4 Glossar y Aspect Ratio— The aspect ratio of a television picture is the relationship of the width to the height. The standard Analo g aspect ratio is 4:3. The 16:9 aspect ratio appears wider and shorter , more closely resembling a movie theater screen image.

6 Under standing the DIR-20 0 0’ s F eatures Analog and Digital Signals Analog T raditionally , televisions hav e receiv ed signals sent (broadcast) ov er the airwav es or via cable (CA TV). These signals included the carrier wa ve and the picture and sound data.
7 Menu Labeling When a category or option is selected its label will ha ve a yello w highlight. When a feature is selected, not only will its labe l be highlighted, but it will also “point” to the av ailable options that appear in the right hand column.
8 Channel Category F eatures and Options Searc h Search is used to find and store in memory all acti ve channels being recei ved. This includes NTSC and Digital DTV channels. NightScan Searc h The NightScan feature automatically searches to keep the database fresh and updated with ne w DTV channels.
9 Using the Remote Contr ol Use this univ ersal remote to operate your SDB, TV , VCR, and D VD. Refer to the “Quick ‘N Easy” Startup Guide for programming procedu re. Since this remote control will operate sev eral pieces of equipment, make sure you press the appropriate ke y to control that component.
V olume (V OL) + + Up / – – Down K eys— Use the + + / – – keys to adjust the sound lev el on your TV . TV Mode K ey— Press to select the operating mode for your TV . Must be programmed. Refer to “Quick ‘N Easy” Startup Guide. D VD Mode K ey— Press to select the operating mode for your D VD.
11 SDB Menu Operation General Menu Operation Use the CURSOR ke ys to navigate through the menu Cate gories, Features, and Options. The / cur- sor keys mo ve the highlight to the left or right. The / cursor keys mo ve the highlight up and do wn. (The Up and Down k eys mov e the highlight in a continuous loop.
12 SDB Menu Operation—Picture Picture Category The picture feature allows you to change and adjust the on-screen image by changing the aspect ratio, pix shape, and scan mode . Please note that the adjustable menu options depend on the current tuner, channel selection (DTV or NTSC), and signal reception.
13 Channel Category Use this feature to automatically search and scan for av ailable channels including NTSC and DTV channels. The Channel Category adjustable features are: Search, Scan Memory , Initial Channel, and Display Banner . Starting Channel Sear ch NO TE: An initial search occurs during the first time setup proce- dure.
Quic kTips When Initial Channel is set to OFF the SDB will tune to the last channel selected when power ed on. Each time the c hannel is changed or selected, the banner information display will appear on scr een. Use the DISPLA Y key to switch the Banner on/off .
15 Use the setup category to set the Clock/Day , Digital Audio Output, and Menu Language features. (No settings required for System Information.) The menu setup feature and options listing will depend on the current tuner/channel selection (DTV or NTSC) and current signal reception.
16 Quic kTips If you don’ t reco gnize wor ds in the on-scr een menu, change the menu option language or pr ess the r emote contr ol RESET ke y twice (personalized settings will be r eset to factory defaults). The CH MAP r emote ke y will only operate the Sanyo Digital Box.
17 Quic kTips Pr essing the CH Map r emote ke y will display a blank page with cat- e gory tabs only , if channel signals ar e not detected. When the CHannel Map page is active , only the P ower , CH Map, T uner , Enter and Cursor ke ys ar e operational.
18 Direct Channel Selection The 0~9 Number keys are used to select channels directly within the Brief Channel Number Display entry area. DTV or NTSC channels 01 through 09 can be entered using one or two digits.
19 Quic kTips Major channels can be selected fr om the CH Map page . Minor channels can be selected only when the (–) Sub CHannel ke y is pr essed; then the Major channels appears with a list of available minor channels. If the RF out jack is used, the signal will be monaural.

SDB Output Jac ks Connection 21 Connect the SDB Output jacks t o a V CR ’ s A/V input jacks. Connect V CR A/V output jacks t o the TV A/V input jacks. NO TES: • For input and digital output connections, refer to the “Quick ‘N Easy” Startup Guide Connecting Diagrams.
22 Quic kTips If Caption T ext mode is selected and no captioned text is br oadcasted, a black box may appear and r emain on the TV scr een. T o remove this blac k box, set captioning to any mode other than T ext 1 or T ext 2 or pr ess the RESET ke y to cancel caption- ing and customized settings.
23 Is the quality sound better? Y es. Problem is with program or weak signal (station, cable, or satellite reception). No. Change channels. Press AUDIO key . Did the Blue Screen disappear? Y es. Normal operating conditions. Y ou are changing channels faster than the video can be processed.
