Charging the Batter y Y our device comes with a Wall/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) to charge your device from any standard AC power outlet . Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your device for the firs t time.
Note: If the battery is completely discharged, you cannot turn on the device, even with the USB po wer adapter connected. Allow a depleted batte ry to charge for a few minutes before you try to turn on the device. T ur ning Y our Device On and Off T ur ning Y our Device On Press and hold the Power/Lock Key .

Memor y Car d Y our device supports removable microSD or microSDHC memory cards with ma ximum capacities of 64 GB (depending on the memory ca rd manufacturer and type). Memory cards are used to s tore music, photos, videos, and other files. Installing a Memor y Card 1.

Section 2: Understanding Y our Device This section outlines key features of your device and describes the screen and the icons that appear when the device is in use. Naviga ting Y our De vice Use command keys and the touch s creen to navigate. Command K eys Recent Apps T o display a lis t of recently used apps: To u c h Recent apps . T ouch an a p p to open it. T o close an app: Drag the app preview up or down.
Using the T ouch Screen Use only your fingers or a stylus with the touch screen. Caution! Do not allow th e touch screen to come into c ontact with other electrical device s.
T ouching and Holding T ouch and hold an item for mo re than 2 seconds to access availabl e options. Dragging T o move an icon, thumbnail, or preview to a new location, touch and hold it an d drag it to the target position.
Double-T appin g Double-tap on a web page, map, or ima ge to zoom in a part. Double-tap again to zoom out again. Swipe Swipe left or right on the Home scre en or the Applications screen to see another panel. Swipe up or down to s croll through a web page or a list, such as contacts.
Pinching and Spreading Spread two fingers apart on a web page, map, or image t o zoom in. Pinch to zoom out. Contro l Motions Simple motions allo w easy control of the device. Before using motions, make sure the motion fea ture is activated. 1. From a Home screen, touch Settings Controls tab Motions .
Note: Some applications do not a llow screen rotation. Some applications display a differ ent screen de pending on the orientation. For example, th e calculator turns into a scientific calculator when rota ted to landscape. Tilting T ouch and hold two points on the screen, and then tilt the device back and forth to zoom in or out.
Palm Motions Use palm motions to control the device by touching the screen. Before using motions, make sure the palm motion feature is activated. 1. From a Home screen, touch Settings Controls tab Pal m mo tion . 2. If necessar y , touch the OFF / ON button to turn the feature ON .
Capturing Scr e enshots Press and hold the Power/Lock Key and Home to capture and sa ve an image of the current screen. Note: A copy of the screenshot is automa tically saved to the cli pbo ard . T o view the screen shots: 1. From a Home screen, touch My Fil es .

It consists of: • Status Bar : The Status Bar displays notifi cations on the left side and status indicators on the right side.
Additional Home Screens There are two types of Home s creen. The Standard panels display shortcuts to applic a tions and widgets and the Magazine panels can host Ne ws, Social, and Application widgets.
T o resize a Magazine Widget: 1. T ouch and hold a Widget until a gold box appears around it. 2. D rag a side of the box to resize it. The other Widgets automatically adjust to accommodate the resi zed window . Note: Not all Widgets can be resi zed. T o rel ocate a Magazine Widget: 1.
Add or remove Widgets: Widgets currently in use on the acti ve page display a check ma rk. To u c h a Widget to add it to the active page. To u c h to remove the Widget from the acti ve page. Change the layout of Widgets: To u c h Change layout to randomly rearrange the Widgets on the active page.
5. T o clear a single notification, drag the notification left or right. T ouch to clear all notifica tions. 6. T o close the Notification Panel, swipe upwar d from the bottom of the screen or touch Back .

