About histograms A histogram is a gr aph that illustrates how ligh t is distributed in your photo . If the histogram has a high peak on the left, the photo is undere xposed and will appear dark.

Capturing photos Basic functions 32 Zooming Y ou can capture close-up photos by adjusting the zoom. Zoom in Zoom out Zoom ratio Digital zoom The Digital zoom is supported by default in Shooting mode. If you z oom in on a subject in Shooting mode and the zoom indicator is in the digital range, y our camera is using the Digital zoom.
Capturing photos Basic functions 33 Intelli zoom If the zoom indicator is in the Intelli range, y our camera is using the Intelli zoom. Photo resolution varies acc ording to the zoom r ate if you use the Intelli z oom. By using both the Optical zoom and Intelli zoom, you can z oom in up to 52 times.
Capturing photos Basic functions 34 Reducing camera shake In Shooting mode, you can set either the Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) or the Dual Image Stabilizer (Dual IS) to reduce or eliminat e picture blurriness from camera shake. Extended functions 38 Using the Smart Auto mode In Smar t Auto mode , your camera automatically chooses the appr opriate camera settings based on the type of scene it detects. The Smar t Auto mode is helpful if you ar e not familiar with the camera settings for various scenes .

Shooting options 54 Selec ting a resolution As you increase the r esolution, your photo or video will include mor e pixels , so it can be printed on larger paper or display ed on a larger screen. When you use a high resolution, the le size will also increase .
