Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring yo ur hardware, activati ng your ser vice, and then setting up your voic e mail.
5 4. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SI M card socket until the c ard locks into place. Ma ke sure that the card’ s gold contacts fac e into the phone and that the upper -le ft angled corner of the c ard is positioned as shown. Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card.

Replace the batter y: • (1) Slide t he batter y back in to the compartment so that the tabs on the en d align wit h the slots a t the bottom of the phone. • (2) Pr ess the battery do wn un t il it clicks into pla ce. 6. Reinstall the battery cover by sliding it back onto the pho ne until you here it securely click.
7 Char ging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-io n battery. A wall charger , whic h is used for charging the battery , is included with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask yo ur local Samsung dealer for further details.

9 Setting Up Y our V oice Mail For new users, follow the instructio ns below to set up voice mail: 1. In Idle mode, press and hold the key on the keypad. Y ou may be prompted to enter a password. 2. Follow the tutorial to crea te a pa ssword, a greeting, and your name.

Understanding Y our Phone 14 Display Layout Y our display screen provides a wealth of information about the phone’ s stat us and options. The display has 3 areas: Icons This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on your phone ’ s display screen: Displays the received signal stre ngth.

17 Brightness After you set the bac klight duration, set the brightness levels. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight Display settings and press the Select soft key or t he key . 3. Highlight Backlight and press the Select soft key or the key .
Call Functions 18 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to ma ke or answer a ca ll. It also explain s the features and functio nality associated with making or answering a call. For more informatio n on Ringtones see see “Ring tone” on page 83.
19 Re dialing the Last Numb er The phone stores t he numbers of the calls you’v e dialed, received, or missed if the caller is ident ified. T o reca ll any of these numbers: 1. If you typed characters on the display , press the key to return to Idle mod e.
Call Functions 20 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, use th e Volume keys on t he left side of the phon e, to adjust the earpiece vo lume. 䊳 Press the key to increase the volume le vel and the ke y to decrease the lev el. In Idle mode, you can also a djust the ring volume usi ng these keys.
21 The following Call Record options are availa ble: All calls This menu lets you view the 60 most recent calls y ou received , dialed, and missed. The name or number , if already stored in your Phonebo ok, displays with the number of occurrences for each number .
Call Functions 22 •D e l e t e : Allows you to delete the selecte d number or delete all call records. • Add to block list : adds the sele cted contact to blo ck (call) list. Y ou can press the key a t any time to exit the Missed Call feature. Incomi ng cal ls This menu lets you view the 30 most recent call s you received.
23 Call time This menu lets you view the time log for calls both ma de and received. Note: The actual time invoiced by T -Mobile may differ from times displayed on your phone due to network features and ser vice plan. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Call records ➔ Call time and press the Select soft key or the key .
Call Functions 24 Soft Keys The roles of the soft keys va ry depending on the function you are currently using. The labels on the bot tom line of the display just above each key indicate thei r current role. Selecting Options T o view the various functions and options avai lable, you must select the one you want by: 1.
25 Options During a Ca ll Y our phone provides a number of control functions that ar e av ailable for use during a call. Switching off the Micr ophone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily s witch your phone’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you.
Call Functions 26 When you have both an active call and a call on hold, you may switch betw een the two calls by pl acing the current held call to active and then placing the other on hold . T o switch between the t wo calls: 1. Press the Opti ons soft key, select Swap .
27 For further details about the Phonebook fea ture, see “Finding a Phonebook Entry” on page 39. Call Waiting Y ou can answer an incoming call while yo u have a call in progress, if this se rvice is supported by the network and you must have previously set the Call waiting option to Activate .

