Get ting Start ed With PCS Service Det er mining if Y our Phone is Alr eady Activ ated If you received your phone in the mail or purchased it at a Sprint Store, it probably has already been activated. All y ou need to do is unlock your phone. If your phone is not activated, please ref er to the Start Here Guide included with your phone.
Set ting Up Y our V oicemail All unansw ered calls to your PCS V ision Phone are automatically transf erred to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off. Ther efore, you will want to set up your voicemail and per sonal gr eeting as soon as your PCS V ision Phone is activated.
PCS A ccount P assw or ds As a PCS customer , you enjoy unlimited access to y our per sonal account information, your voicemail account, and your PCS Vision account. T o ensure that no one else has access to your information, you will need to create pass wor ds to protect y our privacy .

T ur ning Y our Phone On and Of f T ur ning Y our Phone On T o t ur n y our phone on: Press . Once your phone is on, it displays “Looking for ser vice... ” which indicates that your phone is searc hing f or a signal. When y our phone finds a signal, it automatically enter s standb y mode – the phone’ s idle state.
Using Y our Phone ’ s Batt ery and Char g er Bat tery Capacity Y our PCS V ision Phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) batter y . It allows you to recharg e your batter y befor e it is full y drained. The batter y provides approximately 3.0 hours of continuous digital talk time (1.
Char ging the Batt ery Y our PCS V ision Phone’ s LiIon batter y is recharg eable and should be charg ed as soon as possible so y ou can beg in using your phone.
Displa ying Y our Phone Number J ust in case you f orget your phone number , your PCS V ision Phone can remind you. T o displa y y our phone number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select My Phone# and press . Note: T o access the phone’ s main menu, press from standby mode.
Important: T o maximize performance when using your PCS Phone, extend the antenna before a call and do not touch the antenna during a call (see page 228). T o place a call with the flip closed: 1. Make sure your phone is on. 2. Press and hold the Side Call key ( ) on the r ight side of the phone.
Dialing Options Dialing options are display ed when you press Options (r ight softke y) after enter ing number s in the phone’ s standby mode. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Answ er ing Calls T o answ er an incoming call with the flip open: 1. Make sure your phone is on. (If your phone is of f , incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Press or to ans wer an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, you may also answ er incoming calls b y opening the phone or by pressing any number ke y .
The following options are also display ed by pressing Options (right softkey). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Guard to answer the call when you are in roaming mode. See pa g e 77 for setting Call Guard. Answer to answ er the call.
Ending a Call T o disconnect a call when you are finished: With the Flip open: Close the phone or press . With the Flip closed: Press and hold . Note: If the setting for Close Flip is not set to “end call,” closing the phone will not end the call.
Changing the Ring er V olume T o chang e the r ing er volume, press the Side V olume ke y when the phone is open and in standby mode. Note: T o change the ringer volume from the main menu, see “Adjusting the Phone’ s V olume Settings” on page 41.
Missed Call Notification When an incoming call is not answ ered, the Missed Call log is display ed on your screen. T o displa y the Missed Call entry: Press View (left softkey). (T o call an entr y , highlight the entr y you want to call and press or .
In-Call Options During a call, y our phone displays menu options when you press Options (right softke y). T o select an option, highlight it and press . Flash to answ er an incoming Call W aiting call or to connect a third party dur ing Three-W ay Calling.
End-of-Call Options T o display the f ollowing options, press Options (right softkey) within 10 seconds after disconnecting a call. T o select an option, highlight it and press . Call Again to dial the phone number . Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.
Finding a Phone Number Y ou can searc h Contacts list entries for phone number s that contain a specific str ing of numbers. T o find a phone number: 1. Enter the last four or more digits of the number and press Options (right softke y). The more number s you enter , the more specific the searc h becomes.
Dialing F r om the Contacts Dir ectory T o dial directly fr om a Contacts entry: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Contacts and press . 3. Select Find/Add Entry and press . Using Speed Dialing W ith this featur e, you can dial your fav orite entr ies using one key press f or locations 2-9. (See “ Assigning Speed Dial Number s” on page 94.) T o use speed dial f or v oice calls: From standby mode, press and hold the appropriate ke y for approximately two seconds.
Ent er ing T ext Selecting a Char acter Input Mode Y our PCS V ision Phone provides convenient ways to enter wor ds, letter s, punctuation, and numbers whenever you are prompted to enter text (f or e xample, when adding a Contacts entr y or when sending email messages).
Ent er ing Char act ers Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets you enter te xt in your PCS Vision Phone by pressing ke ys just once per letter . (T o select the T9 W ord mode when entering te xt, see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on the previous pa g e.

Sound Settings Ring er T ypes Ring er types help you identify incoming calls and messages. Y ou can assign r ing er types to individual Contacts entries, types of calls, and types of messages. Preprogrammed Ringers include a variety of standard r ing er types and familiar music.

