Getting Started With Sprint PCS Service Determining if Y our Phone is Already Activa ted If you receiv ed your SCP-200 by Sany o in the mail or purchased it at a Sprint Store, it probably has alr eady been activated. All y ou need to do is unlock your phone.
Setting Up Y our V oicemail All unanswered calls to your Sprin t PCS Phone are automatically transf erred to your voicemail, e ven if your phone is in use or turned off . Theref ore, you will w ant to set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your Sprint PCS Phone is activa ted.
Sprint PCS Account P asswor ds As a Sprint PCS customer , you enjoy unlimited access to y our personal account informa tion and your voicemail accoun t . T o ensure that no one else has access to your inf ormation, you will need to cr eate passwords to protect your privacy .

Viewing the Displa y Screen Y our phone’ s display screen pro vides a wealth of information about your phone’ s status and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: shows your curr ent signal strength.

T urning Y our Phone On and Off T urning Y our Phone On T o turn your phone on: 䊳 Press . Once your phone is on, it displays “Looking f or ser vice... ” which indicates that your phone is searching f or a signal. When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode – the phone’ s idle state.
Using Y our Phone’ s Battery and Charger Battery Capacity Y our Sprint PCS Phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) battery . It allows y ou to recharge y our battery before it is fully drained. The battery provides up to 3.25 hours of c ontinuous digital talk time (up to 1.
Installing the Battery T o install the LiIon battery: 1. Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the phone and gently press down un til you hear the battery snap in to the place. 2. Place the battery co ver into the position as indica ted in the diagram, then slide it until you hear it snap into the place.
Charging the Battery Y our Sprint PCS Phone’ s LiIon battery is rechargeable and should be charged as soon as possible so you can begin using y our phone.
Displaying Y our Phone Number Just in case you forg et your phone number , your Sprint PCS Phone can remind you. T o display your phone number : 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select My Phone# and press . Note: T o access the phone’ s main menu, press from standby mode.
Making and Answering C alls Making Calls Placing a call from your Sprin t PCS Phone is as easy as making a call from any land line phone. Just enter the number and press and you’ re on your w ay to clear calls. T o place a call using your k eypad: 1.
T o place a call with the flip closed: 1. Make sur e your phone is on. 2. Press and hold on the left side of the phone. 3. Follow the system pr ompts. ( The call will be made in speakerphone mode, unless you ha ve a headset attached to the phone.) 䡲 Redial to redial the last number you called.
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you press Options (right sof tkey) after en tering numbers in the phone’ s standby mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . 䢇 Abbrev . Dial to dial the phone number in your C ontacts list that ends with the digits you enter ed.
Answering C alls T o answer an incoming call with the flip open: 1. Make sur e your phone is on. (If your phone is of f , incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Press or to answer an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, y ou may also answer incoming calls by opening the phone or by pressing any number k ey .
