DO NO T get off tractor . 6. Engine MUST remain running. If engine does stop, there is a problem with y our safety interloc k circuit.

Begin REVERSE tra v el by moving the drive le ver or re verse pedal f or Automatic Model or gear shift le ver f or Gear Model to R (REVERSE) position.

Clean area around dipstick to pre v ent debris from falling into crankcase. 4. Remov e dipstick (A). Wipe with clean cloth. 5. Install dipstick: • S1642 - Install dipstick in tube , but DO NO T tigthen it.
Ser vice Engine - 29 SERVICE ENGINE cloth. 8. Lightly oil filter gasket with fresh, clean oil. 9. Install replacement oil filter . T ur n oil filter to the ri ght (clockwise) until rubber gask et contacts filter adapter . Tighten filter an additional one-half turn.

Ser vice Engine - 31 SERVICE ENGINE onto precleaner . Squeeze precleaner to distribute oil e venly . Squ eeze out e xcess oil with a clean cloth. 7. Inspect car tr idge f or damage or e xcessiv e dir t. Replace if necessar y . 8. Carefully clean air cleaner housing.

Ser vice Mower - 37 SERVICE MOWER 1. P ar k tractor on a hard, le vel surf ace. 2. Stop the engine, remo ve k ey , wait f or moving par ts to stop . 3. Place mower dec k in LOWEST setting. 4. Engage PT O dr ive le ver . 5. Measure distance from brack et (A) to washer (B) on tension rod (C).
Ser vice Mower - 38 SERVICE MOWER 7. Measure distance from brake surf ace (A) to pulley braking surf ace (B). Brake to Pulle y Distance should be: 2 – 3 mm (0.08 – 0.12 in). 8. If adjustment is required, tur n nut (C) on end of brak e rod (D) in correct direction to set brake at proper distance from pulley .
Ser vice Mower - 39 SERVICE MOWER INST ALLING MOWER BLADES 1. Lightly lubricate cap screw threads with a general pur pose grease or oil. This lubrication is to prev ent rusting and seizing. 2. P osition mower b lade (D) with the cutting edge towards the ground onto the mo wer spindle.
Ser vice Mower - 40 SERVICE MOWER Sharpening Blades 1. Shar pen blades with grinder , hand file or electric blade shar pener . 2. K eep or iginal bev el (A) when you grind. 3. Blade should hav e 0.40 mm (1/64 in.) cutting edge (B). Balancing Blades 1.
