Setting Up Service Section 1A. Setting Up Ser vice 3 Activating Y our Phone v If you purchased your phone at a Sprint Store, your phone should be activated and r eady to use. v If you received your phone in the mail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of ser vice, it is designed to activ ate automatically .

Therefor e, Sprint recommends that you set up your voicemail and personal gr eeting as soon as your phone is activated.

K ey Functions 1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller and automated pr ompts. 2. Main Screen displa ys all the information needed to operate y our phone, such as the call status, the Contacts list, the date and time, and the signal and battery strength.
14. Camera Lens , as part of the built-in camer a, lets y ou take pictur es. 15. Speaker lets you hear the dif fer ent ringers and sounds. Y ou can mute the ringer when receiving incoming calls by pr essing or an y of the side ke ys. The speak er also lets you hear the caller’s voice in speak erphone mode.
Viewing the Display Screen Y our phone’s displa y scr een pr ovides a wealth of information about your phone’s status and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on y our phone’s display scr een: indicates your current signal str ength.
indicates your phone is connected to a Bluetooth device (gr een icon) . indicates your phone is communicating with a Bluetooth device. indicates access to a secur e site. indicates the lev el of your battery charge. The mor e black you see, the mor e power you ha ve left.
Features of Y our Phone The KA T ANA ® LX by SANY O is lightweight, easy-to -use, and r eliable, and it also offers many featur es and service options.
T urning Y our Phone On and Off T urning Y our Phone On © Pr ess . Once your phone is on, it may displa y “Looking for service.” When your phone finds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode. At this point, you are r eady to begin making and r eceiving calls.
Battery Capacity Y our phone is equipped with a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery. It allows y ou to rechar ge your battery before it is fully drained. The bat tery pr ovides up to 4.8 hours of continuous digital talk time. When ther e ar e appr o ximately two minutes of talk time left, the phone sounds an audible alert and then turns off.
Charging Y our Batter y Charge your bat tery as soon as possible so you can begin using your phone. K eeping track of y our bat tery’s char ge is important. If your bat tery le v el becomes too low, y our phone automatically turns off, and you will lose any information you wer e just working on.
Navigating Through the Menus The navigation k ey on your phone lets you scr oll thr ough menus quickly and easily . The scr oll bar at the right of the menu keeps tr ack of your position in the menu at all times. T o navigate thr ough a menu, simply press the na vigation ke y up or down.
Displaying Y our Phone Number © Pr ess > Settings > Phone Info > Phone#/User ID . (Y our phone number and other information about your phone and account will be display ed.) Making and Answering Calls Holding Y our Phone T o maximize performance, do not obstruct the internal antenna ar ea.
Making Calls Placing a call fr om your wireless phone is as easy as making a call fr om any landline phone. Enter the number , press , and y ou’ r e on your way to clear calls. T o make a call using your keypad: 1. Make sur e your phone is on. 2. Enter a phone number from standby mode.
Answering Calls 1. Make sur e your phone is on. (If your phone is off, incoming calls go to voicemail.) 2. Pr ess or to answer an incoming call. (Depending on your phone’s settings, you ma y also answer incoming calls by opening the phone or by pr essing any number ke y .
Answering a Roam Call With Call Guard Enabled Call Guar d is an option that helps you manage y our r oaming char ges when making or receiving calls while outside the Sprint National Network. Please see “Roaming” on page 55 for more information about r oaming.
Emergency mode options If you end the emer gency call by pr essing , your phone enters the emer gency mode. 1. Pr ess to end a 911 call. 2. Pr ess Options (right sof tk ey). n Call 911 to call 911. n Call 911:Spkr . to call 911 in speakerphone mode. n Exit Emergency to exit Emer gency mode.
In-Call Options Pr essing Options (right sof tk ey) during a call displays a list of av ailable in-call features. The following options ar e av ailable through the Options menu: v Three-Way Call to call a third party . v Main Menu to display the phone’ s main menu.
Saving a Phone Number Y our phone can store up to 300 Contacts entries. Contacts can stor e up to a total of 500 phone numbers, and each Contacts entry’s name can contain up to 64 characters. Y our phone automatically sorts the Contacts entries alphabetically .
T o dial or save phone numbers with pauses: 1. Enter all or part of a phone number. 2. Pr ess Options (right sof tk ey) > Hard Pause or 2-Sec. Pause . 3. Enter additional numbers. 4. Pr ess to dial the number . –o r – Pr ess Options (right sof tk ey) > Save to sav e the number in your Contacts.
Plus (+) Code Dialing When placing international calls, use Plus Code Dialing to automatically enter the international access code for your location (for example, 011 for international calls made fr om the United States). This feature is subject to network av ailability.
Entering T ext Selecting a T ext Input Mode Y our phone pro vides conv enient ways to enter wor ds, letters, numbers, and symbols whenever you ar e pr ompted to enter text (for example, when adding a Contacts entry or when using Sprint Mail and SMS T ext Messaging).
Entering Characters Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input lets y ou enter text with just one ke ypress per letter . T9 T ext Input uses an intuitiv e word database to analyz e the letters you enter and cr eate a suitable wor d. (The wor d ma y change as you type.
Customizing the T9 Settings 1. Pr ess > Settings > T ext Entr y > T9 Settings . –o r – F r om a scr een wher e you can enter text, pr ess Mode (right softkey) > T ext Options > T9 Settings . 2. Select an option and pr ess . n Word Predict to automatically display the wor d that may follow the curr ent text input.
Characters scroll in the following order: Entering Symbols, Smileys, Emoticons, and Preset Messages Special text entry sets can help speed y our messaging and Web br owsing. These sets, including symbols, smileys, emoticons, and pr eset messages are all accessed the same wa y.