29 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable m enus associated with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’s range of functions to your needs using me nus and sub-menus.
Menu Navigation 30 Using Shortcuts The menu items, such as menus, sub-men us, and options, are numbere d and can be accessed quickly by using their shortcut numbers. For the main menus, you can access any one of them by pressing the number keys (1 to 0 or * and #) corresponding to their location on the sc reen.
31 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select the desired text input mode wh en entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive tex t entr y system to reduce the number o f key strokes associ ated with entering text.
Entering T ext 32 1. T o change the text input mode, press the Right soft key . A text mode indica tor screen displays with the following options: • T9 (English) • ABC mode • Number • Symbol 2. Highlight the text mode you desire and press the Select soft key or the key .
33 The word that you are typing displays on the screen. It may change with each consecutiv e ke y that you press. 2. Enter the whole word b efore editing or deletin g the keystrokes.
Entering T ext 34 Using ABC Mode T o use ABC mode, use the 2 to 9 keys to enter your text. 1. Press the key labeled with the let ter you want: • Once for t he first lette r , twice fo r the second le tter , and so on Using Number Mode The Number mode enables you to en ter numbers into a text message.
35 Ke y s By default, the first lett er of an entry is capitalize d a nd all consecut ive letters are kept in lowercase (unless you press the Shift key). After entering a charac ter , the cursor au tomatically advances to the next s pace after two seconds or when you enter a character on a different key .
Understanding Y our Phonebook 36 Section 6: Understanding Y our Phonebook This section explains how to use and manage your Phonebook. Y ou can sa ve phone numbers to your phone’ s memory on to your SIM card. Using Contacts List Use the following procedures to st ore a new contact to your Phone.

In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight the Add new contact option and press the Select soft key or the key.
39 Finding a Phonebook Entr y Y ou can store phone num bers and their corresponding names onto either your SIM card or phone’ s built-in memor y . They are physically separate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 40 • Copy to Phone/SIM card : allows you t o copy the sele cted contact en try or all contact entries t o the Phone or SI M card. Depends on where th e entr y was origi nally crea ted. • Select language : allows you to s elect between En glish, Fr ançais, and Español.
41 5. Highlight the Picture ID field and press the key t o create a Picture ID for this new caller group. Selec t from one of the fol lowing options: • Downloaded images : displays a list of down loaded images fr om which to select as a Caller ID. •I c o n s : display s a list of pred efined Ca ller ID icons .

43 Memor y Status Y ou can check how many names and num bers are stored in the Phonebook, in bot h SIM card and the phone memory. Y ou can also see the ca pacity of both memories. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook and press th e Select soft key or the key.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 44 Block list The Block list menu allows you to add or remove contac ts from the blocked list of callers. Creating a Block list 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Scroll to th e Block list option and press the Select soft key or the key .
45 View contacts This option allows you to view all the contacts stored on t he Phone, SIM, or the Phone and SIM. Default saving The Default Sa ving option allows you to c hoose where your contacts are saved. The f ollowing options are available: • Phone : new phonebook contacts are saved to y our phone.

Own Number This function is a memory aid, whic h you can use to check your own ph one number if you need to do so.
47 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook and press th e Select soft key or the key. 2. Select the FDN list option and press the Select soft key or the key . The FDN list displays. 3. Press the Option s soft key , select the New FDN contact option and press the Select soft key or the key .
Messages 48 Section 7: Messages This section describe s how to send or receive different types of m e ssages. It also ex plains the features a nd functionality associated with messa ging.
49 There are three View tabs that display icons: Y ou can search through missed call s or unviewed messages by using the Right and Left navigation keys to select the associated message tab, and then press the Vie w or Connect soft key .

The following option s are available: • Insert from : allows you to insert from the T ext templ ate, Phonebook, or Bookmarks. The T ext messages t emplate al lows you to apply one of the pre set message tem plates to the text.
51 Picture Messages This menu allows you to use the Mu ltime dia Message Service (MMS). Picture Messaging i s a messaging ser vice that prov ides delivery of personal multimedia m essages from phone to phone or from phone to email.