Wallpapers Y ou can choose a picture to display on the Home Screen, Lock screen, or on both the Home and Lock screens. Choose from preloaded wallpa pers, or select a photo you have downloaded or taken with the Camera . 1. From a Home scre en, touch and hold on an empty area of the screen until the Home scree n pop-up displays.
T o view your dow nloaded applications: 1. From a Home screen, touch . 2. T ouch to view downloaded apps. 3. T ouch an icon on the Download ed applicat ions screen to launch the a pplication. – or – Add an App Shortcut to a Home screen by dragging the App icon onto the Home screen.
Entering T ext Use the Samsung keyboard or the voice input fea ture to enter text. Note: T ext entr y is not supported in some languages. T o enter text, you must change the in put language to one of the supported languages. Using the K eyboar d T o choose a text input method w hile entering text: 1.
Enterin g T ext By V oice Activate the voice input feat ure and then speak into the microphone. The device displays what you speak. If the device does not reco gnize your words, touch the underlined text and select an altern ative word or phrase from the drop-down list.
Section 3: Accounts and Contacts This section explains how to ma nage accounts and contacts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, infor mation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.
Y our Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fulles t extent, you will need to create a Google Account when you first use your device. With a Google Account, Google a pplications will always be in sync between your tablet and computer .
3. T ouch each field to enter information. T ouch to add another entry, or to remove an entry . T ouch to choose a label. • Picture : T ouch the picture icon to assign a picture to the new contact. • Name : Enter the name. T ouch to display additional name fields.
Contacts Display Options There are various ways to display your contacts. 1. From a Home screen, touch Contacts . 2. T ouch the Groups tab, Fav ori tes tab, or Contacts tab to view contacts in various ways: •G r o u p s : Display contacts sorted into groups —such as Not assigned, Co-workers, Fa mily, Friends, etc.
Linking Contacts 1. From a Home screen, touch Contacts . 2. T ouch a contact in the Contacts list to display it . 3. T ouch Menu Link contact. 4. T ouch the contact you want to link. The linked contact’ s information is displayed w ith the original contact’ s information.
Impor ting and Exporting Contacts T o back up and restore your contacts, you can export your contacts list to a stora ge device (such as a PC), or import your contacts list from a storage device. 1. Use the USB cable to connect your device to the storage device.
Adding Group Members T o add a contact t o a group, just e dit a contact’ s Group field . For mor e information, refer to “Updating Contacts ” on page 39. T o add multiple contacts to a group: 1. From a Home screen, touch Contacts Groups tab.
Deleting Groups 1. From a Home screen, touch Contacts Groups tab Menu Delete groups . 2. T ouch individual groups or touch Select a ll , then touch Done . 3. T ouch Group only to delete only the group or Group and group memb ers to delete both the gr oup and the group’ s members.
Section 4: Messaging This section describes ho w to send and receive messages and other features as sociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our device supports these types of messages: • Email • Gmail • Hangouts • Google+ Note: Y our Wi-Fi-only device does NOT support voice calling and messaging ser vices.
Note: For E xchange ActiveSync acco unts, the Activate device administ rator? screen may appear . Read the in formation and touch Activate to continue. 5. Enter an account name an d your name, if required. 6. T ouch Done . The device co mmunicates with the appropriate ser ver to set up your account and synchronize your email.
Email Settings Use the Email Settings to configure your Email preferences. Note: Available settings depend on the email prov ider . 1. From a Home screen, touch Email . 2. T ouch Menu Settings , then touch General s ettings . The following options display: •D i s p l a y : Set how email is shown in th e email list and w hen you open them.
Setting Up Y our Gmail Account If you did not set up a Google Account during the initial configuration, the fi rst time yo u launch Gmail, your device prompts you to set up your Google Account. 1. From a Home screen, touch Google folder Gmail .
Composing and Sendin g Gmail 1. From a Home screen, touch Google folder Gmail . 2. T ouch Compose , then touch fields to compose the message. While com posing a message, touch Menu for options. 3. T ouch SEND to send this messa ge. – or – T ouch Menu Save draft to save a draft of this message.
Google+ Google+ makes messaging a nd sharing with your friends a lot easier . Y ou can set up Circles of friends, visit the Stream to get upda tes from your Circles, use Messenger f or fast messaging with everyone in yo ur Circles, or use Instant Upload to automatically upload videos and photos to your own private album on Google+.
Section 5: Multime dia This section explains how to use the music features of your device including the Music app and the Music Player . Flipboard and WatchON are also described. Listening to Music Y ou can listen to music using your device’s built-in speakers, through a wired headset, or thr ough a Bluetooth headset.
Music Player Use the Music application to l isten to music. T o access Music Player: 1. From a Home screen, touch Music . Note: Some file formats are not supported depending on the software installed on the device. Some files may not play properly depending on the encoding met hod used.
•S e t t i n g s : The following settings display: Player – SoundAlive : Configure SoundAlive. – Adapt Sound : Enhance sound quality. – Play speed : Decrease or increase play s pee d. – Music auto off : Set the op tion Off or set your music to turn off automatically by touch ing one o f the time values.
Renaming a Playlist 1. T ouch the Playlists tab and, unde r My playlists , touch a playlist. 2. T ouch Menu Edit ti tle . 3. Use the keyboard to enter a new name for the playlist and touch OK . Changing the Order of a Playlist 1. T ouch the Playlists tab and, unde r My playlists , touch a playlist.
Playing Music 1. From a Home screen, touch Music . 2. T ouch a song or touch an album or genre and then touch a song in the list of s ongs on the album. The song you touch starts to play . Unle ss you choose a repeat option, the tracks in the current list play i n order until the end of the list is r eac hed.
During playback, the following controls are available: Scan for DLNA-enabled devices . Volume control and Soun dAlive. Volume control sho wing volume muted. T ouch to view and set SoundAlive op tions. Access settings. F o r more information, refer to “Opti ons While Play ing a Song” on page 57.
Options While Playing a Song There are various options and controls a vailable while a song is playing: 1. From a Home screen, touch Music , touch a playlist or an album, and then a song.
Flipboar d Use this applica tion to access your personalized magazines. Important! Before you use Flipboard, verify that you have an active Internet connection a vailable. For more information, refer to “Wi-Fi” on page 75. 1. From a Home screen, touch Flipboard .