Aler t Notification Y our PCS Phone can aler t you with an audible tone when you chang e ser vice areas, once a minute dur ing a v oice call, f or incoming or missed PCS Ready Link calls, or when a call has been connected. Service sets aler t on or of f for networ k ser vices parameter chang es.
Silence All There may be times when y ou need to silence your phone entirel y . The phone’ s Silence All option allows you to mute all sounds without turning your phone of f . T o activ ate Silence All: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Displa y Settings Changing the T ext Gr eeting The text gr eeting can be up to fifteen char acter s and is display ed on your phone’ s screen in standb y mode. Y ou may choose to display a custom greeting or y ou may display “Sprint” on the phone’ s screen.
Changing the Bac klight Time Length The backlight setting lets you select how long the display screen and keypad are backlit after any key press is made. T o c hange the Main LCD or Sub LCD backlight setting: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Displa y Scr een Animation Y our new PCS V ision Phone of f er s options f or what you see on the display screen during various phone functions. T o c hange the display animation: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press .
Changing the Displa y f or Incoming Calls Y ou can set the color or downloaded ima g e to be shown on the Incoming Calls display . T o set your incoming calls display: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press .
Changing the Displa y f or Area Name This feature enables you to show the area of the phone number y ou are calling or are called from when the number is not register ed in your Contacts list. For e xample, a call to or from 213-555-5555 will display “Calif or nia.
Changing the Displa y f or Standby Mode This feature enables you to select a variety of items to display in standby mode. T o set your standby displa y: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Standby Display and press .
Changing the Scr een Sav er Y our new PCS Phone offers you the option of displaying a screen sav er while in standby mode. T o assign a scr een sa ver: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Standby Display and press .
Changing the Displa y f or My Buddy This feature enables you to see a funn y animation for 30 seconds on the Main LCD b y opening the f lip. T o activ ate or deactiv ate My Buddy: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press .
Changing the F ont Siz e Y ou can chang e the f ont size settings f or the messa g e notification and browser . T o c hange the font size: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Display and press . 4. Select Font Size and press .
Location Settings Y our PCS V ision Phone is equipped with a Location featur e f or use in connection with location-based ser vices that may be availab le in the future. The Location featur e allows the network to detect your position. T ur ning Location off will hide your location from ever yone e xcept 911.
Air plane Mode Airplane Mode allows you to use many of your phone’ s features, such as Games, V oice Memos, etc., when you are in an airplane or in any other area where making or receiving calls or data is prohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receiv e any calls or access online information.
T T Y Use With PCS Service F r om Spr int A TTY (also known as a TDD or T e xt T elephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hard of hear ing, or who hav e speech or langua g e disa bilities, to communicate b y telephone.
Phone Setup Options Shor tcut Y our phone of f er s y ou the option of assigning a shor tcut ke y to a fa vorite or often-used function. Pressing the navigation key to the left in standb y mode will launch your per sonall y designated shor tcut. T o assign your shortcut k e y: 1.

Set ting Abbr eviated Dialing Ab breviated Dialing is another f or m of speed dialing. It allows you to dial a number b y enter ing just the last four digits of any number in your Contacts Director y .
Headset Mode This feature allows you hands-free phone use. Set the headset mode to V oice Call or Ready Link and press the T urbo Button (the operation button) on the headset to activate useful functions. T o set headset mode: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Set ting Messag e Notification Y ou can see a pop-up message notification when y ou receiv e a te xt message or V oicemail while you are in PCS V ision applications, browser mode, or V oice Calls. T o set message notification: 1. Press to access the main menu.
Set ting a Callback Number W ith this featur e, you can notify your recipients of your callback number with the te xt message. T o set the callbac k number: 1. Press to access the main menu. 2. Select Settings and press . 3. Select Messaging and press .

Restr icting Calls There may be occasions when y ou want to limit the numbers your phone can call or from which it can receive calls. Y ou can use the Restrict Calls setting to do just that. (The Restr ict Calls setting does not apply to 911 or PCS Customer Solutions.
Using Special Numbers Special number s are impor tant number s that you hav e designated as being “always available. ” Y ou can call and receive calls from special numbers even if y our phone is locked. Y ou can save 3 special numbers in addition to y our Contacts entr ies (the same number may be in both directories).

Secur ity F eatur es for PCS V ision SM Enabling and Disabling PCS V ision Services Y ou can disable PCS V ision ser vices without tur ning of f your phone; how ever , you will not hav e access to all PCS V ision ser vices, including W eb and messa ging.

Understanding Roaming Recognizing Icons on the Displa y Scr een Y our phone’ s display screen always lets you know when y ou’ re off the Spr int Nationwide PCS Network and whether your phone is operating in analog or digital mode. The f ollowing c har t indicates what you’ ll see depending on where you’ re using your phone.
Roaming on Analog Networ ks When you roam on analog networ ks, you will e xper ience a similar quality provided b y other analog car rier s today . Although some f eatures, such as PCS Vision, PCS Ready Link, and PCS V oice Command, will be unavailable, y ou can still make and receiv e calls and access voicemail.
Chec king for V oicemail Messages While Roaming When you are roaming off the Spr int Nationwide PCS Network, you may not receive on-phone notification of new voicemail messa g es.
Contr olling Roaming Char g es Using Call Guard Y our phone has two ways of alerting you when you are roaming off the Spr int Nationwide PCS Network: the onscreen roaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guard makes it easy to manage your roaming charg es by requiring an e xtra step bef ore you can place or answ er a roaming call.