The following op tions display: • Reply via : allows you to send a reply to th e sender by sending a T ext message, Picture messag e, or Voice note.
Messages 56 The following op tions display: • Reply via : allows you to send a rep ly to the sender by sending a Picture message, T ext message, or Voice note. • Reply all via : allows you to send a rep ly to the sender by sending a Send picture or Voice notes.
57 • Reply all via : all ows you to se nd a repl y to the se nder by s ending a Voic e note or P icture message. • Call back : allows you to call the s ender back. •F o r w a r d : allows yo u to forwar d the message to another nu mber . • Delete : allows you delete the sel ected or al l voice note s saved.
Messages 58 The following op tions display: •V i e w : allows you to view the co ntents of t he selected messa ge. •D e l e t e : allows you to del ete the se lected message or all messages. •L i s t b y : allows you to sort message s by Read/Unread, Date , Name, T ype, Size, or Subject.
59 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages and press the Select soft key or the key. 2. Highlight the Drafts option and pres s the Select soft key or the key. Note: Scroll between Inbox , Outbox , and Drafts by pressing the Left or Right Navigation keys.
Messages 60 Press and hold the key in Idle mode to connect to voice mail. Note: Voice mail is a network feature. Please contact T -Mobile’ s customer service for further details. Important!: Before using the Voice Mail feature, you must enter the voice server number obtained from T -Mobile customer ser vice in the Voice server number field.
61 Send Settings • Delivery report : when this option is enabled, th e network informs you whether or not your message was del ivered. • Read reply : when this option is enable d, your phone sends a request for a reply along with your mes sa ge to the recipient.
Messages 62 1. Select a mess age box to clear . -Or - Select the All option to delet e all of your messages . 2. Press the key to place or rem ove a check mark. 3. Press the Delete soft key to delete t he marked objects. 4. After you receive the Delete? confirmation, press the Ye s soft key or press the No soft key .
63 Instant Messaging (IM) Instant Messaging (IM) is a way of sending short, simple me ssages that are delivered imme dia tely to users online a t that moment. Before using this feature, you need to subscribe to a messenger se r vice. For further detail s, contact your service provider .
Messages 64 Using the Instant M essenger Options Use the following procedure to ac cess the Instant Messenger options. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ IM and press the Select soft key or th e key . 2. Highlight the messenger serv ice to which you have prev iously subscribed and press the Select soft key .
65 Section 8: t-zones This section outlines the t-zones service on your phone. F or more information, contact T -Mobile. t-zones Y our phone is equipped with a WAP (W ireless A pplicatio n Protocol) browser whic h provides you wireless access and navigation to the Web using your phone.
t-zones 66 • Lower -case character mode (a) : allows you to enter lower -case English characters. Note: Y ou can enter symbols in upper -case or lower-case character mode by pressing the key. • Symbol mode : allows you to enter symbols, such as punctuation marks.
67 Enter URL This menu allows you to manually enter the URL address of a web site th at you wish to access . Note: For further details about how to enter characters, see “Entering T ext” on page 31. Bookmarks This menu stores up to 15 URL addresses.
t-zones 68 Bro wser Se ttings Various settings are available when you are using the t-zones browse r to navigate the wireless web. Clear Cac he Y ou can clear the information stored i n the cache, which i s the phone’ s temporary memory that stores the m ost recently accessed Web pages.
69 Section 9: Fun & Apps This section outlines the various appli cations tha t are avai lable on your phone . Files Files allows you to manage your sounds, images , and memory status in one convenient location. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps and pr ess the Select soft key or the key .
Fun & Apps 70 • Set as : allows you to set the soun d as your ring tone, a Individual ringtone, or an alarm tone. • Delete : allows you to delete the sele cted sound or multiple sounds. • Rename : allows you to change the name of the sound. • Lock : allows you to lock the sound to protect it from deletion.
71 Downloaded images This menu allows you to access your downloaded images. Scroll to the image you want to view . By pressing the Options soft key yo u can access the follo wing options: • Download new : opens your web browser where you can download new images.
Fun & Apps 72 Browse Ga mes Y ou can download more games from the T -Mobile webs ite by using the Browse Gam es option. 1. Highlight the Browse Games option and press the Connect soft key or the key. Note: When downloading games, charges may apply.
73 Alarm This feature allows you to: • Set up to 3 alarms to ring at specified times. • Set the phone to switch on automatically and ring the alarm even if the phone is switched off. The following opti ons are available: – Alarm 1 : set the day , time, and tone for this alarm.
Fun & Apps 74 Calendar With the Calend ar feature, you can: • Consult the calendar by month, week, or day . • Set schedules and note an niversaries • Make a tasks list. • Write memos to keep track of your sche dule. • Set an alarm to act as a reminder , if necessary .
75 Week view When you sel ect this option, the ca le ndar displays the selected week with today’ s date and time highl ighted. The following options are avai lable when you press the Options soft key: – Vie w m od e : takes you to the Day view or Month view of the s elected day .
Fun & Apps 76 Anniversar y This option allows you to record Anniversaries in y our calendar . Y o u can al so set an alarm to remind you of important anniversaries. 1. Highlight the Anniversar y option and press the Select soft key or the key . 2.
77 Missed alar m events Y ou can check on all of th e events that you have set an alarm on . 1. Highlight the Missed alarm events option and press the Select soft key or the ke y . 2. T o view an event information, highli ght an event and press t he key.

