Step 1: Choose a L ocation for Y our Radio When installing Starmat e 8 in your v ehicle, choose a location wher e it will not block your vision, int erfere with the c ontrols, or obstruct the air bag.

12 V ehicle Installa tion Step 2: Ins tall the V ent or Dash Mount Follo w the instructions on the next se veral pages f or the mounting method you ha ve select ed. NOTE! The Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock included with Starmate 8 is compatible with the T -slot style Dash and V ent Mounts.
13 V ehicle Installa tion corr ect, tighten the knob. 4. A ttach the Dash Mount to the Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock using the pro vided scre ws. 5. Clean the mounting surfac e in the vehicle with the alcohol pr eparation pad and let it dry thoroughly .
14 V ehicle Installa tion Installing the V ent Mount: 1. Locate a v ent with horizontal louvers s turdy enough to hold y our Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock and Starmate 8 Radio . 2. If the vent louv ers in your v ehicle are rec essed, you ma y need to use the longer vent clamps with the V ent Mount.
15 3. Attach the V ent Mount to the Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock using the pro vided scre ws. Note! For gr eater clarity , the ne xt illustra tion does not show the dock attached to the V ent Mount, how ev er , the dock should be attached befor e continuing.
16 V ehicle Installa tion Step 3: Mount the Magnetic Mount Ant enna Mount the Magnetic Mount Antenna on the outside of y our vehicle , on a horizontal surfac e that will alwa ys fac e the sky . The ant enna contains a str ong magnet which will stick to any metal part of y our v ehicle, but will not damage the vehicle .
17 SUV: W e recommend mounting the antenna a t the rear of the roof as sho wn. Conv ertible: W e recommend mounting the antenna a t the leading edge of the trunk as shown. Pickup T ruck: W e recommend mounting the antenna abo ve the fr ont windshield as shown.
18 V ehicle Installa tion 2 Attach the Rubber T ail t o the antenna and pres s the antenna cable into the Rubber T ail. The Rubber T ail will help to position the antenna the c orrect distance fr om the edge of the roof or trunk lid.
19 TIP! Mount the antenna on the roof (for mos t vehicles) or trunk (for con vertibles ) where it has a clear view of the sk y in all directions. V ehicle Installa tion.
20 V ehicle Installa tion TIP! Mount the antenna on the r oof where it has at least 3 inches of clear space around it. 3” TIP! Use the supplied Rubber T ail to cov er and prot ect the antenna cable. CAUTION! Don’t mount the ant enna closer than 3 inches from the edge of the roof .
21 CAUTION! Don’t mount the ant enna inside the vehicle , for ex ample, on the dashboard. CAUTION! Don’t mount the ant enna on any of the v ehicle’s fr ont, back or side pillars.

27 TIP! Alwa ys be careful t o include enough slack in your cable to ac commodate open doors or trunk lids. Use things typically found around the home , like electrical tape, to secur e cables in areas so that hinges do not pinch the cable with the door .

Use a blunt plastic putty knife or similar blunt tool to lift the rubber molding ar ound the rear windo w and tuck the antenna cable underneath the molding.

Plug the Magnetic Mount Antenna into the silver ANT c onnector on the Powe r Connect V ehicle Dock. 2. Insert the Powe r Connect Pow er Adapter into y our vehicle’ s cigarett e lighter or pow er adapter sock et.
35 Step 6: C onnect the Audio T o play Sirius audio thr ough your v ehicle’s st ereo or FM r adio, decide on one of the follo wing audio connection options: • Option 1 : Best : Use the pro vided Aux In Cable if y our vehicle’ s ster eo sy stem has an auxiliary input connection or jack.
36 Option 1: Aux In Cable Installation Ins tructions 1. Plug one end of the Aux In Cable into the green A UDIO connector on the dock. 2. Plug the other end into the auxiliary input jack of your vehicle’ s stereo s ystem.

38 Option 2: Cassette A dapter Installation Instructions 1. Plug the Cassette Adapt er into the green AUDIO connector on the dock. 2. Insert the Cassette A dapter into the v ehicle’s cassett e deck. Y ou may need to turn on your v ehicle’s ster eo sy stem in order t o do so.

44 V ehicle Installation Option 4: FM Direct A dapter (FMD A) Installation The FMD A needs to be installed by a pr ofessional installer . Professional installation can help impr ov e your Radio’ s rec eption and significantly reduc e the visibility of wires.
45 Y ou can either follow the gener al activation and subscription pr ocess or use the on-board activ ation guide to activ ate y our Starmate 8 and subscribe to the Sirius service. General activ ation and subscription process: Subscribe to the Sirius service b y following these steps: 1.
46 5. Activ ation usually takes less than 5 minutes after y ou hav e completed the subscription proc ess, but sometimes may tak e longer . W e rec ommend that your Radio r emain on until activat ed. When y our service is activat ed, Starmate 8 will displa y an alert message.

58 Color Themes Y ou can change the color of the display scr een to one of 6 color themes: Blue, Red, Amber , Y ellow , Silv er , or T eal. Y ou can choose the displa y color that matches y our dash lights, and personalize with the trim rings. The default color theme is blue .
59 Par ental Controls Starmate 8 has a par ental contr ol feature which allo ws y ou to lock acc ess to channels, or lock acc ess to an entir e category .

74 Jump Settings The jump button can be c onfigured t o either jump to the traffic and weather f or the city of your choic e from a list of 22 of the most c ongested cities, or to jump back to the pr evious channel t o which you w ere list ening. When configuring f or traffic/ weather , y ou’ll need to select y our city .

76 Set Audio Le vel The audio le vel of Starmat e 8 can be adjusted when an audio c onnection is made between the dock and the v ehicle’s ster eo sys tem . Audio le vel is used to adjust Starma te 8’s volume le vel to mat ch the volume of other audio sourc es you ma y use, such as a CD play er , other FM stations, or an MP3 play er .
77 Signal Indicator For best r eception, y our Magnetic Mount Antenna should hav e an unobstructed vie w of the Sirius satellit es. In large cities, there ar e terr estrial transmitt ers (gr ound repeaters ) to help increase the signal c ov erage.
78 Aut o Shut Off When enabled, Aut o Shut Off will automatically turn Starmate 8 off after an eight hour period of inactivity (no button pr esses or other user interv ention). This featur e pre vents the v ehicle battery from being discharged if y ou for get to turn your Starmate 8 off .
79 F actory Settings Y ou can clear all of your personal settings, such as fa vorit e channels, FM presets, et c., and return the Radio to its original out-of-the-bo x settings. T o reset Starmate 8 t o factory settings: NOTE! R estoring to f actory settings permanently remo ves all personal settings.
80 Demo Mode Y our Starmate 8 has a demo mode that starts pla ying when, for a prolonged period of time (more than 1 hour), the Radio either det ects it’s not connect ed to the antenna, or the ant enna stops r eceiving a signal. It disappears when the antenna is connect ed properly or when the Radio starts r eceiving a signal.

84 If this happens: T ry this: Audio fades or has sta tic when listening • Check all cables for a firm and secure connection. • If you are using Power Connect to list en via your vehicle’ s FM radio , and the problem persists, it most likely is int erferenc e from another commer cial or broadcast FM station.
