5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by fi rst configurin g your hardware, activating your ser vice, and then setting up your voice mail.

Understanding Y our Phone 22 Bac klight A backlight illumina tes the display and the k eypad. When you press any key , the backli ght comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, depending on the setting within the Backlight menu.
23 Help Help is designed to work with t-zones to show you some of the uni que features of your pho ne. Y ou can search help files on the fly whil e traveling , at home or anywh ere, using he lp.wap.t-mobile .com. 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu ➔ Help and press the Select soft key or the key .

Wi-Fi 26 Connecting to W i-Fi for the First Time Important !: Y ou must set up your wireless router first before using your phone to connect to Wi-Fi. F or T-Mobile routers, run the CD that comes with the router and follow its instructions.
27 Y ou are connected to your first Wi-F i network and can begin making calls us ing Wi-F i or yo ur regular T -Mobile GSM network. T o acce ss all of the Wi-Fi fe atures on your phone, go to Men u > Settings > Wi-Fi . If the T utorial does not disp lay on your phone, see “Connecting to Wi-F i Networks” on page 27.
Wi-Fi 28 A v ailable Netw or ks This list of available ne tworks dis plays all the availabl e Wi-F i networks to whic h you can c onnect. The n etworks a re listed in t he order of t heir signal strength, from the strongest signal to the weakest.

The phon e searches f or all avai lable net works and t hen dis plays a li st of availa ble net works.
Wi-Fi 30 A v ailable Netw orks Options From the Available Networks menu, press the Options soft key to use the fol lowing opti ons: • Refre sh : Refreshes the list of available networks to inc lude any recent changes, for ex ample new Wi-F i networks recen tly set up or others that were removed from service.
31 Conn ect t o a Specif ic Sav ed N etwork 1. From the idle screen, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Wi-Fi ➔ Saved Networks and press the Select soft key or the key . The phone displays your Saved N etworks list. 2. Highlight the net work to which you want to connect and press Options > Connect .
Wi-Fi 32 • Add new : Adds a new network to your Saved Networks list. This option als o allows you to manually add settings for the new network. The submenu items for the Add New menu are as follows: – From A vailable Netw orks : Allows you to add a new netw ork from t he list of Availab le Network s.

Wi-Fi 34 Get Security K ey Select t he Get Security Key option from the Wi-F i menu to acquire the security ke y fo r a T-Mobile Wi-Fi compatible phone from a T- Mobile wireless router . When used with a n open net work, the Ge t Securit y Ke y process crea tes a WP A key on the router .
35 Use Get Security K ey 1. F rom the Idl e screen , press Me nu ➔ Settings ➔ Wi-Fi opti on and press th e Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight the Ge t Security Key option and press the Select soft key or the key . 3. F ollow the on-screen prompts to step through the process of acqu iring secu rity keys.
Wi-Fi 36 Add F rom Available Netwo r k Option T o add a new network t o your Saved Ne tworks list fro m your list of av ailable ne tworks: 1. In Idle mode , press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Wi-Fi option and press the S elect soft key or the key . 2. Highlight the Add New Network ➔ From A v ailable Networks option and pres s the Se lect soft key .