Highlight the item and press Options ➔ Mark as done , then press the Select soft key or the key . The status checkbox on the right, next to the T ask item di splays a check mark.
79 3. Use the Down Navigation ke y to highlight Ti p(% ) percentage. 15 is the default value but this can b e changed. 4. The T ip($) field v alue is calculated ac cording to the values entered. 5. Use the Down Navigati on key to move to the # paying field to change the number of peop le co ntributing to the tip amount .
Fun & Apps 80 Da ta to Syn c This feature allows you to synchronize yo ur Contacts, Calendar events , and T ask list with yo ur T -Mobile account on the network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Fun & Apps ➔ Organizer ➔ Synchronization and press the Select soft ke y or the key .

Changing Y our Settings 84 Aler t type This menu allows you to specify ho w you are informed of incoming calls. Use the Right or Left key to sele ct a Ring tone type. The following opt ions are available: – Melody : the phone rings u sing the ring melody selected in the Ring tone menu.
85 Extra tones Y ou can customize additi onal tones for the phone. 1. T o turn a given tone on, p ress the key . A check mark displays in front of the option. Press the Save soft key to save the setting. 2. T o turn a given tone off, press th e key. The check mark no longer displays in fron t of the option.
Changing Y our Settings 86 Info display This menu allows you to se t text st yle (Outline, Shadow , or Normal) and text color (White, Y ellow, Blue , Green, Red, or Black). 1. Press the Left or Right Navigation key to change the settings. 2. Press the Save soft key to apply your changes, or the Cancel soft key to cancel.
87 Greeting mess a ge In this menu you enter the text wh ich displays on the main screen when the phone powers on. Backligh t A backlight illumi nates the internal display and the keypad.
Changing Y our Settings 88 Contrast Y ou can adjust the contrast value on the Main LCD and the Front LCD to make it easier to see them under different lighting conditions.
89 T o change your time and date settings: 1. Use the Up or Down Navigation ke y to select th e option you wish to chang e. 2. To s e t Time or Date , use the Left or Right Navigation key to posit ion the cursor over the nu mber you wish to change. 3.
Changing Y our Settings 90 Lock P hone When the Lock pho ne feature is enabled, the phone is locked and you must en ter the 4- to 8-digit phone password each time the phone is switched on. T o change the phone password , refer to the next section. Once you ente r the co rrect password, you can use the phone until you switch it off.
91 Check PIN Code When the Check PI N code feature is enabled , you must enter your PIN each tim e you switch on the phone. Consequently , any person who does not have your PIN cannot use your phone with out your approval. Note: Before enabling or disabling the PIN Check feature, you must enter your PIN.
Changing Y our Settings 92 Reset From this menu you can rese t your phone and sound setti ngs to the defa ult settings. The following opt ions are available: – All : Phone, Display , and Sound settings return to de fault values. – Sound settings : only sound settings re turn to default values.
93 Answ er Options The Answer Options menu allows you to select how your phone answers incoming calls. Use the Up or Down Navigation key to h ighl ight your selection. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Call settings and press the Select soft key or th e key .
Changing Y our Settings 94 Call Forw arding This network service enables incoming calls re -route to a secondary number that you specify . Example: Y ou may wish to forward your business calls to a colleague while you are on holiday . T o set your call diverting options: 1.
95 Tip: T o enter an interna tional code, press and hold the key until the + sign displays. 7. T o deactivate call div erting, select Deactivate by using the Left or Right Navigation key . 8. When you sel ect If no repl y in step 2, select the lengt h of time the network waits for before fo rwa rding a call.

97 Data to Sync This feature allows you to sync hronize your Contacts, Calendar ev ents, and T a sk list with your T -Mobile account on the network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Synchr onization and press the Select soft key or the key .