Watch ON Enjoy all of your fa vorite movies and TV shows with WatchON. Important! Before you use WatchON, verify that you have an active Internet connection a vailable. For more information, refer to “Wi-Fi” on page 75. Notes 1. Before beginning your initial WatchON application setup, make sure that yo ur TV is turned off.

• Drama : T ake a series of photos and combine them to create an image t hat shows tr ails of the mo vement. T o get the best shot, fo llow these tips. The device m a y not take photos properly in other shooting conditions. – Hold the camera steady and remain still while taking photos.
Panoramic Photos A panoramic photo is a wide landscape image consisting of multiple shots. 1. T ouch MODE Pan or am a . 2. T ouch and move the camera in one direction. When the blue frame aligns with the viewfinder , the camera automatically takes another s hot in a panoramic sequence.
Use one of the following methods: Use the Vol um e button to zoom in or out. Spread two fingers a part on the screen to z o om in, and pinch to zoom out. Note: The zoom in and out effect is available when using the zoom feature while shooting vi deo .
Share Shot To u c h Options and select one of the following: • Share shot : Send a photo directly to anothe r device via Wi-Fi Direct. • Buddy photo share : Set the device to recogn ize a person’ s face that you have tagged in a photo and send it to that person.
• ISO : Select an ISO value . This controls camera light sensitivity . It is measured in film- camera equivalents. Low v alues are for stationary or brightly-lit objects. Higher values a re for fast- moving or poorly-lit objects. • Smart stabilization : Activate or deactivate anti-shake.
• Flash : Activate or deactivate the flash. • Voice control : Set the camera to take photo s with voice comman ds. • Contextual filename : Set the camera to display co ntextual tags. Activate this to use T ag Buddy in Gallery . • Save as flipped : Invert the image t o create a mirror -image of the original scene.
Galler y Use this application to v iew images and videos. Fro m a Home screen , touch Gallery . Note: Some file format s are not supported depending on the software installed on the device. Some files may not play properly depending on the encoding method used.
Playing Videos Video files show the icon on their thumbnails. Select a video t o watch it and touch . T rimming Segments of a Video 1. Select a video, and then touch Tr i m . 2. Move the start bracket to the desired star ting point, move the end bracket to the desire d ending point, and then save the video.
Modifying Images While viewing an image, touch Menu Edit and use the following f unctions: •R o t a t e : Rotate the image. •C r o p : Crop the image. •C o l o r : Adjust the saturation o r brightness of the image. •E f f e c t : Apply effects to the image.
T agging Faces 1. T ouch Menu Settings Ta g s Fac e ta g . A yellow frame appe ars around the recognized face. 2. T ouch the face, touch Add name , and then select or add a contact. 3. When the face ta g appears on an image, touch the face tag and use availa ble options, such as sending messages.