Press the Down key to h ighlight the Non-broadcast SSID option. Press th e key to place a c heckmark in this box if yo ur router does N OT broadcast its SSID.
39 Section 4: Call Functions This section describes how to ma ke or a nswer a ca ll. It also ex plains t he features and func tionali ty associ ated with making or answe ring a call. Call Functions 40 R edialing the Last Nu mber The phone stores the numbers of the calls you’v e dialed, re ceived, or missed if th e caller i s iden tified . T o recall any of th ese numbers: 1. Press the key to return to Idle mode (if you typed characters on the display).
41 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call , use the Volume keys on the left side o f the phone, to adjust t he speaker volu me. 䊳 Press the key to incr ease the volume l evel and the key t o decrease the spea ker volume level.
Call Functions 42 The following Call Reco rd options are av ailable: All calls This menu lets you view the 9 0 most rece nt calls you received , dialed, and missed. The name or n umber , if already stor ed in your Ph onebook, dis plays w ith the nu mber of occ urrences fo r each number .
43 3. Highlight a call record and press th e Optio ns soft key for the foll owing opti ons: • Call b ac k : Allow s yo u to re turn th e call . Ti p: Y ou can also return the call from the Idle screen by pressing the Cal l soft key .
Call Functions 44 Delete all This menu allo ws you to delet e all of the records in ea ch call type separatel y , or you can de lete al l of your c all types at o ne t im e. 1. In Idle mode , press Menu ➔ Call record s ➔ Delete all and pres s the Select soft key or the key .
45 T o exit and reactivate the previous sound settin gs: 䊳 Press and hold the key again unti l the “Exit Vibration Mo de” message displays. Th e Vibration Mode icon ( ) no longer display s. Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of customiz ab le functions.
Call Functions 46 In some fun ctions, you are as ked for a pas sword or PIN. Enter the corre ct code and press the OK soft key or the key . When you a ccess a li st of opt ions, you r phone hi ghlights th e currently ac tive op tion.
47 T o switch betwe en the t wo call s: 1. Press the Options soft key , select Swap , and press t he key . The curr ent ac tive call is placed on ho ld and the call on hold is then reac tivated so tha t you can continue conver sing with that person. 2.
Call Functions 48 Muting or Sending K ey T ones These options allo w you to turn the k ey tones of f or on. If th e Mute keys option is On, yo ur phone does not transmit the DTMF (Dual T one Multi-Frequenc y) tones of the keys, which t hen allo ws you t o pr ess k eys wi thout heari ng annoying key tones during a call.
49 T o answer a new ca ll while ano ther call is in p rogress: 1. Press either the Accept soft key or the key to answer t he incoming call. The first call is automa ticall y put on hold. 2. T o s witch between the two calls, press the Options soft key , highlight Sw ap and press the Sele ct soft key or the key .
Call Functions 50 6. Press the Options soft key or the ke y . Select the Join opti on and press the Select soft key or the key . Note: There are a maximum of two callers that can be joined to a single multi-party line.
51 Section 5: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’ s range of functions to your needs u sing me nus and sub-menus. Menus and sub-menus can be accessed by sc rolling using the Naviga tion keys or by u sing th e shortcuts .
Menu Navigation 52 Using Sh or tcuts The menu items, such as me nus, sub-menus, and op tions, are numbere d and can be accessed quickly by using their shortcut numbers. F or the main menus, press the corre sponding numb er keys (1 to 0) to access any one of the shortcu ts.
53 Section 6: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select th e desired text inpu t mode w hen entering characters into yo ur phone. This section also describes how to u se th e T9 predictiv e text system to reduce th e number of key strokes associated with enteri ng text.
Entering T ext 54 1. Press the Right soft key to display the Input mode menu. The foll owing options a re availabl e: • T9 mode : allo ws you to enter text in T9 mode . •A B C m o d e : allows you t o enter text. • Number mode : allows you to enter numbers.
55 The word that you type displays on the screen. The wo rd may chan ge with ea ch consec utive k ey that you press. 2. Enter the whol e word bef ore editin g or delet ing the key strokes.
Entering T ext 56 T o shift case in T9 mode: 䊳 Press the key There are 3 cases: I nitial ca pital, Ca pital lock , and Lower ca se. Note: Y ou can move the cursor by using the Na vigation keys. T o delete characters: 䊳 Press the key . Press and hold the key to clear the display .
57 Ke y s By defaul t, the fi rst lette r of an entr y is capit alized and al l consecutive le tter s are kept in lowe rcase (unless the S hift key is used). After a character is entered , the cursor automatically advanc es to the next spac e after two seconds or when you ent er a cha racter on a differe nt key .
Entering T ext 58 Using Symbolic Mode Symbol ic mod e enable s you to inse rt symbols and punctuation mark s into text. T o display a list of symbols press the Right soft k ey and selct Symbol ic from th e menu list. 1. Press the corresponding numb er key to selec t a symbol.
59 Section 7: Under standing Y our Phonebook This section explains ho w to use and manage your Phon ebook. Y ou can save phone numbers to you r phone’ s memory or to your SIM card. Using Contact List The Contact List displays all the phone numbers a nd contact information stored on both the phone’ s memor y and the SIM card.

The following type s are availabl e: • Mobile : assi gns the number en tered to the Mobi le e ntr y . •H o m e : assigns the number entered to the Home entry .
61 3. Highlight SIM ca rd and press the Select soft key or th e key . Note: Y ou can also set the Def ault saving option to Ask on saving in the Management menu. With this option, you are prompted for a storage location each time you add a new contact.