䢇 Screen Call to answer the call by using a pre-rec orded announcement. (Appears when you are in a Sprin t PCS Ser vice area or digital r oaming area. See page 109 f or the setting.) 䢇 Quiet Ringer to mute the ringer . (Appears when the ringer is set .
Ending a Call T o disconnect a call when you are finished: 䊳 Close the phone or press . Note: If the setting for Close Flip is not set to “End Call,” closing the phone will not end the call. (See “Setting the Open/Close Flip Option ” on page 55.
Adjusting V olume During a Conv ersation When you need to adjust the receiv er volume during a c onversa tion, use the Side Up/Down key , or press the naviga tion key up or down while a call is in progress. Muting a Call There are times when it’ s necessary to mute a call so that your caller does not hear you or certain background noise.
Calling Emergency Numbers Y ou can place calls to 911 (dial and press ), even if your phone is lock ed or your accoun t is restricted. Once you dial the numbers, y our phone will enter Emergency mode. Press Options (right softke y) to display the options.
In-Call Options During a call, your phone displa ys menu options when you press Options (right softk ey). T o selec t an option, highlight it and press . 䢇 Flash to answer an incoming Call W aiting call or to connect a third party during Three- Wa y Calling.
End-of -Call Options T o display the following options, pr ess Options (right softk ey) within 10 seconds af ter disconnecting a call. T o select an option, highlight it and press . 䢇 Call Again to dial the phone number . 䢇 Call:Speak er On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can search Contacts list entries f or phone numbers that contain a specific string of numbers. T o find a phone number: 1. Enter the last four or more digits of the number and pr ess Options (right softk ey). (The more numbers you en ter , the more specific the search becomes.
Plus Code Dialing Y our phone’ s Plus Code Dialing fea ture can automatically dial the international access c ode when you are tra veling outside of the United States. (Not av ailable in some areas.) T o make a call using Plus C ode Dialing: 1. From standby mode, pr ess and hold until a “+” sign appears on the phone display .
Using Speed Dialing With this f eature, you can dial your f avorite en tries using one key pr ess for loca tions 2-9. (See “ Assigning Speed Dial Numbers” on page 85.) T o use speed dial for v oice calls: 䊳 From standby mode, pr ess and hold the appropriate key f or appro ximately two seconds.
Entering T ext Selecting a Character Input Mode Y our Sprint PCS Phone provides con venient wa ys to enter words, letters, punctuation, and numbers whenev er you are prompted to enter text (for e xample, when adding a Contacts entry or when sending email messages).
Entering Char acters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets you enter te xt in your Sprint PCS Phone by pressing keys just once per letter . (T o selec t the T9 W ord mode when entering text, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on the previous page.
Selecting the T9 Settings T o customize the T9 Settings: 1. Follow steps 1-4 on the pr evious page. 2. Select T9 Settings and press . 3. Select from the following options: 䡲 Predict. T xt Mode to allow T9 text input to recognize wor ds you hav e added to the T9 da tabase.
Entering Char acters by T apping the Ke ypad T o enter characters by tapping the keypad, select the Alphabet mode (see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on page 32). Press the corresponding k ey repeatedly until the desir ed character appears. By default, the first letter of an entry is capitalized and f ollowing letters are lowercase.

