Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your pho ne by first configuring your hardw are, activatin g your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding in ternal compartments.
2 Important! The plug-in SIM c ard information and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratching or bending, so be careful when handling, ins erting, or removing the card. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. Carefully s lide the SIM card into the SIM c ard socket (as shown) unt il the card lock s into place .
Getting Started 3 Note: Y our phone has been test ed to support up to a 64GB memory card . Installing the Memor y Car d Push the microSD card into the slot until it clicks (as shown). • Make sure th e microSD’s gol d contact pi ns face do wnward and the card is secur ely inserted .
4 2. Press along the e dge of the back cover (3) until you have a secure seal. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installe d before switching on the phone. Charging a Batter y Y our device is powered by a re chargeable Li-ion battery . The Tr avel Charger that is used to charge the battery , is included with your device.
Getting Started 5 1. Plug the flat end of the T ravel Charger into the Power/ Accessory Int erface connector an d the other end into a standard AC wall outlet. 2. When charging is finished, remove the f lat end from the interface connecto r jack on the phone.
6 Y ou can also choose to display a percentage value . Having a percentage value on-screen ca n provide a better idea of the remaining charge on th e battery. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ My device ➔ Display ➔ Display battery percentage .
Getting Started 7 Configuring your Phone When you first turn on your phone, you will nee d to set up a few things. 1. The Welc om e! screen displays. T he default language for your phone is English. If you would like to select another language, tap English and scroll up or down to select one of the listed languag es.

At the Dropbo x screen, tap Creat e a new account if you don’t have one yet or tap Sign i n if you have already set up y our Dropbox account.
Getting Started 9 Creating a New Google Account In order to utilize your device to the fullest extent, you will need to create a Google™ Account when y ou first use your device. With a Google Accoun t, Google applications will always be in sync between your phone and computer .

Google Search Bar The Google Search Bar provi des you an on-screen Internet search engine powered by Google ™.
Understanding Y our Phone 25 Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’ s range of functions to fit your needs using both menus and widgets. Menus, sub -menus, and features can be accessed by sc rolling through the available on-screen menus. Y our phone originally has three home screens but you can expand up to sev en home screens.
26 Tilt T o activate the tilt feature, press and hold two points on th e screen then tilt the devic e back and forth to reduce or enlarge the screen. Use tilt to: • Reduce or enlarge the scr een in the Gallery or Browser . Tu r n ov e r Turn your phone over so that the screen faces downward.

28 Home Screen Ov er view The main home screen is the starti ng point for many applications and functi ons, and it allows you to add items like application icons, shortcuts, fol ders, or Google widget s to give you instant access to information and applications.

Navig ating Using Sub-Men us Sub-menus are available when you are at any Home sc reen or have selected a feature or applic ation such as Phone, Contacts, Messaging, or Internet.
30 – or – Ta p to go to Google Search. – or – T ap to delete the record of all recently used applications. Using the Multi W indow This feature allows you to run multiple applications on the current screen at the same time.
Understanding Y our Phone 31 Note: This is a quick way to get the ta b out of the way if you can’t get to a button or option be hind it. T o relocate the Multi window apps panel: 1. Activate the Multi window feature. 2. T ap the tab to display the apps panel (containing the scrollable apps).
32 Customizing the Multi Window apps The applications found within the ap ps panel of the Multi window can be organized by ei ther being rearranged or removed. T o rearrange the Multi window applications: 1. Activate the Multi window fe ature. 2. T ap the tab to dis play the apps pa nel (containing the scrollable ap ps).

34 T o increase the size of a de sired application window: 1. With the two application s shown in a split screen, locate the Border bar i ndicating the edge of th e app window . 2. In a single motion , touch and h old the Border bar the n drag it to resize the desired window .

A folder is displayed in the original place of the application icon with the application icon displayed on top of it.
38 Adding and Deleting Home Screens Y ou can add and delete Ho me screens. Y ou can have up to seven Home screens. T o add a new Home screen: 1. Press to activate the main Home screen. 2. Press and tap Edit page . 3. T ap the Home screen that c ontains .

