8 Installing a Memor y Card Y our dev ice supports removable microSD™ or microSDHC™ memory ca rds, for storag e of music, photos, videos, and other files. Note: Y ou can only store music f iles that you own ( from a CD or purchased with the device) on a memo ry card.
Getting Started 9 Installing the Batter y T o install t he battery: 1. Insert the battery i nto the opening on the back of the device, making sure the connecto rs align (1). 2. Gently press down to secur e the batter y (2). Note: Make sure the batter y is properly installed before switching on the device.
10 Charging the Batter y Y our device is powered by a re chargeable, standa rd Li-Ion battery. The T ravel Charger that is used to charge the ba ttery is included with your device. Use only Samsung-approved batteries and charger s. Note: The battery comes partially charged.

While the device is charging, if the touch screen does not function due to an unstable power supply , unplug the USB power ada pter from the power outlet or unplug the USB cable from the device. 3. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the Charger/Accessory Inter face connector on the device.

Getting Started 13 Set Up Y our Goog le Account Y our new device uses your G oogle account to fully use its Android features, incl uding Gmai l, Maps, Naviga tion, Google T alk, and the Androi d Market. The Set up your Google Account screen, allows you to create a new Google account or sign in , if you already have a Google account.
14 4. T ouch Use 24-hour format to enable or disable the 24-hour format. 5. T ouch Select date fo rmat to indicate how you want the date displayed. 6. T ouch Next . 20 Side View The following items can be found on the side of your device. 1. Pow er/Lock Ke y : Press and hold to turn th e device on or off. Press to lock the device or to wake the scr een for unlocking. 2. Vol u m e Ke y : From a Home screen, press to adjust Master Volume.

Note: Unless stated otherwise , instructions in this User Manual start with the device unlocked, at the Home screen. 1. Status Bar : Presents icons to s how notifica tions, batter y power , and co nnection details.
22 Extended Home Screen The Home screen consists of the Ho me panel, plus six panels that extend beyond the display width to provide m ore space for adding shortcuts, widgets, and folder s. Slide your finger horizontally across the screen to scrol l to the left or right side panels.

38 Section 3: Entering T ext This section describes how to enter words, letters, punctuation and numbers when you need to enter text. Vir tual QWERTY K eyboar d Y our device uses a v irtual QWERTY keyboard for text entry . Use the keyboard to enter lett ers , punctuation, numbers, and other characters into text entry fields or a pplications.
Entering T ext 39 Entering Upper and Low er Case Letters The default case is low er case (abc). Enter upper and l ower case alphabet letters by touching (Shift) to toggle the case, before touching the letter key(s). • T ouch once to sw itch from abc to Abc mode.
40 T ouch and then touch Add word to register a new word to XT9. 5. Continue typing your messag e. XT9 mode can be used in portrait or landscap e mode. Editing T ext Y ou can edit the text yo u enter in text fields by cutting, copying, or pasting text.

42 2. If necessary , touch (Settings) ➔ Portra it keypad types , then Handwriting box 1 or Handwriting box 2 . Handwriting box 1 has four handwriting areas, two for characters ( a ), one for numbers ( 1 ), and one for symbols and special characte rs ( ? ).
Entering T ext 43 Handwriting Tips • For uppercase letters, write the le tter larger than the lowercase letters. • Write a dash (horizontal line) to add a space. • T o wr ite numbers and s ymbols with Han dwriting bo x 1, write numbers in the lo wer left area and symbol s in the lower right area.
44 Using Speech R ecognitio n Y ou can use your voice to enter text using the Voice input feature, which lets you enter text by speaking. Sa msung Keypad recognizes your spee ch and enters text for you. Note: Enable Voice Input in Samsung keypad settings.

56 Setting Up Y our Gmail Account The first time y ou launch Gmail, your device prompts you to set up your Google acc ount. Note: Y ou can use more than one Go ogle account on your device. T o add another account, touch (Menu) ➔ Account s ➔ Add accounts .

58 Account settings • General settings – Priority Inbox : This setting is on ly available if you have configured Gmail on the web to sh ow Priority Inbox. If available, you can set Priority Inbox as the conversation list to open whe n you have new mail, rather than Inbox.
Messaging 59 4. Enter your name, which is displayed on outgoing messages. 5. T ouch Done . The device communicates with the a ppropriate ser ver to set up your account and synchronize your email. When complete, your email ap pears in the Inbox for the account.

Google T alk Google T alk is a free Windows and web-based application for instant messaging offered by Go ogle.

Internet and Social Networking 75 Latitude With Google Latitude, you can see the location of all of your friends on a map or on a list. Y ou can also share or hide your location. Y ou must first set up your tablet to use wireless networks to help pinpoint your location.

84 Section 7: Music This section explains how to us e the music features of your device including the Music Player and th e FM Radio. Music Player The Music Player plays songs from an installed mem ory card.

Music 87 FM Radio The built-in FM radio in your de vice provides free mus ic from your local FM radio stat ions. Y ou can manually or automatically scan for stations and creat e a Station List o f your fa vorite sta tions. T o use the rad io: 1. From the Home screen, touch FM Radio .

90 Camera Options and Settings Camera options and settings ar e represented by icons on the left side of the screen. While in Camera mode, touch the following ic ons to conf igure the camera: Self shot : T ouch to switch to the front-facing camera lens and take a photo of yourself.
Photos and Videos 91 Viewing Photos with the Image View er After taking a photo, use the Image View er to view , share, or delete photos. 1. To u c h (Image V iewer) to view the photo. 2. T ouch the screen to sho w or hide Image Viewer options. 3. T ouch the scre en with two fingers or double-ta p on the screen to zoom all the way in or out.
92 Note: Photos are stored in the /sdcard/DCIM/ Camera folder as jpg files. For more inform ation, refer t o “My Files” on page 123. Camcorder Use your device’ s built -in Camcorder to record h igh- definition video in 720p resolution. 1. From a Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Camera .

94 Viewing Videos with the Image View er After recording a video, use the Image Viewer to play, share, or delete your video. 1. T ouch (Image Viewer) to view the video. 2. T ouch the screen to show or hide Image Viewer options. 3. Sweep across the screen to display the next or previous video.
Photos and Videos 95 Videos Y our device’ s 4.2-inch 800x480 WVGA TFT LCD touch screen provides playback of videos. Use the Videos app to view and manage videos stored on an install ed memory card.
96 Adjusting Screen View While viewing a video, you can also adjust the s creen view . Screen view allows yo u to select Original Size, Full-Screen, or Full-Screen in Ratio to view y our video. Note: The screen view icons are a three-way toggle. The icon that is displayed, is the mode that appears after the icon is touched.
