About this Document This manual is intended for administrators and users of AXIS M1 124–E Network Camera, and is applicable to rmware 5.70 and later . It includes instructions for using and managing the product on your network. Previous experience of networking will be of use when using this product.
The power supply used with this product shall fulll the requirements for Safety Extra Low V oltage (SELV) and Limited P ower Source (LPS) according to IEC/EN/UL 60950-1. Battery The Axis product uses a 3.0 V BR/CR2032 lithium battery as the power supply for its internal real-time clock (RTC).

AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Hardware Overview • Digital output – For connecting external devices such as relays and LEDs. Connected devices can be activated by the VAPIX® Application Programming Interface, output buttons on the Live View page or by an Action Rule.

AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Access the Product Access the Product To install the Axis product, see the Installation Guide supplied with the product. The product can be used with most operating systems and browsers.

AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Access the Product Select a stream prole for the Live View page from the Stream Prole drop-down list. For information about how to congure stream proles, see page 2 1 . Click Pulse to activate the product’s output port for a dened period of time.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Access the Product The Snapshot button takes a snapshot of the video image. The location where the image is saved can be specied in the AMC Control P anel. Click the View Full Screen button and the video image will ll the entire screen.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Media Streams Media Streams The Axis product provides several video stream formats. Y our requirements and the properties of your network will determine the type you use. The Live View page in the product provides access to H.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Media Streams The AMC Control P anel can be used to congure various video settings. Please see the AXIS Media Control User’s Manual for more information. The AMC Control P anel is automatically installed on rst use, after which it can be congured.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Media Streams Note • <ip>= IP addess • The Axis product supports QuickTime 6.5.1 and later . • QuickTime may add latency to the video stream. • It may be possible to use other players to view the H.264 stream using the paths above, although Axis does not guarantee this.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Set Up the Product Set Up the Product The Axis product can be congured by users with administrator or operator rights. T o open the product’s Setup pages, click Setup in the top right-hand corner of the Live View page.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video Video It is possible to congure the following video features in your Axis product: • Video stream. See page 19 . • Stream proles. See page 2 1 . • Camera settings. See page 2 1 . • View areas. See page 23 .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video Click Save to apply the new settings. H.264 H.264, also known as MPEG-4 P art 1 0/AVC, is a video compression standard that provides high quality video streams at low bit rates. An H.264 video stream consists of different types of frames such as I-frames and P-frames.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video Lowest Zipstream strength is the default setting for the product. This conguration is very safe to use in all applications while still reducing the bit rate.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video White Balance To change this setting go to Setup > Video > Camera Settings White balance is used to make colors in the image appear the same regardless of the color temperature of the light source. The Axis product can be set to automatically identify the light source and compensate for its color .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video Iris adjustment Select Enable automatic iris adjustment to automatically compensate for changing light conditions. This option is not available if a xed iris is used. Day/Night The IR cut lter prevents infrared (IR) light from reaching the image sensor .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video It is also possible to display text when an action rule is triggered, see Use Overlay Text in an Action Rule . To enable overlays: 1. Go to Video > Video Stream and select the Image tab. 2. T o include an overlay image, select Include overlay image at the coordinates .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Video To display the overlay image: 1. Go to Video > Video Stream and select the Image tab. 2. Under Overlay Settings , select Include overlay image at the coordinates . 3. T o control the image’s position, enter the X and Y coordinates.

AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Configure the Live View Page Configure the Live View Page Y ou can customize the Live View page and alter it to suit your requirements. It is possible to dene the following features of the Live View page. • Stream Prole.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Configure the Live View Page • Select Use PTZ joystick mode as default to enable joystick mode. The mode can be changed temporarily from the PTZ control panel. • Select Enable recording button to enable recording from the Live View page.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) PTZ (Pan T ilt Zoom) The PTZ menu is available if digital PTZ (pan, tilt and zoom) is enabled in the selected view area.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) 3. Specify the pause length between runs. 4. Select an available preset position and click Apply . 5. Specify the View Time in seconds or minutes. 6. Specify the View Order or select the Random view order option.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) 2. Event — The Axis product can be congured to go to a preset position when triggered by an alarm (see Events on page 37 ). The event will immediately be placed rst in the queue except when an administrator is in control.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Detectors Detectors Camera T ampering Camera T ampering can generate an alarm whenever the camera is repositioned, or when the lens is covered, spray-painted or severely defocused. To send an alarm, for example an email, an action rule must be set up.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Detectors Note • Using the motion detection feature may decrease the product’s overall performance. • The position of the Motion Detection Window is relative to the orientation of the Camera. Changing the orientation of the camera will also change the position of the Motion Detection Window .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Detectors Note • T o trigger on small objects or movements, use several small motion detection windows rather than one large window and select a low object size. • T o avoid triggering on small objects, select a high object size.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Applications Applications Third party applications can be uploaded to and installed on the Axis product. Applications add functionality to the product, for example video analytics and intelligent video capabilities such as recognition, tracking, detection and counting.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Applications If the Axis product is reset to factory default, installed applications and their settings are removed. For information about factory default, see Reset to Factory Default Settings .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Events Events The Event pages allow you to congure the Axis product to perform actions when different events occur . For example, the product can start a recording or send an email notication when motion is detected.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Events - Day/Night Mode – T rigger the rule when the product switches between day mode (IR cut lter on) and night mode (IR cut lter off). This can for example be used to control an external infrared (IR) light connected to an output port.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Events Actions Available actions include: • Day/Night Vision Mode – Set day mode (IR cut lter on) or night mode (IR cut lter off). • Output P ort – Activate an I/O port to control an external device. • Overlay T ext – Display an overlay text.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Events FTP Send Images Send Video Clip SFTP Send Images Send Video Clip Encrypted le transfer using SSH File T ransport Protocol (SFTP). SFTP is a more secure method than FTP but le transfer might be slower , especially for large les such as high resolution video.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Events certicate can be validated using the certicates available in the Axis product. For information on how to upload certicates, see Certicates on page 46 .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Recordings Recordings The Axis product can be congured to record video continuously or according to an action rule: • To start a continuous recording, see page 43 . • To set up action rules, see page 37 . • To access recordings, see Find Recordings on page 42 .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Recordings To play a recording, follow these steps: 1. Go to Recordings > List . 2. T o reduce the number of recordings displayed, select the desired options under Filter and click the Filter button to apply the lters.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Languages Languages Multiple languages can be installed in the Axis product. All web pages including the online help will be displayed in the selected language. T o switch languages, go to Setup > Languages and rst upload the new language le.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options System Options Security Users User access control is enabled by default and can be congured under System Options > Security > Users . An administrator can set up other users by giving them user names and passwords.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options 2. Select an HTTPS certicate from the list of installed certicates. 3. Optionally , click Ciphers and select the encryption algorithms to use for SSL. 4. Set the HTTPS Connection P olicy for the different user groups.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options A Server/Client certicate can be self-signed or issued by a Certicate Authority (CA). A self-signed certicate offers limited protection and can be used before a CA-issued certicate has been obtained.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options IPv4 Address Conguration By default, the Axis product is set to use IPv4 (IP version 4) and to obtain the IP address automatically via DHCP . The IPv4 settings are congured under System Options > Network > TCP/IP > Basic .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options 5. Close the command prompt when the product responds with Reply from 192.168.0.125:... or similar . 6. Open a browser and type http://<IP address> in the Location/Address eld.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options NTP Conguration NTP (Network Time Protocol) is used to synchronize the clock times of devices in a network. The NTP settings are congured under System Options > Network > T CP/IP > Advanced .
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options Use manually selected NA T router - Select this option to manually select a NA T router and enter the IP address for the router in the eld. If no router is specied, the product automatically searches for NA T routers on your network.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options Traps are used by the Axis product to send messages to a management system on important events and status changes. Check Enable traps and enter the IP address where the trap message should be sent and the Trap community that should receive the message.

AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options 1. Insert the SD card in the SD card slot. 2. Open the Axis product’s webpages and go to Setup > System Options > Storage . 3. Click SD Card . 4. Click Format and select the desired le system. 5.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options Note A restart clears all entries in the Server Report. Click Restore to reset most settings to the factory default values.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options P arameter List - Shows the product's parameters and their current settings. This may prove useful when troubleshooting or when contacting Axis Support. Connection List - Lists all clients that are currently accessing media streams.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera System Options 5. Using the installation and management software tools, assign an IP address, set the password, and access the video stream. It is also possible to reset parameters to factory default via the web interface.
AXIS M1124–E Network Camera Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Check the Firmware Firmware is software that determines the functionality of network devices. One of your rst actions when troubleshooting a problem should be to check the current rmware version.
