Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section helps yo u to quickly start using your device. Understanding T his User Manual The sections of thi s manual generally follow the f eatures of your device. A robust index for features begins on page 166.
6 Batter y Y o ur device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion battery . Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your device for the first time. After the first charge, you can use the device while charging.
Getting Started 7 T ur ning Y our Device On and Off T ur ni ng Y our Device On 䊳 Press and hold the Pow e r / Lo c k Key . Note: Y our device’ s internal antenna is located along the top back of the device. Do not block the antenna; doing so may affect signal quality and may cause the device to operate at a higher power level than is necessary.
8 T ask Manager Y o ur device can run applicat ions simultaneously and some applications run in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which applications are running on your device and to end runn in g applica tions to extend battery life. Y ou can also uninstall applications from your devi ce and see how much memory is used by applications.

Remo ving a Memor y Car d Import ant!: T o prevent damage to information stored on the memory card, unmount the card before removing it from the device. 1. From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key ➔ Settings ➔ SD card and device storage ➔ Unmount SD card .
10 Locking t he device manuall y 䊳 Press the Power/Lock Key . Unloc king the device 1. Press the Power/Lock Key . The locked screen displays Sweep glass to unlock . The day , date, and time also display . 2. T ouch and sweep across the screen, either to the left or right, as indicated on the sc reen.
Getting Started 11 Android System Reco ver y Android System Recovery is used for Google updates. The average user should never need to perform a system recovery. Note: If you entered this menu by mistake, use the Volume Up/Down key to select reboot system now , then touch the Home Key .

Understanding Y our Device 13 F r ont and T op Views The following items can be found on the fron t and top of your device as illustra ted. 1. Strap Hole : Allows you to attach an optional strap. 2. External Speaker : Used for music or video playback, notification tones, and for other sounds.
14 Side View The following items ca n be found on the side of your dev ice. 1. Pow e r / Lo c k K e y : Press a nd hold to turn the device on or off. Press to lock the device or to wake the screen for unlocking. 2. V olume Key : From a Home screen, press to adjust Master Volume.
Understanding Y our Device 15 Home Screen The Home screen is the starti ng point for using your device. Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this User Manual start with the device unlocked, at the Home screen. 1. Status Bar : Presents icons to show notifications, ba ttery power , and connection details.
16 Extended Home Screen The Home screen consi sts of the Home pane l, plus s ix panels that extend beyond the display wi dth to provide more space for adding shortcuts, widgets, and folders. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side panels.
Understanding Y our Device 17 Naviga ting Y our Device Use command keys and the touc h screen to navigate. Command Keys Menu Key To u c h t h e Menu Key to display options for the current screen or feature. Home K ey To u c h t h e Home Key to display the first Home screen.
18 Pinch Use two fingers, such as your inde x finger and thumb, to make an in wa rd pinch motion on the screen, as if you are picking something up, or an outward motion by sweeping your fingers out. For example: • Pinch the Home screen to show customization options.
Understanding Y our Device 19 • Auto rotatio n : T ouch to enable or disable auto rotation. When enabled, the screen orientation changes when you rotate the dev ice. When disabled, the screen locks in the current orientation (horizontal or vertical) and the orientation does not change when you rotate the device.
20 Google T alk Invitation : Someone has invi ted you to chat using Google T a lk. Refresh : An account is being refreshed. Alarm Set : An alarm is active. For more information, refer to “Clock” on pa ge 89. Silent Mode : All sounds exc ept media and alarms are silenced, and Vibrate mo de is not active.

Applications that you do wnload and install f rom the Android Market or from the we b are also added to the Applications screen. Y ou can place shortcuts to a pplic ations on the Home screen for quick access to the application.
26 Downloads : Files, apps, and other items you downlo ad in Browser , Gmail, Email, or in other ways, are stored on your tablet’s internal storage. Use the Downloads app to view, reopen, or delete wha t you have downloaded. For more in formation, refer to “Downloads” on page 91.

Music : Play music s tored on an optional in stalled memory card. By default, a shortcut to Music a ppears on each Home screen as a Prima ry Shortcut.
28 Vid eo s : Play and manage videos st ored on an installed memory card. By default, a shortcut to Video appears on each Home screen as a Primary Sh ortcut. For more information, refer to “Videos” on page 75. Voice Reco rder : Record your voice or other sounds, and shar e via Blue tooth or Gmail.
Entering T ext 29 Section 3: Entering T ext This section describes how to en ter words, letters, punctuation and numbers when yo u need to enter text. Vir tual QWERTY Keyboard Y our device uses a virt ual QWERTY keyb oard for text entry.

