10 Wir e Guide The Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock has a wire guide a t the top r ear that can help you t o organize the cables and wir es connected t o the dock. If you need to bring a cable or wir e from one side of the dock t o the other , utilize the wire guide b y looping the cable though the wire guide as shown.

Step 1: Choose a L ocation for Y our Radio When installing On yx in y our v ehicle, choose a location wher e it will not block your vision, int erfere with the contr ols, or obstruct the air bag.

13 Step 2: Ins tall the Dash or V ent Mount Depending on your situa tion, you can either choose t o use the Dash Mount or the V ent Mount. IMPORT ANT! When you install the chosen mount, do not attach the dock to the mount. All cables should be attached to the dock prior t o connecting the dock to the mount.
14 3 The dock mounting plat e can be tilted in differ ent directions. Adjus t as necessary f or your particular v ehicle. When the orientation is corr ect, tighten the knob. 4 Befor e you attach the Dash Mount to the dash, skip ahead and finish the remainder of the v ehicle installation so that the cables ar e attached to the dock.
15 Installing the V ent Mount: 1 Locate a v ent with horizontal louvers s turdy enough to hold y our Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock and Radio. 2 If the vent louv ers in your v ehicle are rec essed, y ou may need to use the longer vent clamps with the V ent Mount.
16 3 Befor e you attach the V ent Mount to the v ent, skip ahead and finish the remainder of the v ehicle installation so that the cables are attached to the dock. Note! For gr eater clarity , the next illus tration does not sho w the dock attached to the V ent Mount, howe ver , the dock should be attached before continuing.
17 Step 3: Mount the Magnetic Mount Ant enna Mount the Magnetic Mount Antenna on the outside of y our vehicle, on a horizontal surfac e that will alway s face the sky . The antenna c ontains a str ong magnet which will stick to an y metal part of your v ehicle, but will not damage the vehicle .
18 SUV: W e rec ommend mounting the antenna at the r ear of the roof as sho wn. Conv ertible: W e recommend mounting the ant enna at the leading edge of the trunk as shown. Pickup T ruck: W e rec ommend mounting the antenna just abo ve the front windshield as sho wn.
19 3 If you ar e installing the antenna at the r oof edge, or hood edge, install the Cable Routing A dapter to direct the ant enna cable down ward. Place the antenna wire int o the groo ve of the Cabl.
20 TIP! Mount the antenna on the roof (for mos t vehicles ) or trunk (for con vertibles) wher e it has a clear view of the sk y in all directions. 4 Place the antenna in the loca tion you select ed. Follow the T ips and Cautions shown on the ne xt sev eral pages.
21 CAUTION! Don’t mount the ant enna inside the vehicle , for e xample, on the dashboar d. CAUTION! Don’t mount the ant enna on any of the v ehicle’s front, back or side pillars.

23 Step 4: R oute the Magnetic Mount Antenna Cable Befor e you begin r outing the antenna cable, read these gener al instructions for ho w to r oute and hide the antenna cable . Then r oute your antenna cable accor ding to the instructions which follo w for your specific type of v ehicle.

27 TIP! Alwa ys be car eful to include enough slack in y our cable to accommodat e open doors or trunk lids. Use things typically found around the home, lik e electrical tape, to secure cables in ar eas so that hinges do not pinch the cable with the door .
28 Sedan/ Coupe With Antenna Plac ed at the Rear of the Roof: 1 Feed the antenna cable fr om the antenna underneath the rubber molding around the r ear window . Use a blunt plastic putty knife or similar blunt tool to lift the rubber molding ar ound the rear window and tuck the antenna cable underneath the molding.

34 Step 5: C onnect the Magnetic Mount Antenna and P owe r Connect Po wer A dapter 1 Plug the Magnetic Mount Antenna into the silv er ANT connector on the Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock. 2 Insert the Powe r Connect Pow er Adapter into y our vehicle’s cigar ette lighter or po wer adapter sock et.
35 Step 6: C onnect the Audio T o play XM audio through y our vehicle’ s stereo or FM r adio, decide on one of the follo wing audio connection options: • Option 1 : Best : Use the pr ovided A ux In Cable if your vehicle’ s ster eo sy stem has an auxiliary input c onnection or jack.
36 Option 1: Aux In Cable Installation Ins tructions 1 Plug one end of the Aux In Cable into the gr een AUDIO connector on the dock. 2 Plug the other end into the auxiliary input jack of your vehicle’ s ster eo sy stem. 3 Attach the dock t o the mount.

