo x are listed as separate BlackBerry Connect accounts in Messaging. If you are using BlackBerry Enterprise Solution, you can also have up to el even BlackBerry Internet Service email accounts set up.
6 Using BlackBerry Connect Email folders The current folder name is shown in the T itle bar at the top. T o change folders, select More > V iew folder and select the folder you want to view . BlackBerry Connect accounts always have the following folders: Inbox , Outbox , Drafts and Sent.
Using BlackBerry Connect 7 Sent – contains messages you have sent from your phone. If sent items synchron ization is enabled, sent items from your PC mail client are also displayed. My folders – contains your person alized folders. For a personalized folder to be available you must first create it using the email program on your PC.
8 Using BlackBerry Connect Select the Address, Subject, and Message fields to enter the required information. Tip T o enter several addr esses, use a comma between each addr ess. • If you switch to anothe r task before sending the message, the message will be kept open until you return to Messaging.

10 Using BlackBerry Connect T o save an attachment, for example a picture: 1. Open the email messag e and select the tab. 2. Select the attachment, the Incomplete message dialog opens. Select Ye s to download the picture. 3. Select the file, which opens the Picture viewer application and di splays the image.
Using BlackBerry Connect 11 Navigating a spreadsheet Quicksheet allows you to view and edit spread sheets on your phone. Summary of some of the Quicksheet features: • If the document has more than one sheet, select the required sheet’ s tab. • T o resize a column select and drag the border between the column headings.
12 Using BlackBerry Connect T o view attachment s with the BlackBerry Att achment Vi e w e r : 1. Open the tab. 2. Select V iew attachments . The Attachments screen is displayed. 3. Open the attachment’ s table of content and select the section of the attachment you want to view or select Full Content in the More menu to display the whole file.
Using BlackBerry Connect 13 2. Choose a name for your filter . 3. Specify the filter cr iteria. Y ou can use any combination of the criteria available to meet your preferences. 4. Choose if email messages that meet the criteria are to be forwarded to your phone or not.
14 Using BlackBerry Connect Tip T o empty the Deleted Items folder with your phone: select Purge deleted in the More menu fr om your BlackBerry Co nnect account. Reconcile BlackBerry service synchron izes the information held on your PC and your phone at set points during the day .
Using BlackBerry Connect 15 – Specify a time for the meeting by tapping above or below the time field to increase or decrease the number . When you specify a time for a meeting it is always se t to your phone’ s local time. T o check your loca l time settings select in the status bar .
16 Using BlackBerry Connect 6. BlackBerry Connect software automatically checks your calendar and enters the meet ings details. If the calendar already has an appointment entered during the meeting time a conflict is re gistered.
Using BlackBerry Connect 17 5. The matching entries are displayed on the screen. If there are more than 20 matches, select Next matches to retrieve the next 20 matches. Retrieving More is displayed on the screen while the entries are downloaded. Note: Matching entries ar e displayed with last name, first name.
18 Using BlackBerry Connect Y o u can view the maximu m number of messages that can be locked; see Info tab on page 21 for more information. If you have reached the maximum number of messages that can be locked on your phone, a dialog is displayed. Select Continue to close the dialog and, if appropriate, unlo ck messages that you no longer require.
Using BlackBerry Connect 19 Tip Lock the message, or save attachments to your phone’ s internal or external memory , if you want to keep the message or its attachment s. Y ou can still delete a locked message manually . Y ou may need to delete me ssages to create more storage space on your ph one.
20 Using BlackBerry Connect T o turn BlackBerry service off: 1. Select > More > Settings , in the status bar of your phone. 2. Select Off at the bottom of the BlackBerry Connect application screen. Th e icon changes to . T o turn BlackBerry service on: The BlackBerry Connect icon is dimmed in the status bar when it is turned of f .
Using BlackBerry Connect 21 • Overwrite phone Calendar – choose to overwrite the phone Calendar or to mer ge your corporate calendar with the phone Calendar .
22 Using BlackBerry Connect Policy last updated – this field shows the date the IT Policy associated wi th your phone was last updated. Maximum messages – the maximum messages field specifies the total nu mber of mess ages you can store in each BlackBerry Connect mailbox.
Using BlackBerry Connect 23 3. Select Advanced in the Service information dialog to see details about the BlackBerry Enterprise Server your phone corresponds with. Tip These two dialog s contain techni cal information that you may need to supp ly if you experience any difficulties with your BlackBerry service.
24 Using BlackBerry Connect • When registration is complete a dialog appears confirming the regi stration. Select Continue . • If registration fails, tu rn the BlackBerry service of f and on again, or restar t your phone. If this problem persists contact your IT administrator .
Using BlackBerry Connect 25 Backing up and restoring Tip It is r ecommended that y ou turn BlackBerry service off befor e using the Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones to connect your phone with your PC.
26 Using BlackBerry Connect do not help, go to www .blackberry .com/support . This site also contains other useful information. For additional support, contac t your servic e provider . Messages deleted on the ph one are not deleted in my corporate mail program.
Using BlackBerry Connect 27 Address Lookup is not available. Address Lookup is only available with BlackBerry Enterprise Solution accounts. Check that you are not in Flight mode and that you have an Address Lookup service book entry in the Se rvice tab in the BlackBerry Connect application.
28 Using BlackBerry Connect I cannot synchronize T asks with the Sony Ericsson PC Suite for Smartphones. When the BlackBerry [C alendar] service book is installed local sync hronization is di sabled, you must manually move tasks betwee n the phone and your PC.
