English 26 TURNING THE CAMERA ON AND OFF T urning on the camera 1 Open the monitor unit, and press the ON/OFF button for at least 1 second. h If you p ress the REC/PLA Y button f or at least 1 second, the ca mera turns on in the pla ybac k mode. h If you pre ss the ON/OFF butt on once, the camera will s witch to the power sav e mode.

English 28 OPERA TION BUTT ONS The procedures to change the camer a settings , choose images, etc., ar e perf ormed by using the SET but ton to control the monitor displa y . This operation is used v ery frequently , so it is best to become f amiliar with it right away .

English 30 D A TE AND TIME SETTING The camera will record the date and time an image or audio recording is taken so that y ou can disp la y them during pla yback. Theref ore, bef ore capturing images, mak e sure the correct date and time are set. Example: T o set the clock to 7:30 p .

35 English BASIC OPERA TION BEFORE T AKING PICTURES For best r esults Hold the camera securely , keeping your elbows c lose to your body and making sure the came ra is stable. Make sure that the le ns and flash ar e not b lock ed b y y our fingers or the neckstrap .
English 36 Using the autof ocus The autofocu s will work in almost all si tuations; howeve r , there a re certain conditions that may cause the autofocus function to not work properly . If the autofocus function is not w orking properl y , set the focus range to capture images (page 76).

65 English IMA GE QU ALITY Video clip image quality setting When it comes to video clips, a lar ger number of pixels and a higher frame rate means bett er image quality a nd smoother pla yback. On the other hand, the file size becomes lar ge and uses more memory .
English 66 Still image resolution setting By setting the still image resoluti on (pixels) to a higher setting, image detail is enhanced for a smoother , finer picture. However , the file size also becomes large and uses more me mory . Select the resolution setting that suits your purpose.

English 70 SETTING THE FLASH MODE The flash is used n ot only f or taking pi ctures where there is insuff icient light, but also when the subject is in shade or in backlight conditions. Y our camera’ s flash has three modes o f operation ( aut omatic flash mode , f orced flash mode and flash off mode).

79 English LIGHT -MEASURING MODE SETTING Y ou can select from 3 types of light-measuring modes . Multi-section light- measuring: The exp osure is adjusted after sampling from mult iple areas of the entire shooting screen.
English 80 ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial se ttings, the ISO sensit ivity is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject. Howe ver , the ISO sensi tivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Displa y PAGE 2 of the RECORDING MENU (page 60).
81 English WHITE B ALANCE This camera automaticall y adjusts the white balance und er most lighting conditions. Ho we v er , if y ou want to specify the lighting conditions or ch ange the ov erall tone of the image, the whit e balance can be manuall y set.