Upon pow er up, Onyx should tune to channel 1 by def ault, when it ’ s not yet activ ated. If it’s not on channel 1, ref er to “List ening to Sat ellite Radio” on page 50 to learn about ho w to tune a channel.
38 Option 2: Cassette A dapter Installation Ins tructions 1 Plug the Cassette A dapter into the green AUDIO connector on the dock. 2 Insert the Cassette A dapter into the v ehicle’s cassette deck. Y ou may need to turn on y our vehicle’s s tereo sy stem in order t o do so.

45 Y ou can follo w either the general activ ation and subscription process or use the on-board activ ation guide to activat e your Onyx and subscribe t o the XM service.

49 Menu Button Pres sing menu displa ys v arious options to make setup and featur e changes. Pres sing menu when in menu options returns t o the pre vious menu option screen until menu options is e xited. Pressing and holding menu r eturns to the main displa y screen in most ins tances.
50 List ening to Sat ellite Radio T une to a channel: 1 Pres s and release and to immediately tune t o the next or pre vious channel. 2 Pres s and hold and to quickly scroll thr ough the channels.
51 Direct T une A channel can be tuned directly b y entering the channel number using the number buttons. 1 T o directly tune to a channel pr ess direct . 2 Use the number buttons 0 - 9 to enter the channel number and wait a moment until the channel is tuned, or pres s the Select button to immediately tune t o the channel.
52 Fa vorit e Channels Y ou can set up to 10 of y our fav orite channels so you can easily acc ess them. Each fa vorit e channel can be assigned to a number button. T o assign a fa vorite channel t o a number button: 1 T une to the desired channel. 2 Press and hold a number button between 0 - 9 th at y ou want to assign to that f av orite channel.
53 Scanning Channels in a Category Y ou can scan a category and list en to each channel for 10 seconds befor e Onyx aut omatically tunes to the next channel. If y ou want to sta y tuned to the channel being play ed and stop the scan, just pr ess the Select button .
54 FM Presets FM presets mak e it easy to quickly acc ess st ored FM channels and choose a new FM channel fr om them. Us e FM pr esets when you use Power Connect or the FMD A to list en to y our Onyx through y our vehicle’ s FM radio . (Refer to “Option 3: Powe r Connect Installation Instructions” on page 40 f or more informa tion.
55 Color Themes Y ou can change the color of the displa y screen t o one of 6 color themes: Blue, Red, Amber , Y ellow , Silver , or T eal. Y ou can choose the display color that matches y our dash lights, and personalize with the trim rings. The default color theme is blue .
56 T rim Rings Y our Onyx has a changeable T rim Ring to style the Radio to y our liking. The T rim Ring surrounds the Select button on the Radio . A total of thr ee trim rings are included with y our Onyx, including the one that is alr eady installed in the Radio.
57 1 Place the T rim Ring Remo val T ool on the T rim Ring on the Radio. Use care t o align the tool so it’ s center ed on the T rim Ring. 2 Using mild pres sure t o keep the t ool against the T rim Ring, rotate the tool count er-clockwise until it will not rotat e any further .
58 4 T urn the Radio face up again and insert the new T rim Ring into the Radio. 5 Align the T rim Ring Remov al T ool on the T rim Ring on the Radio. Use care t o align the tool so it’ s center ed on the T rim Ring.
59 Par ental Contr ols Onyx has a par ental control featur e which allows y ou to lock acces s to channels, or lock acces s to an entire category . A 4-digit code controls acces s to the locked channel or lock ed category .
60 Y ou will be prompt ed to select a 4-digit code: i. For each digit, pr ess one of the 0 - 9 ke ys and then pres s to advanc e to the next digit. (Pr ess if you need t o go back and edit a pre vious digit.) ii. W hen you ha ve selected all 4 digits of your c ode press the Select button .