40 Notification Bar The Notification Bar includ es a pull-down list to show information about p rocesses that are running, recent notifications, and alerts. T o display the Status indicator: On the Home screen, touch and hold t he Notification Bar until the pull-down displays, then drag down vertically .
Understanding Y our Phone 41 Accessing Additional P anel Functions In addition to notifications, the Notification panel also pro vides quick and ready access to separa te device functions. Thes e can be quickly activated or deact ivated by toggling them on or off.
42 Mounting the SD Card T o store additional photos, music, videos, and other applications, you mus t mount (install) the SD card prior to use . Mounting the SD c ard establishes a USB con nection with your computer . 1. Insert the SD card into the external, SD card slot.
Call Functi ons 4 3 Section 3: Call Func tions This section describes how to ma ke or answer a call. It also includes the fe atures and functi o nality associated with making or answering a call. For more information, r efer to “Sound Settings” on p age 1 18.
44 4. Select Add wait to add a wait. A wait will pause the calling sequence until you en ter a number or press a key . 5. Ta p to make the ca ll. For more information, refer to “Adding Pauses to Conta ct Numbers” on page 61. Cor recting an Enter ed Number Use the following steps t o correct a mis-typed entry when dialing.
Call Functi ons 4 5 Making an Emer gency Call with a SIM car d 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Enter the emergency number (e x: 91 1) and then tap . 3. Complete your call. During this type of call, you will h ave access to the Speaker mode, Keyp ad, and End Call features.
46 Ans wering a Call When a call is received the phone rings and displays the caller’s phone number , or name if stored in the Address Book. 1. At the incomin g call screen: • T ouc h and drag in any direction to answer the call. • T ouc h and drag in any direction to reject the call and send it t o your voicemail.
Call Functi ons 4 7 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Applica tion menus, you have the option to acc ess the Dialer and in itiate a call by tapping ➔ Keypad . From the Dialer and t he Contacts screen, the following tabs are located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on -screen keypad.
48 2. Swipe the desired missed call to the right to call. – or – Swipe the desired missed call to the left to message. Sa ving a R ecent Call to your Address Book 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Logs . A list of rece nt calls is displa yed. 2. T ap the call you want to save to your Address Book.

50 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, to adjust the earpiece volume, use the Vo l u m e keys on the left side of the phone. Press the Up volume key to incre ase the volume level and press t he Down volume key to decreas e the volume level.
Call Functi ons 5 1 Personalizing the Call Sound S etting During a call it may be necessary to adju st the sound of the incoming call by selecting an audio equalizer setting for the current call . 1. From the call screen, tap . 2. Confirm the option is enabled .
52 T o end a s pecific call 1. Ta p Swap until the call you want to end appears in a green box. 2. Ta p to end the specific call. 3. T ap to end the remaining call. T o answer a call wh ile you hav e a call in prog ress 1. T ap and slide to the right to answer another call.

Entering T ext 55 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characte rs into your phone. This section also describes the predi cti ve text entry system that reduces the amount of key stroke s associated with entering text.
56 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad la yout keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWER TY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear . When in Sym mode, the Abc / ABC / abc button will appea r .

60 Section 5: Contacts and Y our Addr ess Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in you r Address Book. Address Book entries can be sorted by name, ent ry , or group. Adding a New Contact Use the following pro cedure to add a new contact to your Address Book.
Contacts and Y our Address Book 61 T ap to add another Phone number field or t ap to delete a field. 7. T ap any of the following fields that you want to add to your new contact: • Groups : assign the c ontact to Not assigned, ICE - emergency contacts, Co -workers, Famil y , or Friends .
62 2. Press and hold th e Contact that you want to edit. 3. Ta p Edit . 4. T ap any of the fields to add, change , or delete information. 5. Ta p Save to save the edited informat ion.

64 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts . 2. T ap a contact name (t he name you want to join to another entry). Note : typically this is the same contact with a dif ferent name or acc ount information. 3. Press ➔ Join contact . The contact list is dis played.

If t hey call while bein g on the reject list, the call will be s ent directly to voice mail. • Print cont act info : allows y ou to prin t the cont act’s namecard to a Samsung print er using Wi-Fi.
68 8. Ta p Save to save the new Group catego ry . Editing a Caller Group T o edit a Group entry , there must be at least one member as part of the selected group. 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts ➔ Groups . 2. T ap a group entry . 3. Press ➔ Edit .

The phone displays a list of your current contacts. 2. T ap the contacts to place a che ckmark adjacent to thos e entries you wish to delete.
Multimedia 71 Section 6: Multime dia This section explains how to use the multimedia features of your phone, including Samsung Hub, Samsung Link, Music, Video, Play Movies, Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder .
72 Tip: In some cases it might be necessary to sign in to your Samsung account via the applicat ion. Press and then select Sign in. Note: Y our Samsung Hub account is managed by th e Samsung account application. This application manages you r user profile information.

Multimedia 87 Camera and Camcor der Settings This section describes the diff erent settings that you can configure on your camera. Not all of the following options are available in both still camera and video camera modes. The available options vary by mode.
88 Settings : • GPS tag : Attach a GPS l ocation tag to the pho to. T o improve GPS signals, avoid shooting in locat ions where the signa l may be obstruc ted, such a s between b uildings or i n low-lyi ng areas, or in poor weathe r conditions. Y our location may appear on your photos when you upload t hem to the I nternet.