Access additional options. 5. T ouch to display the volume control, and then touch and drag on the scale to se t volume.
Deleting Videos To u c h Menu Delete , select videos by ticking, and then touch Delete . Sharing Videos T ouch Menu Share via , select videos by ticking, touch Done , and then select a sharing method. Using P opup Video Player Use this feature to use other applicat ions without c losing the video player .
Section 7: Connection s Y our device includes features to connect to the internet and to other devices by using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or a USB cable. W i-Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that provides access to local area networks . Use your device’ s Wi-Fi feature to: • Access the internet for browsing o r to send and receive email.
Scan and Connect to a Wi-Fi Netw or k When you turn on Wi-Fi, yo ur device searches for and displays available Wi-Fi connections. 1. From any screen, touch the top of the screen and swipe downward. The N otification Panel displays. 2. T ouch Wi-Fi to turn Wi-F i ON (green).
Wi-Fi Status Indicators The following icons sho w your current Wi-Fi connection stat us at a glan ce: Displays when Wi-Fi is connected, active, and communicating with a Wireless Access Point (WAP). Displays when th ere is a Wi-Fi access point available but you are not connecte d to it.
– Wi-Fi timer : Specify the Starting time and the Ending time for Wi-Fi to be automatically connec ted. – Install certificates : Install authentication certifica tes. – MAC address : View your device’ s MAC address, which is required when connecting to some sec ured networks (not configurable).
6. On the target device, touch Accept (you have 30 seconds to touch Accept ). Once connected, the target device will show as Connected in your list of Wi-Fi Direct devices and the icon will display on the Status Bar .
T ur ning Bluetooth On or Off From the No tification P anel 1. From any screen, touch the top of the screen and swipe downward. The N otification Panel displays. 2. T ouch Bluetooth to turn Bluetooth on (green) or off (grey). From Se ttings 1. From a Home screen, touch Settings Connections tab Bluetoot h .
5. W hen you see the name of the target device displayed in the Av ailable devices section, touch the name. Y our tablet will attempt t o pair with the target device. • If requested, enter the passcode displayed on the targ et device. 6. The pairing and connection status is displayed below the target device in the Available devices section.
Disconnect or Unpair from a Bluetooth De vice Follow these instructions to disconnect or unpai r your tablet from a Bluetooth device. Disconnect from a Bluetooth Device 1. From a Home screen, touch Settings Connections tab Bluetoot h . 2. T ouch the OFF / ON button to tu rn Bluetooth ON .

Accessing Files Received via Bluetooth 1. From a Home screen, touch Settings Connections tab Bluetoot h . 2. T ouch Menu Received files . 3. T ouch a file to open it. When you open a received fil e, what happens next depends on the file type: • Media files and docum ents are usually opened directly in a compatible application.
Managing Downloads Files, apps, and other items you download in Internet, Gmail, Email, or in other ways, are store d on your tablet’ s inter nal storage.
T o uninstall an a pp from the Apps screen: 1. From a Home screen, touch . 2. T ouch Menu Uninstall/disable apps to display the Uninstall screen. – or – T ouch Download and then touch Menu Uninstall . A appe ars on Apps that can be uninstalled or disabled.

Important! If you touch or cover the internal GPS ante nna while using GPS ser vices, it may impede the GPS signal resulting in the GPS ser vices not working in an optimal manner . T o locate the a pproximate location o f the internal GPS antenna, see “Back, T op, and Bottom” on page 14.
5. RAM manager : Display the amount of Random Access Memory (RAM) currently in use. T ouch Clear memory to clear inactive and background processes. 6. Storage : View internal (System stora ge) and external (SD card) storage me mory statistics.
Alar m Set alarms for reminder s or for wake-up times. 1. From a Home screen, touch Samsung folder Alarm . 2. T ouch Tu r n a l a r m o n to activate the alarm. A gray alarm means the alarm is dea ctivated. 3. T ouch an alarm to change any of its settings and then touch Save to save the u pdates.
Calculator The Calculator provides basic and advanced arithmetic functions. 1. From a Home screen, touch Samsung folder Calculator . 2. Enter the first number u sing the nu meric keys. 3. Ente r the operation for your calculation by touching the corresponding onscreen arithmetic function key.
