14 R Section 4 ST ARTING THE ENGINE 4.4 CA UTION DO NO T USE ST ARTING FLUIDS. Use of starting fluids in the air intake system ma y be potentiall y explosive or cause a “runawa y” engine condition that could result in engine damage and/or personal injury .
15 R Section 4 REvERSE TRA vEL CA UTION Disengage power to the mower before backing up. Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely necessary and then only after observation of the entire area behind the mower . CA UTION Before backing up, observe the rear f or persons and obstructions.
16 R Section 4 HILLSIDE OPERA TION 4.7 W ARNING DO NO T operate on steep slopes. T o chec k a slope , attempt to back up it (with the cutter deck down). If the machine can bac k up the slope without the wheels slipping, reduce speed and use e xtreme caution.
17 R Section 4 MO vING MO WER WITH ENGINE 4.11 ST OPPED T o “free-wheel” or move the mo wer around without 1. the engine running, rotate the dump valv e lev ers counter-clockwise open. See Figure 4-4. Disengage the parking brake and mo ve the mo wer b y hand.

22 R Section 6 P ARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT 6.1 W ARNING Do not operate the mower if the parking brake is not operable. P ossible severe injury could result. The par king brak e linkage should be adjusted whenev er the p arkin g bra ke le v er is plac ed in the “EN GA GE” pos itio n and the parking brake will allow the mower to move .
23 R Section 6 NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT Be sure the dump v alve le v ers are in the run position 1. and the steering control le vers are in the neutr al lock position. With an operator in the seat, star t the engine and 2. disengage the parking brake . Run the engine at full operating speed and chec k if 3.
24 R Section 6 If at full speed the mow er pulls left, it is an indication 2. that the right wheel is tur ning faster than the left wheel. T o adjust this condition, proceed as follo ws: A. Stop the machine and place the steering control le vers in the neutral position.
25 R Section 6 CUTTER DECK PITCH The pitch of the cutter deck should b e equal between the front and rear of the cutter deck for proper cutting perf or mance. T o check f or proper deck pitch, be sure that the mo wer is on a flat, lev el surface and the tires are properly inflated.
26 R Section 6 Check the cutter dec k cutting height by placing the 3. lan yard pin in the 3" position on the cutting height inde x. Release the deck from the transpor t position and allow the dec k to mov e to the 3" cutting height position.

32 R Section 7 - IMPORT ANT - The h ydraulic oil should be changed if y ou notice the presence of water or a rancid odor to the h ydraulic oil. P ark the mower on a le v el surf ace and stop the 1. engine. Place a suitable container under the h ydraulic oil 2.
33 R Section 7 C. CHANGING ENGINE OIL FIL TER After the first 20 hours of operation, replace the engine oil filter . Thereafter , replace the oil filter after ev er y 200 hours of operation or ev er y month, whiche ver occurs first. Ref er to Engine Operator’ s Manual for instructions.
34 R Section 7 Remov e the machine from the truck or trailer and 7. fuel on the ground. If this is not possib le, then refuel the machine with a por table container , rather than from a gasoline dispenser nozzle. K eep the nozzle in contact with the rim of fuel tank 8.
35 R Section 7 B A TTER Y 7.7 W ARNING Lead-acid batteries produce flammable and explosive gases. T o av oid personal injury when chec king, testing or charging batteries, DO NO T use smoking materials near batteries. Keep arcs, sparks and flames away from batteries.
36 R Section 7 DRIvE BEL TS 7.8 All drive belts are spring-loaded and self-tensioning, howe ver after the first 2, 4, 8 and 10 hours of operation, the belts should be check ed for proper alignment and wear . Thereafter , check the belts after e v er y 40 hours of operation or weekly , whichev er occurs first.
37 R Section 7 - NO Te - The front of the machine will hav e to be raised slightly to remov e the blade bolt from the cutter spindle. T o install the new cutter blade , put the flat washer 4. onto the blade bolt and slide the bolt into the hole in the cutter blade .