Sound Settings Ringer T ypes Ringer types help you identify inc oming calls and messages. Y ou can assign ringer types to individual Contacts entries , types of calls, and types of messages. 䢇 Preprogr ammed Ringers include a variety of standard ringer types and familiar music.
Selecting Ringer T ypes for V oicemail, Messaging , or Calendar/ Alarm T o select a ringer type for v oicemail, messaging , or calendar/ alarm: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Sounds and press . 4. Select Ringer T ype and press .
Using V oice Prompt This fea ture allows y ou to hear voice prompts at V oice Memo, Screen Call setting, etc . (default setting is Of f ). T o enable or disable voice prompt: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Sounds and press .
Adjusting the Phone’ s V olume Settings Y ou can adjust your phone’ s volume settings to suit your needs and your envir onment . T o adjust the ringer and key v olume: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Sounds and press .
Alert Notification Y our Sprint PCS Phone can aler t you with an audible tone when you change service areas, once a minute during a v oice call, for incoming calls, or when a call has been c onnected. T o set aler ts: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Silence All There may be times when y ou need to silence your phone entirely . The phone’ s Silence All option allows you to mute all sounds without turning your phone of f. T o activate Silence All: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Display Settings Changing the T ext Greeting The text greeting can be up to fif teen characters and is display ed on your phone’ s screen in standby mode. Y ou may choose to display a custom greeting or you ma y display “Sprint” on the phone’ s screen.
Changing the Backlight T ime Length The backlight setting lets you select how long the display screen and keypad ar e backlit after any ke y press is made. T o change the backlight setting: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Display f or Incoming Calls Y ou can set the color to be shown on the Incoming Calls display . T o set your incoming calls display : 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Incoming Calls and press .
Changing the Display f or Standby Mode This fea ture enables you to select a variety of items to displa y in standby mode. T o set your standby display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Standby Display and press .
Changing the Screen Sav er Y our new Sprint PCS Phone off ers you the option of displaying a scr een sav er while in standby mode. T o assign a screen sav er: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press .
Changing the Con trast Y ou can customize the display’ s contrast of your phone. T o change the display’ s contrast: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Contr ast and press . 5. Select your desired contr ast and press .
Setting Return to Standby Mode This fea ture allows y ou to selec t the way to r eturn to standby mode. T o set this feature: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Return to Idle and press .
Location Settings Y our Sprint PCS Phone is equipped with a Location f eature f or use in connection with location-based services that may be a vailable in the future. The Location f eature allows the network to detect your position. T urning Location of f will hide your location from e veryone except 911.
Airplane Mode Airplane Mode allows y ou to use many of your phone’ s featur es, such as Games, V oice Memo, etc., when you are in an airplane or in any other area where making or r eceiving calls or data is prohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receive any calls or text messages.
TTY Use W ith Sprint PCS Service A TTY ( also known as a TDD or T ext T elephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who ar e deaf or hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to c ommunicate by telephone. Y our phone is compatible with select TTY devices.
Phone Setup Options Shortcut Y our phone off ers you the option of assigning a shortcut key to a f av orite or often-used function. Pressing the na vigation key to the lef t in standby mode will launch your personally designated shortcut. T o assign your shortcut key: 1.
Auto Answer Mode Y ou may set your phone to automatically pick up incoming calls in speakerphone mode or when c onnected to an optional hands-free car kit and headset . T o set Auto Answer mode: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Setting the Open/Close Flip Option This fea ture enables you to answer an inc oming call by opening the flip or to end a call by closing the flip. T o activate the Open Flip f eature: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3.
Setting Any K ey Answ er This fea ture allows y ou to answer incoming calls by pressing any ke y (except , , softk eys, and Side Up/Down ke y). T o turn any ke y answer on or off : 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Others and press .
Setting Abbrevia ted Dialing Abbrevia ted Dialing is another form of speed dialing. It allows you to dial a number by entering 3-6 digits of any number in y our Con tacts directory . If the digits you enter do not match any stor ed Contacts entry , your phone will automatically pr epend the digits you specify .
Headset Mode This fea ture allows y ou hands-free phone use. Set the headset mode to V oice Call and press the T urbo Button (the operation button) on the headset to activate useful functions. T o connect the headset: 䊳 Simply plug the headset into your phone’ s headset jack.
Editing Preset Messages Y our phone can store pre-set messages for use with text messaging. Y ou can edit your phone’ s default preset messages through the Settings menu. T o edit your phone’ s preset messages: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2.
Setting Y our Signature This fea ture allows y ou to send a message with your signature. T o set your signature: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Messaging and press . 4. Select Signature and press . 5. Press , select On , and press .