65 Editing a Caller Group Note: View contacts must be set to Phone and SIM card in order to make the Groups option accessible. 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Groups option and pres s the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight the group yo u want and pres s the Options soft key .
Understandin g Y our Phonebook 66 Block List 1. In Idle mode , press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Block list and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. The first time you add to the block list, Highlight [Add to block lis t] and press the OK soft key .
67 Management The Management menu allows yo u to select where your contacts are saved, copy yo ur SIM contacts to your phone, delete your contacts, so rt by contacts , or check your memory sta tus. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Managemen t and press the key .
Understandin g Y our Phonebook 68 Memor y Status Y ou can check how many names and nu mbers are stored in the Phonebook, within both the SIM card, Phone memor y , and the FDN. Y ou can also see t he cu rrent storage ca pacity of both memories. 1. In Idle mode , press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Management and press the Select soft key or th e key .
69 FDN List FDN (F ixed Dial Nu mber) mod e, if supported by your SIM card , allows you to rest rict your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers. The FDN List al lows yo u to set up a li st of numbers your phon e may dial. Use Security settings to enable FDN mode.
Messages 70 Section 8: Messa ges This section describe s how to send or receive di fferent ty pes of me ssages. It also ex plains the featu res and functio nality asso ciate d with messa ging.
71 3. Create your message. Note: For further details about entering characters, see “Changing the T ext Input Mode” on pa ge 53. Y ou can enter up to 160 standard Alphabet characters per page in your messa ge. The message can be up to 12 pages long for a total of 1920 characters.
Messages 72 Picture Messa ges This menu allows you to use the M ultimedia Message Ser vice (MMS). Picture Messaging is a messa ging servic e that provi des deli ver y of personal picture messa ges from phone to phone or from phone to em ail. The Pic ture Messag e icon ( ) di splays on the phone when you rece ive a new picture message.

Messages 82 Outbox This message box stores me ssages that you sent. When you enter this menu, the list of messages in the Outbox displays with the re cipients’ phone numbers or names, if availa ble in yo ur Phoneboo k. 1. In Idle mode , press Menu ➔ Messages and press th e Select soft key or the key to enter the menu.
83 V oice Mail This menu prov ides you with a way of accessing y our voic e mailbox , if prov ided by your network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages and pres s the Select soft key or the key to enter the m enu. 2. Highlight V oice mail and pre ss t he Call soft key .
Messages 84 Picture messag e Use the following options to set Send and Receiv e settings for Picture messages. Send Settings • Deliv er y report : when this op tion is enabled, the netwo rk inform s you w hether or not your message was delivered.
85 Memo r y Status Y ou can vie w the am ount of the all ocated memo r y and th e memo ry a vaila ble for p icture messages. The displa y shows the to tal spac e inc l uding the used and free space.
Messages 86 Star ting yo ur Instant M essaging 1. In Idle mode , press Menu ➔ IM and press the Select soft key or the key to enter the menu. 2. Highlight the messenger servic e to which you have previousl y subscribed to by usin g the Up or Down Navigation key and press the Select soft key o r the k ey .
87 Section 9: Changing Y our Settings This section explains the sou nd and phone settings for your phone. It inc ludes such sett ings as: display , security , and memory memor y settings a ssociated with your phone.
Changing Y our Settings 88 Ring tone This menu allows you to select a ring melody . 1. Highlight Ring tone and press the key . 2. Use the Up or Down key to highlight a ring tone or press the Left or Right key to se lect a fi le from eith er the Def ault melodie s , V oice list, Sounds, or Music folders.
89 Message tone This menu allows you to set u p the ringer for incoming mess ages. Y ou can set the T one, Alert type, a nd Repeti tion. 1. Highlight the To n e field and use the key t o display the op tions. Se lect Message tone 1, Message tone 2, Message tone 3, or Message tone 4, and press the Select soft key .

91 W allpaper This menu allows you to change the backgro und image to be displayed in Idle mode. 1. Highlight the W allpaper option and press the k ey to open the follo wing options: • Browse W allpapers : allo ws y ou to dow nload ad dition al w allpap ers fr om t -zones.
Changing Y our Settings 92 T o chan ge the color of the font: 1. Highlight the Font color option and press the Selec t soft key or the key . 2. Use the Left or Rig ht key t o select eit her Basic (black), Rain bow , Monochrome or Gradation .
93 For example, if you set On for 30 sec and Dim for 15 sec , after 30 seconds th e backlight on the key s would t urn off and 15 seconds later the displ ay light would turn off. 1. Press the Left or Right Navigation keys to change each field’ s settings.

95 USB m ode This menu selects the meth od of communi cation for t he US B port, th e options inc lude: •M o d e m : al lows you to us e the p hone as a wi rel ess modem f or communica tio n between a computer and t he In ternet .
Changing Y our Settings 96 Loc k applica tion With this fea ture you can lock yo ur applications which prov ide acce ss to information su ch as ca ll records, phonebook, messages, ima ges, and sounds. Once you lock the contents, you mu st enter the phone’ s password to access the associated menus .
97 Chang e PIN code This feature allows you to change your curren t PIN, pr ovided th at the Check PI N code feature is ena bled. Y ou must enter t he current PIN be fore you can specify a new one. Once you ent er a new PIN, y ou are asked to confirm the PIN numbe r by re-entering it.