65 Radio ID Y our Onyx has an 8 char acter alphanumeric ID which uniquely identifies your Radio . This ID is used during the subscription proc ess. T o display the Radio ID: 1 Pres s menu . 2 Radio ID will be highlighted. If it is not highlighted, pr ess to scroll t o and highlight Radio ID .
66 Find A vailable FM Channels in Y our Ar ea Befor e attempting any of the pr ocedures belo w , you should park y our vehicle in a saf e location. Do not attempt to set up y our FM channels or any Onyx function while driving. Powe r Connect allows y ou to listen t o SiriusXM through your e xisting vehicle radio .

69 Set and Select an FM Channel Onyx allo ws you t o easily stor e (i.e., preset) up t o 5 different FM channels. At an y time, you can select any one of these 5 FM pr esets to hear SiriusXM through y our existing v ehicle radio.

72 Jump Settings The jump button can be c onfigured to either jump to the tr affic and weather f or the city of your choice fr om a list of 22 of the most congest ed cities, or to jump back to the last channel to which y ou wer e listening. W hen configuring for tr affic/w eather , y ou’ll need to select your city .

75 Signal Indicator For best r eception, your Magnetic Mount Ant enna should hav e an unobstructed vie w of the XM satellites. In lar ge cities, there ar e terrestrial transmitt ers (ground r epeaters ) to help incr ease the signal co verage . Y our Onyx can displa y the receiv ed strength of the satellit e and terr estrial signals being rec eived.
76 F actory Settings The factory settings menu has tw o choices, AU X Detect and Restore Defaults . AUX Detect AU X Detect allo ws On yx to aut omatically detect a connection made t o the AUDIO connector of the Power Connect V ehicle Dock by an A ux In Cable or Cassette Adapt er .
77 3 AU X Detect should be highlighted and show as enabled. Pr ess the Select button to t oggle the setting. 4 A warning scr een will be displayed. Pres s the Select button to c onfirm that y ou want t o disable AU X Detect. 5 If you w ant to cancel pr ess menu to r eturn to F actory Settings .
78 Rest ore Defaults Y ou can clear all of your personal settings, such as f avorit e channels, FM presets, et c., and return the Radio t o its original out-of-the-bo x settings T o reset O nyx to f actory defaults: NOTE! R estoring def aults permanently remo ves all personal settings.
79 Demo Mode Y our Onyx has a demo mode that s tarts playing when, for a prolonged period of time (more than 5 minut es), the Radio either det ects it’s not connect ed to the antenna, or the antenna s tops receiving a signal. It disappears when the antenna is connect ed properly or when the Radio starts rec eiving a signal.
80 Select button . The demo mode will start in 10 seconds. 6 T o exit demo mode at an y time, pres s and hold the Select button for 10 seconds. Aut o Shut Off Onyx will aut omatically shut off after 8 hours of inactivity , i.e., when no buttons hav e been pressed.
81 Using the V ehicle Dock From the Univ ersal Xpress Car Kit If you ha ve chosen to use the V ehicle Dock from the Univ ersal Xpres s Car Kit rather than the Power Connect V ehicle Dock included with your Ony x Radio, you will need t o complete some additional installation st eps.
82 T urn FM T ransmitter On/ Off T urning the FM T ransmitt er On applies only if you ar e using the older model V ehicle Dock from the Universal Xpr ess Car Kit, and plan to use SureConnect or FMD A as the audio connection option. Y ou’ll hav e to turn On the FM T ransmitter under the FM Settings menu.
83 T o turn the FM Tr ansmitter Off: If you ar e using the older model V ehicle Dock from the Univ ersal Xpress Car Kit, and plan to use the Aux In Cable or a Cas sette A dapter as the audio connection option, y ou’ll have t o turn the FM T ransmitter under the FM Settings menu in Onyx Off , if it was pr eviously turned On.
84 Onyx has been designed and built t o be trouble-fr ee but if you e xperience a problem, try this: • Check that all connections are firm and secur e. • Make sure the v ehicle pow er socket is clean and free of c orrosion. • Make sure y ou hav e connected Onyx as described in this User Guide .
