Chapter 1: V-Switch 1-1 1 V- S w i t c h IN THIS CHAPTER The V-Switch is a storage virtualization and management solution that allows you to pool physical storage resources and re-partition the total storage capacity into virtual volumes that best meet your storage needs.

A compact flash card is inserted into the slot and the configuration dat abase is mirrored into the flash c ard for configur ation recovery if replacing a V-Swit ch 3000.
3-12 SANRAD V-Switch CLI User Manual Powering Up You can power up the V-Switch 3000 on ce you have connected and powered up the storage devices. The V-Switch 3000 contains a storag e auto-discovery function. At power- up the V-Switch 3000 automatically scans for a nd registers all attached and powered up network storage devices.

Chapter 5: V-Switch Cluster Configuration 5-1 5 V -S witch Cluster Conf iguration IN THIS CHAPTER You can configure a V-Switch cluster using two V-Switches of the same type. A cluster is a group of storage units and switches that function as one unit for vi rtualization and provide high availability in the event of V-Switch failover.
5-2 SANRAD V-Switch CLI User Manual Introduction to V-Switch Clusters Two V-Switches can be concurrently conne cted to the same storage devices to balance volume exposure thus cre ating a V- Switch cluster. In a cluster, each V- Switch interacts in an active-active, pee r-to-peer fashion with the other V- Switch, or neighbor , in the cluster.
Chapter 5: V-Switch Cluster Configuration 5-3 . When creating a cluster, it is recommended that the same port on each V-Switch is used to connect to the same storage device. This increases the chance of the storage device receiving the same default storage number on both V- Switches during their auto-discovery cycles.