Accessing the Security Menu All of your phone’ s security settings are av ailable through the Security menu. Y ou must enter your lock code to view the Security menu. T o access the Security menu: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Unlocking Y our Phone T o unlock your phone: 1. Press Unlock (left sof tkey). 2. Enter your lock c ode. Lock Services With this f eature, you can choose to restrict access to incoming and outgoing voice calls. T o activate lock services: 1. From the Security Menu, select Others and press .
Restricting Calls There may be occasions when y ou want to limit the numbers your phone can call or from which it can receive calls. Y ou can use the Restrict Calls setting to do just that. (The Restrict Calls setting does not apply to 911 or Sprint Customer Service.
Using Special Numbers Special numbers are important numbers that you hav e designated as being “alw ays a vailable. ” Y ou can save 3 special numbers in addition to y our Contacts entries (the same number may be in both directories ). T o add or replace a special number: 1.
Resetting and L ocking Y our Phone Thr ough SMS When your phone is lost or stolen, you can er ase your important personal information (such as C ontacts entries, call history , and messages) and lock y our phone by sending a special formatted SMS message to your phone.

Understanding Roaming Rec ognizing Icons on the Display Scr een Y our phone’ s display screen alwa ys lets you know when you’ re off the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network and whether y our phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The f ollowing char t indicates what you’ll see depending on where you’ re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Netw orks When you roam on analog network s, you will experience a similar quality provided by other analog carriers toda y . Although some fea tures, such as Sprin t PCS V oice Command, will be unav ailable, you can still make and r eceive calls and access v oicemail.
Checking for V oicemail Messages While R oaming When you are r oaming off the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network, y ou may not receive on-phone notification of new v oicemail messages.
Con trolling Roaming Charg es Using Call Guard Y our phone has two ways of alerting you when y ou are roaming of f the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network: the onscreen r oaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guar d makes it easy to manage your roaming char ges by requiring an extr a step before you can place or answer a r oaming call.

Viewing History Y ou’ll find the Call History featur e very helpful. They ar e lists of the last 20 voice calls tha t you placed, accepted, or missed.
Making a Call F rom Call History T o place a call from Call History : 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Call History and press . 3. Select Outgoing , Incoming or Missed and press . 4. Finding C ontacts List Entries There are se ver al ways to display y our Contacts entries: by name, by speed dial number , and by voice dial tags. Follow the steps outlined in the sections below to display entries from the C ontacts list menu. Finding Names T o find Contacts list entries by name: 1.
Co ntacts List Entry Options T o access a contact ’ s options, display the Con tac ts list, highlight an entry and press . Then selec t a phone number and press Options (right softk ey). T o select an option, highlight it and press . 䢇 Edit to edit the selected entry .
Editing a C ontac ts Entry T o make changes to an entry : 1. Press the naviga tion key right. 2. Scroll to the entry y ou wish to edit and press . 3. Select a phone number , press Options (right softke y), highlight Edit , and press . – or – Select an email address or W eb address and press Edit (right sof tkey).
Assigning Speed Dial Numbers With this f eature you can dial C ontacts directory entries with one ke y press f or locations 2-9. F or details on how to make calls using speed dial numbers, see “Using Speed Dialing” on page 31. T o assign Speed Dial: 1.
Assigning a Color to a C ontacts Entry Y ou can assign a color to a Con tacts entry . The color is displa yed when the entry calls you. T o assign a color for an entry : 1. Press the naviga tion key right. 2. Select the entry for which you wan t to assign the color and press .
Secret C ontac ts Entries Y ou can hide an entry’ s phone number(s) and requir e your lock code to edit the entry by making it secret . The entry name is still display ed, but the entry’ s phone numbers are replaced with “<Secret>” . T o make an entry secret: 1.

Managing the Scheduler Use the Calendar to remind y ou of events or important calls you need to make. Y ou can schedule up to 100 even ts, 15 Call Alarms , and 20 T o-Do List items. Displaying Y our Calendar T o display your calendar: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Using Y our Phone’ s Scheduler Adding an Ev ent to the Scheduler Y our Scheduler helps organize your time and r eminds you of impor tant even ts (up to 100 even ts). T o add an event: 1. From the C alendar display (see the previous page), select the day you want to add an ev ent and press Options (right softk ey).

Using the Call Alarm F eature Adding a Call Alarm to the Scheduler Y ou can set call alarms to notif y you when y ou need to place a call. The call alarm will let you know when and to whom to place a scheduled call. Y ou can set up to 15 call alarms. T o add a call alarm to the Scheduler: 1.
Call Alarm Alerts There are se ver al ways your Sprint PCS Phone alerts you of a scheduled call alarm: 䢇 By playing the alert tone (depending on the Ringer T ype and Ringer V olume setting). 䢇 By blinking the LED . 䢇 By displaying the call alarm notification on the L CD when the flip is open.