Entering T ext 31 • Accented characters : Just glide through the letters of the word. Swype usually recognizes the word and correctly accents the letters. • Error correction : If you make a mistake, double-tap on the word y ou want to change. Confi guring Swy pe Configure Swype to your preferences.
32 Editin g Keyboard The Editing Keyboard provides a qui ck way to move the cursor and highlight text. If the applic ation in which you are workin g supports editing, you can cut, co py , or paste highlighted text. T o display the Editing Keyboard: 1.
Entering T ext 33 Entering Upper and Low er Case Letter s The default case is lo wer case (abc). Enter upper and lower case alphabet letters by touching the Shift ke y to toggle the case, before touc hing the lett er key(s).
34 5. Continue typing your message . XT9 mode can be used in portrait or landscape mode. Editing T ext Y o u can edit the te xt you enter in text fields by cu tting, copying, or pasting text.

36 4. Use your finger tip to write out each character . 5. When you write single letters, suggestions are offered in the Letter Options area. The suggested letter appears in blue. If that suggestio n is incorrect, touch one of the other letters. Handwr itin g Tips • For uppercase letters, write the letter larger than the lowercase letters.

38 Section 4: Contacts and Accounts This section explains how to ma nage contacts and accounts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, inf ormation on yo ur device is updated with any information that changes in your accounts.
Contacts and Accounts 39 Setting Up a Facebook Account Note: Y ou must register your device with your social networking site before using the device to access the network. 1. From a Home screen, touch the Menu Key ➔ Settings ➔ Accounts and sync ➔ Add account ➔ Facebook .

42 Get Friends Use the Get Friends feature to sync with you r accounts. Y ou can choose an account you have alre ady added or add a new account. For more information about sett ing up accounts on your device, see “Setting Up Y our Accounts” on page 38.
Contacts and Accounts 43 Sendin g a Namecar d (vCar d) Y ou can send contact namecard s as vCards by way of Bluetooth to other Bluetooth de vices or in an Email or Gmail a s an attachment. Note: Not all Bluetooth devices accept contacts and not all devices support transfers of multiple contacts.

62 Latitude With Google Latitu de, you can see the location of a ll of your friends on a map or on a list. Y o u can also share or hide your location. Y ou must first set up your tablet to use wireless networks to help pinpoint your location. Also, Lati tude works best when Wi-Fi is enabled.

Music 67 Section 7: Music Music Player The Music Player plays songs from an installed memory card. 1. From a Home screen, touch Music . 2. Music Player scans your memo ry card and displays songs on the All , Playlists , Albums , or Artists tabs. 3. T ouch a song or playlist to begin playback.

Photos and Videos 71 Section 8: Photos and Videos Camera Use your device’ s built-in camera to take photos and record video. 䊳 From the Home screen, touch Camera . – or – From a Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Came ra . Important!: Do not take photos of people without their permission.

Photos and Videos 75 Videos Y our device’ s 5-inch 800x480 S uper Clear LCD touch screen provides play back of videos. Use Videos to view and manage videos stored on an installed memo ry card.
76 While viewing a video, you can also adjust the screen view . Screen view allo ws you to select Original Size, Full-Scre en, or Full-Screen in Ra tio to view your video. Note: The screen view icons are a three-way toggle. The icon that is displayed, is the mode that appears after the icon is touched.

86 AllShare Use AllShare to share multimedia content from your dev ice through Wi-Fi with DLNA (Digital Living Net work Alliance) certified devi ces. With AllShare, y ou can: • Play multimedia conten t from your device on another player , such as a Wi-Fi-capable TV or other playback device.
Applications and Widge ts 87 • Play file from server on other player via my phone : Y ou can enjoy mult imedia content saved on your PC or lapt op using other devices like your TV or Hi-Fi. Y ou can then use yo ur device like a remote con trol. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Applications and Widge ts 91 Stopwa tch Y ou can use this option to measure inter vals of time. 1. From a Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Clock . 2. T ouch the Stopwatch tab at the top of the Cl ock screen. 3. T ouch Start to start the stopwatch and touch Lap to mark a unit of time per lap.
92 3. T ouch a download item to open it. 4. T ouch headings for earlier downloads to view them. 5. T o delete items, touch the check box to the left of each item you want to delete. Then touch Delete . T ouch Deselect all to remove all check ma rks. Warning!: When you delete an item, it is deleted from your device’ s storage or SD card.
