Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes how to start us ing y our ph one by activating your phone, inserting your SIM ca rd and battery , and naviga ting from the Home screen .

Getting Started 7 Char gi ng a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-io n batter y . Use the travel adapter to charge the batter y , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before using your phone for the first time.

Understanding Y our Phone 23 Loc king the Phon e Y ou can protect your phone using th e Device Lo ck feature. Once the fea ture is enabled, your phone is automati cally locked after the specified peri od of inactivity . Note: Even if the phone is locked, you are able to receive calls.
24 Ena bling the SI M PIN When SIM PIN is enabled, you m ust enter you r PIN supplied with your phone each time you turn the phone on or insert the current SIM card into anot her device. Consequently , any person who does not have your PIN cannot use your phone without your approval.

30 Section 3: Sync hronization This section descri bes Using Microsoft ® ActiveSync ® , you can synchronize data on your deskto p computer with the data on your phone. Synchronization comp ares the data on your phone with your desktop computer a nd updates both your phone and computer with the l atest data .
Synchronization 3 1 your phone. Y ou will notice that your info rmation was copied to the phone. Customizing Connection Settings T o establish a connect ion bet ween your com puter and the phone, you must enabl e the connectio ns you want to use in the ActiveSync program.
32 Connec ting via Bluetooth 1. On the Home screen , select Start ➔ ActiveSync and pre ss the key . 2. Press the Menu soft key and select Connect via Bluetooth . 3. Press the Ye s soft key , when you are connecting to a computer via Bluet ooth for the first ti me.
Synchronization 3 3 Once the sy nchronizatio n is completed, the phone stays connected to the computer . If an y change is made, Microsoft ActiveSync automatically begins synchronization. T o begin synchronization, press the Sync soft key in Mic rosoft ActiveS ync on your phone.

Synchronization 3 5 W indows Mobile De vice Center 6 for W indows Vi s ta The Microsoft Windows Mobile Dev ice Cen ter enables you to set up new partnerships, synchroniz e content an d manage music, pictures and video with Windows Mobile po wered devices (Windows Mobile 2003 or later) .
36 Section 4: Call Functions This section explains all of the ca ll functions provided by y our phone. T ur ning the Phone Functions On and Off Y ou can choose to turn off the phone functions a nd just use the PDA functions at any time and th en turn it back on when you want.
Call Functions 37 2. Press to make a call. When a cal l is connected, the ca ll duratio n displays. During a call, you c an use several call options. T o adjust the earp iece volu me during a c all, press Up or Down volume key s to increase or decrease the volum e level.
38 Making an I nter nationa l Call 1. Press and hold unt il the + sign displays or press the . The + replaces the intern ational access code. 2. Enter the full phone number you want to dial. It inc ludes the country code, t he area code (without the leading zero), and the phone number .

40 – Call History : opens the c all history list. Call-related f eatures Chec king your v oicemail The first speed dial loca tion is a ssigned to your voicemail box by default. When you insert your SIM card into the phone, it automati cally detects a nd sets as default the voicemail ce nter number of your mobile service provider .
Call Functions 41 Viewing call time rs In Call History , you can view the duration of yo ur calls. This option is convenient for es timating your usage.
42 • Channels : This option allows you to set the cell broadcast (CB) message receipt and set up broadcast c hannels from which you want to receive CB messages. Note: Not all networks support this option. – Enable channe ls : Select to ena ble the receipt o f CB messages.
Call Functions 43 Note: This menu is available only when your SIM card supports Ser vice Dialing Numbers. V oice Command Voice Command TM transforms your device into y our own virtual personal assist .
44 – Messaging – Phone – Start Men u – Status Video Shar e The Video Share features allows you to pla ce a call and share li ve or recorded video whil e on the call. Y ou can initia te or receive video by using the following steps. Note: Before using Video Share, make sure you turn off Wi-Fi if it has been enabled.

46 Section 5: Menu Naviga tion This section explains th e menu na vigation for yo ur phone. Some menu opti ons are contro lled by the S IM provided by your service provider . Menu Na vigation Menus and sub-menus can be ac cessed by scrolling through them using t he Naviga tion key or by using the shortcut keys.
Menu Navigation 47 Using Sho r tcut s Numbers and letters ca n be used to access menu items, such as menus, sub-menus, and options quickly . FN K ey Settings Setting up FN Key Sett ings is another way to access applications from the Home screen without navigating through the main menu icons and sub menus.
48 Section 6: Or ganizer The Organizer has many tools to assist you in daily activ ities. Alar ms Y ou can use the alarm clock to set a wake-up alarm or set a n alarm to remind you of an appointment. T o open Alar ms: 䊳 On the Home screen , select Start ➔ More ➔ Organizer ➔ Alarms and press th e key .

50 Search Y our phone pro vides a search program, Search , to allow you to search for data or media files in your phone with ea se and quickly access them. 1. On the Home screen, p ress the Start ➔ More ➔ Organizer ➔ Search . 2. Enter the first few le tters of the item na me in the Search field and select an item type i n the Category field.

52 Tip Calculator With this feature, you can use th e phone to c alculate the amount of money lef t as a ti p based on parameters such as: total bill amount, tip percentage, and numbe r of members in your party . 1. On the Home screen , select Start ➔ More ➔ Organizer ➔ Tip Calculator and press the key .

54 Section 7: Contacts & Calendar Contacts maintains a list of your friends a nd colleagues so that you can easily find the informatio n you are look ing for , whether you are at hom e or on the road . The calendar fea ture allo ws you to view the Month, Week, and Day layout vi ews.
