Printing quality problems 207 5. Troubleshooting Character voids Character voids are white areas within parts of characters that should be solid black: • If you are using transparencies, try anothe r type of transparency. Because of the co mposition of transparencies, some characte r voids are normal.
Printing quality problems 208 5. Troubleshooting • An unknown image repetitively appears on a few sheets • Loose toner • Light print or contamination occurs Your machine is probably being use d at an altitu de of 1,000 m ( 3,281 ft) or above. The high altitude may affect the print qual ity, such as loose toner or light imaging.
209 5. Troubleshooting Operating system problems 1 Common Windows problems Condition Suggested solutions “File in Use” message appears during installation. Exit all software applications. Remove all software from the st artup group, then restart Window s.
Operating system problems 210 5. Troubleshooting Refer to the Microsoft Windows User’s Guide that came with yo ur computer f or further informat ion on Windows error messages. 2 Common Mac problems Refer to the Mac User’s Guide that came with your computer for further information on Mac error messages.
Operating system problems 211 5. Troubleshooting 3 Common Linux problems Refer to the Linux User’s Guide that came with your computer for further information on Linux error messages.