L ocation Settings Y our phone is equipped with a Location feature for use in connection with location-based services. The Location featur e allows the network to detect your position. T urning Location off will hide your location from ev eryone e xcept 911.
Setting Message Reminders When new messages arrive, y ou can choose to ha ve your phone notif y y ou by pla ying an audible alert. 1. Pr ess > Settings > Messaging > Message Reminder . 2. Select T ext Message , P icture Mail , V oicemail , or V oice SMS .
T o edit or delete a preset message: 1. Pr ess > Settings > Messaging > Preset Msgs . ( The list of pr eset messages is displa yed.) 2. Select the message you want to edit or delete and pr ess Options (right sof tk ey). 3. Select Edit , and edit the message and press .
Airplane Mode Airplane Mode allows you to use man y of your phone’s featur es, such as Games, Music, or V oice Memos, etc., when you ar e in an airplane or in any other area wher e making or r eceiving calls or data is prohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receiv e any calls or access online information.

Phone Setup Options Navigation K ey Shor tcuts Y ou can use the na vigation ke ys as shortcuts to access specific menu items dir ectly fr om standby mode. With this featur e, you can r eassign the shortcuts to the menu items you choose.

Using Y our Phone’ s Lock Feature L ocking Y our Phone When your phone is locked, y ou can only make calls to 911, Sprint Customer Service, or special numbers. (See “Using Special Numbers” on page 52.) 1. F r om the Security menu, select L ock My Phone > Lock Now .

Using Special Numbers Special numbers ar e important numbers that you ha ve designated as being “always a vailable.” Y ou can make or r eceive calls to or from special numbers e ven if your phone is locked. Y ou can sa ve up to thr ee special numbers in addition to your Contacts entries.
n Delete Message to delete all messages (including locked ones) in the Inbox, Sent Mail, P ending, and Drafts folders; all Recent Lists; and all user -created pr eset messages (text messages, SMS Voice messages, etc.). 3. If you ar e certain you would like to delete, pr ess OK (left sof tke y) , and then Ye s (left sof tk ey).

Checking for V oicemail Messages While Roaming When you ar e roaming off the Sprint National Network, you ma y not receiv e on-phone notification of new voicemail messages.
Using Call Guard Y our phone has two ways of alerting you when y ou are r oaming off the Sprint National Network: the onscreen r oaming icon and Call Guar d. Call Guar d makes it easy to manage your roaming char ges by r equiring an e xtra step befor e you can place or answer a roaming call.
Using Data Roam Guard Depending on service av ailability and roaming agr eements, your phone may be able to access data services while r oaming on certain digital systems. Y ou can set your phone to alert you when you ar e roaming off the Sprint National Network and try to use data services such as messaging.

Secret Contacts Entries Y ou can hide an entry by making it secr et. The entry is not display ed in your Contacts. In History , a telephone number is displa yed but the Contacts entry’s name is not. T o make an entry secret: 1. F r om the Contacts list, highlight a Contacts entry .
Dialing Sprint Ser vices Y our Contacts list is prepr ogrammed with contact numbers for various Sprint services. T o dial a ser vice from your Contacts: 1. Pr ess > Settings > More... > Contacts > Services . 2. Select Customer Ser vice , Dir Assistance (Sprint 411) , Account Info , or Sprint Operator .
Activating and Deactivating Wireless Backup Ser vice T o activate the wireless backup ser vice: 1. Pr ess > Settings > More... > Wireless Backup . 2. Select Subscribe . (Y ou will be prompted to confirm your license status.) 3. Pr ess Ye s (lef t softke y) and follow the onscr een instructions to pur chase the license.
Setting Wireless Backup Aler t This featur e turns the pop-up alert on or of f when a Wir eless Backup is in pr ogr ess (sign-in state only). 1. Adding a Call Alarm to the Calendar Y ou can set call alarms to notify you when you need to place a call. The call alarm will let you know when and to whom to place a scheduled call. Y ou can set up to 15 call alarms. T o add a call alarm to the calendar : 1.
T o silence the alarm, pr ess an y ke y. (The alarm will stop and then sound again after the selected snooze interval.) Pr ess Dismiss (right sof tk ey) to dismiss the ev ent. Viewing Events T o view your scheduled events: 1. Pr ess > T ools > Calendar .

Setting Up Screen Call Y ou can scr een incoming calls by using a recor ded announcement, either a pr er ecor ded one or one that you r ecor d. Y ou can also recor d the caller’s message.
